Guy's musical ability is often hidden behind his commercial style vocals and hits. He has tailored it into hits. However, this is a touch of his "other" side - dirty blues. I've seen him with band members off performance do blues 👏👏
I think you're one of the few guys on RU-vid who really really digs Guy Sebastian's runs and vocal style. Wayback 20 years ago most Aussie singers didn't sound like guy there was plenty of hard rock, pop Rock or just pop dance. Guy guy brings to the table R&B soul and gospel vibes with his huge vocal range and insane control over it. I remember being so mesmerised. But not everyone liked it at the time. He is now celebrated as one of Australia's best vocalist and talent.
Great song, great singer. But I still think my favourite cover is the one Bryan Ferry released just after John Lennons death. It doesn’t have the vocal runs etc, but it is a heartfelt tribute and, for me, hits the bullseye.

I love Guy's voice 😍 but if you listen to John Lennon's original or Roxy Music's cover, it's meant to be a much simpler song about an ordinary guy who screwed up and wants forgiveness. I don't think complicated vocal runs are appropriate here.
Yes the "truth" was lost in this performance but to be fair to Guy he would never record a studio version for an album like this. Lennon's version and Bryan Ferry's version were studio versions.....this live performance came across as showboating to some degree (playing to a crowd)......not really with the intent to express a jealous guy's feelings as per the original.
