Whenever I meet a guy like this, I ask him if he’s seen films like Mean Girls or Clueless. Most of the time, he hasn’t, and then says stuff like “it’s not the same thing”. It absolutely is lol. If he’s okay with not having seen Mean Girls, I’m okay with not having seen Indiana Jones.

Back when Star Wars: The Phantom Menace came out, there was this girl in my class that mentioned she hadn't seen any of the Star Wars films. Everyone got on her case and were like, "WHAT!? WHY NOT!?" and she was getting shaken up by how upset everyone was getting at the thought of someone not seeing Star Wars. I was compelled to jump into the conversation. I told everyone to get off her back; there are endless movies and not everyone has seen everything. "She hasn't seen Star Wars. So what?" I then turned to her and said, "They're pretty good movies. Fun action, light comedy at times; it's not heavy sci-fi or anything. Solid films. If you're interested, start with A New Hope and if you like that, watch Empire Strikes Back." Her mood *instantly* changed and she thanked me. She ended up watching the original trilogy and thanked me for introducing her to the movies. She told me she was turned off the movies with how people reacted to her when she said she hadn't seen them; it made her think the films were uber-nerd crap and that she wouldn't like it.

The ending is just right. The fact that they haven't seen all the classics/big stuff either always makes it such a weird thing.

I’m not trying to dismiss how unpleasant this can be but I think it helps to remember most people think they’re being friendly when they do this with people and aren’t actually trying to make you feel bad about not seeing a thing. I find often it’s not an awkward of them wanting you to experience something they think you’ll appreciate.

That's how most of the conversations went after I told people I've never seen The Lion King before. I watched it eventually, and I told everyone that I didn't like it and when I explained my reasons for not liking it, they just accepted it.

Series like Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are actually very hard to escape, it's like they're on tv all the time and they're on multiple streaming services for free. I'm sure some people manage to miss them but still I think almost everybody is going to put them up once. However I feel this happens the most with tv show, like "WHAT? You haven't watched Game of Thrones???" Er... no. It is literally 70 hours long.

I love when people haven't seen/otherwise consumed popular things. I haven't seen a lot of them myself so I either get to watch reactions on twitch/youtube (they're fun to watch, idc what people say) or infodump on my friends giving them no context, which is so funny.

I was this guy until people started doing this to me, but they were shocked I had never seen The Notebook or Over the Hedge or Rush Hour 2. Their reaction made me want to watch those even less, and that’s when I realized I was that person too, except with Citizen Kane or 12 Angry Men or Some Like it Hot.

I relate deeply to Red-Shirted MCT's lack of desire to see something because people are weird about it. Every time someone is weird about me not having seen a given movie (The Matrix is a common one), it gets moved to the bottom of my "To Watch" list. I'm an adult now. I don't need people assigning entertainment to me.
