We as anime fans have to stay strong and stay vigilant when something really bad happens. Because I fear someday it will. We need to push back against these views that attack our enjoyment of all kinds of anime not just ones like gushing that claim liking something like it will have a negative effect in the real world. You've said nobody doesn't hate pdf files, but I don't until they do something to kids. I think it is wrong to demonize them to the point our society does and it would be much more helpful to harshly punish and shun the ones acting on their urges while keeping the way to therapy or other forms of prevention completely open and easily accessible for the rest. While I can't be sure I think that it is the same concept as not all men who are unable to find any girlfriend assaulting someone that not all pdf files are going to assault children because they have to know that it is wrong and will harm their victim. I for example would have rather killed myself when I was unable to form any meaningful connection to women than to assault one in my younger days. In the same vein I think that the whole loli discussion is misguided as I have not seen any evidence that it increases crimes against children. The only argument I've heard is a moral one which I dislike as moral guidelines evolved to something like women who are assaulted to be at fault in mainly muslim countries. I consider it the same as the debate about violent video games making children more violent that has been brought up again and again over the years equally unsupported by studies proving any of it, even some studies suggesting that it has no effect. On the other side we have at least some studies relating the banning of p*rn to an increase in assault, so I'm going to assume that if the notion that pdf files are consuming loli p*rn is true it would have the same effect on them unless there is a study to prove me wrong.

Makes me glad that the anime community is standing up for itself in the west despite the deplorable behavior that has come with the influx of tourists of the medium. However it also sucks that bigger content creators aren't even giving this subject the time of day. Asmongold has come close recently, but that's about it.

I dont think anime will survive if it starts to change more for the west, you dont have too look far to see almost every Japanese anime studio say that they only care for their Japanese market. And thats true, its also true people in Japan hate political correctness, so honestly i doubt there are many Japanese anime studios who would even risk losing their main income which is their own martket over trying to go west, especially with all the current stuff happening in the gaming scene with western companies losing millions by antagonizing their own customers and pushing political correctness no one wants.

The fact that Cuties, the Western film gets a pass, while Gushing Over Magical Girls, the anime doesn't tells me that racism and xenophobia has a lot to do with this. Whenever antis criticize anime for its "problematic" content, it always devolves to them saying that Japanese culture itself is problematic. Even in the comments of true crime documentaries covering Japanese crimes, the top comments are dominated by people outright saying that such behavior is "normal" in Japanese culture. Anyone with common sense should be able to clearly recognize this as racism, but sadly, it's becoming increasingly normalized to treat Asian works of fiction a lot more harshly than Western properties.
