Love you Kat but these are not protests, this is not a free speech issue. This is a trespassing, assault harassment and vandalism issue. Protesters march, they say their message and they go home. They don't set up tents to disrupt class, they don't set fires, they don't stop traffic, they don't harass fellow students, civil disobedience is the opposite of what these kids are doing.

At one time it may have been a protest and there may be some protestors exercising their rights currently. But the lot appears to be preventing others from their civil rights. This is where the line is crossed. It would be no different than some protestor blocking my private driveway but doing so on the public street. It’s no longer a protest or a speech issue.

Tyrus obviously understands the situation far better than Kat. She seems to not understand that you can be expelled from a university for things that are acceptable under the First Amendment. It is my protected right to use the N-word on a street corner. On the other hand, if I do that and the university where I am a professor finds out about it, then it is their right to fire me for violating (rather blatantly) their codes of conduct. Freedom of speech does not grant freedom from consequences.

No, kat. Just as you have the right to walk around flailing your arms, that right ends as soon as you start hitting me. You have the right to be armed, but not to shoot me for no reason. Speech is the same. Would you defend someone's right to free speech if they approached an older woman and, lying, told her all of her grandchildren had died, resulting in her dying of a heart attack? That is why free speech doesn't mean say what you want and endangering life. I, too, believe in the 1st Amendment. The right to hold an opinion, speak that opinion. How many things are average people afraid to even say because they've been brainwashed to believe that someone else is _hurt_ by it? I feel the same, my friend, and I have four daughters and 12 grandkids. Three of the daughters got degrees, but all the grandkids are attending or will attend a Vocational School to actually learn something they can work and make a good living at the rest of their lives, unlike idiot university courses, like Gender Studies or trash like that! And no Vocational School Students are asking for Student Loan Payoffs, only universities. I loved going to college, after I got out of the military, in 1972, but it is no longer a place of higher learning, but a place of disgusting lunacy & failure. God Bless you and yours! FJB!

the idea is to send people to trade/tech schools. i've never been to a 4 year univ and I was making 6 figs with 0 debt while everybody was still paying off their degrees. do you know how many people I know with "good degrees", I don't even mean the useless gender ones, that are doing white collar/retail/office jobs? pick the fields in demand and find a way to get there. most colleges now are factories for communist indoctrinatioon

To Kat's point: Free Speech is fundamental but words have meaning. When the protestor's chant 'Free Palestine' that's one thing. However when you specifically target a person or group & demand they be harmed or killed; that's crossing the line like Tyrus said & that deserves Law Enforcement action & civil penalties. There's a limit to being an absolutist, which you then are not. Condemning hateful speech that devolves into threats of harm isn't enough after that line is crossed. The Gov't. isn't compelling the disciplining of hate speech, it's common sense & civil discourse that's doing the compelling.
