Joe Mengler a good MoTer should be able to tell if a vehicle will pass just by talking to the owner and just a brief once over, but Vosa/dvoola have such strict regs-all cars/tests/owners/testers are all linked, the second something fishy happens with a vehicle EVERY vehicle that the guy has ever touched will be scrutinised and they will thrown the book at them. Even the best guy in the business has to be stringent now, the bar is set below half a fuck up, not worth the risk
@@4wdsome444 it must save lives somewhere along the line. I've always thought do the job as if it was your mum's car and make it easy for the next guy because it's probably going to be you. Half arsedness has killed the industry, electrical tape holding sensors together and brake bolts rounded off etc. We could go on all day
he is a highly intelligent man. look at the eyes and how he adapt on whatever challenge he does. And the most funny thing is that he only sees himself as a ordinary bloke from down the road that is just passioned in speed and mechanics. So unaware of his high IQ just wondering about life as it is without any form of ego.
guy the the type of person no one will believe when he says "ive raced in the isle of man TT, ive set a load of world records" because he looks like a regular truck mechanic..
Some fans saw these years ago, but have so much love for the pride Guy has in his work. If only more people in other walks of life had the same, we’d be in a better place! 👍🏼
Never have enough tools , he works with them all day , didn’t see one oil smudge on them , guys like “ wanna see my treasure chest “ opens his tool cab ha ha
@PhreshFunk @Tom sbtv Neither of you do what you say. You're both 12 year olds trying to act the big one, Run a firm? Run your pants you pair a fuckwits. You'd reject freedom if you ever recognised it.
It's about fulfilment. Can you imagine a world where everyone was like Guy (and me) and had a job they enjoyed and embraced in this way? The down side would be, mass unemployment in the entertainment industry and licenced trade. No need for them.
My Father always used to say "Find a Job you Love and you will never work a day in your life." he also used to say "A Job is not complete until you clean up after yourself" I wish more ppl thought this way.
The farm I work on are going to get a couple of their trucks serviced by Guy (hopefully) I would love to go along just to meet him, take a few beers and shake his hand haha
When he says he has 11x10mm spanners, he's like a 12 yr old kid, who once dreamed of a wkd tool box and has the realisation his life is complete. Everything from here is just gravy for Guy, awesome stuff
As a retired mechanic I know where he is coming from, a lot of people just think we grease nipples, they do not realize the the lives of people are in our hands, literally. It is a great source of pride that I never killed anyone.
I love how down to Earth Guy is. He seems like the most honest, passionate, hard working bloke. Not a bad bone in him. He's like the Keeanu Reeves of the truck world.
Good mechanics are a dying breed nowadays it’s all just rip out and replace what the computer tells you to we were taught to fault find then try fix the item and as a last resort replace it. I feel there needs to be training given to the young generation to keep these skills alive or it’ll be like many old skills they will be lost to the sands of time great to see the passion you have for your job guy keep it up
I've got two 1944 dodge 3/4 ton trucks,ex military. I took one to a college where a friend teaches one day to show his new course of Vehicle Technicians. Didn't know wether to laugh or cry.Where do you plug the test lead in? Why do the plug leads go to that round thing? Why are the spark plugs on the top?
Wow if only we all had and took as much pride in our jobs as Guy does the world would be an even better place. Guy is an inspiration with his mindset and I thank him for sharing it with us all. Kettles on if your ever down Devon way bud
Guy breaks multiple world records, rebuilds a Spitfire, 17 times on the TT podium, rides for MotoGP. "What am I good at? M.O.T." Humblest guy in the world. What a legend.
@some random guy i take pride in my workplace (doesnt stop it being a grim place to work at times but a grim building is a grim building) but i can rarely if ever put my hands on every one of my 10mm spanners
I've been watching freds videos and that man was INCREDIBLE. I'm from the states and had never heard of him but if you were two put these two mad men together it would be sensory overload
You can keep the hibrow philosophers give me Guy when on form, the truth of life will out. The young need to listen and I mean listen not just hear the sounds, to Guy talking. At XX mmm years old I can see and hear the passion and dedication to the art in every sentence. The books are good too. Keep being you and swinging spanner’s on your trucks. It is your life and being... I love it. Now think, Guy on a Ted Talk would be mind blowing but its not him is it. Pity as the world would see their is more to life. Getting your hands dirty but getting it going is a skill that makes you feel good at the end of the day. Amacf
I don't know how much they paid you for this, but in America, the pay is low, the hours are long, the investment and the frustration is high, and everyone looks down to you. I haven't had a raise since 2005
mark hunsberger in the uk it’s not like that, not everyone can be a good mechanic so the ones that are will be paid accordingly it’s all about building a reputation. guy is self employed so he doesn’t have to ask for a raise.
I'm completely blown away that Guy Martin has a daytime job that isn't motorcycle racing. I figured that if me, being an American, knew about Guy then he had to be famous and well off to the point where he didn't need a day job. Maybe he is. Maybe he works for fun. But it looks like he loves it, which is rare and he is lucky, and it looks like he does it well. I was also shocked when Guy said he didn't do many things well. He's very humble...maybe too humble. Great stuff!
Testers are keen as mustard nowadays! The old boys used to say get it done when you get back.... not now. Failed mate you’ve got a reflector cracked on the side lol oh that’s fine only spent 3 grand on re building it lol
Doing the work he does, I guarantee there will be a drawer that looks similar but is full of sockets and impact sockets, there’s no way he works without the matching spanner and socket sets.
I get a creamy feeling when people follow "A place for everything and everything in its place", ties right in there with "do it right, do it once" Used to tear my hair out working with people trying to cut a corner and end up doing twice or thrice the work. Get called a nonce every now and then but you can't argue with results, especially if they're given in half the time and no mess left because "clean as you go" saves an arseload of hassle. Safer and just much much easier
I'm a welder and I've listened to radio 4 since I was 7. I know exactly where he's coming from.i also used to drive a scrapyard crane and would be laughed at when it came to break time and someone else would take over and discover what radio channel I had on .small minds .the saying goes the mind is like a parachute it doesn't work if it's not open Guy is a true man of the world
No Guy, you don't have 11 10mm spanners. Everyone knows that 10mm spanners/sockets are known to disappear from a closed, locked toolbox and then appear in the shop bathroom 2 weeks later. You have like fifty 10mm spanners Guy, they are just randomly dispersed around the shop.
my father would love this guy. he was a mechanic. a dam good one and was always proud of a job that was well done. over the years he was lucky enough to have worked on everything from boats to aircraft. at one stage he was working on fire engines and he said their rough as hell on the gear but if they could break it, he could fix it. recon you two would have got on like a house fire.
I talks fast just so he can say everything twice . My favoriter Guy ’Martin moment must be when started ti flirt with a women iwhile they where filmning at pikés peak
