Pre-orders shouldn’t even “sell out” pre orders are how you judge how much of a product you need to have made by launch day so that everyone who ordered a box gets one. The fact that GW limits their pre orders is actually baffling

I preordered the Ork Stompa Boyz box via my local hobby store, who got screwed over by GW when they didn't actually supply their allocation. To their enormous credit my local has given me the individual kits the box is made up of, which has to be a loss to them, but the fact is that they shouldn't have to.

Unfortunately, you still feed GW practice. I haven't bought originals for such a long time. Anyone I play, enjoy my models and know what they proxy quite easily. I just wish my painting was better ( to help enhance the sculpt)

The only way gw pays any attention at all is if a ton of players just started 3d printing like crazy and all non gw tournaments let you play 3d in an effort to get better performance from gw.

Even the manager at my local store was confused as to why no one showed up. It was just me and him at 12 noon. By 12:20pm or so he was like “ wait a minute I should go check something” and when he came back from the back he said “ah I see why no one showed up. There’s nothing to preorder”

@@Billuhhanks Precisely. The executives - the guys making the decisions - have much of their compensation tied to short-term metrics, and not long-term trends. This is precisely the problem with publicly traded companies. I understand the need to raise money for capital improvements; but my goodness, there needs to be a better way to steer the ship!

On the raising prices it seems atleast that the employees get a raise too. And GW increase the price every year. I work with distributors who dont even tell their sellers beforehand when and by how much the price went up. I just look at my invoice when the product arrives to see that its like 5% more expensive. So for industry standarts its nothing special.

No one wants Kroot for an entire army. I really have no idea what GW was thinking. Even the Cultist mob for Chaos was better thought out than the damn Kroot. It was just an excuse to release an entire new range of them for SOME reason, when so many larger staples of their game are in dire need of a refresh and expansion. I really want to meet the chained up apes that account for their department that makes these decisions, because right now I refuse to think that real people are making these moves. This has to be some chat GPT crap and they are just pulling the slot lever.

@TheLongVigil my game shop still has their kroot box, and I expect it'll sit next to last editions Black Templar box set for a long time. The 40K crowd here is already small, and our handful of tau players definitely don't run tau for the kroot. I've never seen a single kroot model on the table.

@paladinslash4721 Personally I love the alien auxiliaries, but going all-in on JUST Kroot was a mistake. Give us one or two units from each auxiliary race at most, and give us a wider variety. Kroot Carnivores and Hounds, Vespid Stingwings, Tarellian Dog Soldiers, Vorgh Knight-killers, a Nicassar psyker unit, Hrenian skirmishers, the list goes on...

That's the interesting thing. After all the kick in the nuts with price increases, year after year, sometimes twice a year, people keep going back for more. Begging even. All the crap pre-ordering, sold out stock in minutes, etc. and still people line up. 3D printing has been a godsend.

@@roshee5573 Yep. Elegoo Mars 4 9k resin printer currently selling for $330.99. Bottle of resin would set you back $60. So for the price of a single box from GW, you could print a few hundred minis, and still have a printer. Only hassle is painting them all!

A friend of mine is a police officer here in Iceland. He also does a lot of "youth work" that is why he plays 40k and is so often at the local gaming club. Years ago, he came back from a meeting the police had about drugs trade, and told us "Well, it is official! GW models are now more expensive than crack-cocaine!"

Yeah... I came to the same conclusion. Especially since it seems ALOT of people are gearing themselves up for it. I ended up buying 20x of the old noise marines for cheap and just gonna re-base them. Enough to make the core of the army and not expecting any box to make it worth it to offset.

Respectfully, do not do that to yourself, wait until the Christmas afterwards. World Eaters 2022 release with a 2023 Christmas Battleforce was super convenient. Maybe pick up a Combat Patrol when they come in stock, then buy the Christmas Battleforce. They actually make enough for Christmas because they realize that everyone who wanted it bad enough likely bought it as soon as they could.

That was my plan with world eaters. I wanted the army so bad and had mentally committed to buying it. However I could not get the models anywhere. After 6 months of waiting for eightbound to come in stock I gave up. I ended up just building up a generic black legion CSM force, who happen to be painted red and brass... My guess is you'll struggle to get the models you need to make an EC army when they eventually drop.

lol remember the days when you could just walk into a GW as a passerby, see a battleforce (Space orks 1999, Dave Gallagher cover-art in my case, absolute classic) and think "oh that looks cool, maybe I'll give this a go!" instead of having to be 100% fully ingrained in the hobby to the point of having alarms/bots set up to try and secure one for yourself? @@thefloatingcontinent9897 They're heavily bottlenecked by manufacturing. Until they finally build factory 4 it's going to be the same story, so don't expect it to change for a couple of years at least. They just can't make enough to satisfy demand as things stand.

They just choose not to because that would piss off their beloved shareholders in the short term. Wargames Atlantic sells boxes of 20 hard plastic minis made in the US for like 30-40 bucks and they’re a small fry company, GW has no excuse other than they’re lazy and greedy.

I loved reading that people were randomly able to gain access several minutes early and the limited items sold out before 1:00 EST while I fervently refreshed the page, only gained access at the designated time and failed to secure the special edition codex 25 seconds after the official presale beginning.

Not particularly surprising, some things may always happen slightly out of sync. Shouldn´t be an issue though - the idea that it would matter whether you are able to buy one 3 minutes earlier or later is what caused the whole affair. Anything that sells out in less than a day is a mark of shame for the company that made it.

Sitting here in Australia, can confirm these box sets never sell out because they are too bloody expensive. Examples; a single miniature like the new terminator chaplain $80. A box set like the primaris veterans, 5 minis, $105!!!!! FFS!

GW going back to its old ways of the 1 click bundles. they dont WANT to give you a discount with these boxed sets, so they make about 10 for the whole world and when theyre sold out people give in and buy a couple of the kits at full price, instead of the discount.

Ah man I forgot about those one click bundles! The way they tried to push them was embarrassing. I also agree with what you say regarding not actually wanting to give a discount on these boxes. I’m convinced they purposely under stock these boxes and they’re happy to weather the storm of criticism. If they really gave a damn about their fan base, we wouldn’t see price rise after price rise and these battleforce boxes wouldn’t be a limited run.

To many problems, it's more easy produce a short number of boxes and have 100% of profits than produce too much and don't have the resources to fullfil the demand

I don't understand why they don't just exclusively sell these battleboxes physically in their official stores without any online pre order and just limit it for 1 box per person to hinder scalpers. Like this would also pull people to come to your stores again and fix the scalping issue since only people will physically travel that really want the box.

When you control the whole supply chain then you can restrict the supply and raise the prices. Most of these box sets are worth around $50-100 tops. Now with digital sculpting the cost of design has essentially collapsed.

I LOVE their models, they are so detailed and theres so many books and lore to get them hooked on them, but it's disgusting that they are the price they are and even worse is the limited nature of everything! I checked the webpage at NOON the day the nightmare kill team box came out and they were already SOLD OUT, HOW??? My local warhammer store was shipped FOUR and they were gone by 10am! Why and how GW makes so few boxes on a product that I imagine is easily at least 500% markup is beyond me. At this point its going to be much cheaper and less frustrating to invest in a 3D printer!

This is my first edition playing any tabletop wargaming and having GW as a company has been a very negative experience. I will not be going into 11th edition until I see significant improvements. Check out one-page rules you can use any models you already have and the rules are all free. You can get stl files for entire factions cheaper than what these battleforces are.

Here in the US, I went to do the pre-order for the LGS I work at and even being ready right at 11am my time I could not get either one of the boxes or even a single copy of the collector codex. They were gone before the pre-order even went live.

Because it would create more issues. They have 40 odd machines running nearly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can't meet demand as is. So add a MTO and sell 100,000 extra boxes, you then have to find that production capacity. So you don't produce enough of the next thing, to free up production time. Then the same happens again and again, and you can easily end up in a position where all you are making is MTO items and nothing new or restocks

If they were smart they'd have had a production facility in the US long ago to service this side of the Atlantic. Would've paid for itself already. Don't get me started on their failure to keep printing any books past the initial release.

I was in the web store of a retailer. They have 15 boxes of each Battleforce. Sold out within seconds. That was so fast sold out that I could not click and buy.

I missed out on the Veterans box set due to working on Saturdays. A crying shame, but to be expected with how beloved Chaos Marines are. Luckily, my local store manager is a total hero and I was able to reserve one of the copies he's getting for the shelves.

went to GW store to get the limetid edition book and Dread talons. under one minute in puttin in my details the book and dread talon box where removed. got a hold of my local shop they had the dread talon box, normal codex and cards. dread talon box is sold out there now to, but the veterans of war box is stil there.

For me, everything came up on the site and all the cards, dice, books and boxes were right there. And I didn't order anything. $230 for a battleforce is insane... I just couldn't do it. The cards will probably be errata'ed in a month and I can get the codex whenever. I would have bought a box that actually delivered a good value, and I would have bought a special character or two. It has gotten to the point though where it's like investing in precious metals... you really have to look at the size of the outlay versus the return.

Ya honestly I have no words. I waited to 1pm(My time zone when the site updates) either people got on early somehow or something. but I refreshed on 1pm went straight to pre orders and even though the battleforce boxes didn't say they were out of stock I could not get one. Thought maybe it's cause it was glitch.... nope, several refreshing of the page, still didn't say out of stock but any attempt to put into cart failed. I eventually just gave up and bought a codex, the new patrol, then a couple things to make up for not getting the battleforce box. Thanks GW. you never fail to impress. Truly impressive that you still haven't learned you should be making more of these and likely have a second wave as well. But sure, I guess all the people who can't get it, even when they try just have to wait for the actual release of the jump pack lord and new lord sculpt.

it's a very odd business model, like if they're so obsessed with the bottom line and they know they have a dedicated worldwide customer base willing to pay their exorbitant prices, then why not make enough product for them? they're missing out on probably thousands of sales globally when they do this. compare gw with sony, who have failed to meet demand with their last three playstations. they saw that as a huge mistake every time (yet admittedly failed to correct it) but gw are completely silent on the issue. so bizarre

as a 2 week old new member to this hobby. i choose chaos space marines to be my first army i wanted to build and paint, decided way before i know any of these boxes were coming out. so i wasnt biased by these to choose chaos as my first. I later then found out about these new boxes coming out. i was excited. Now i dont want to be apart of this hobby cause this is dumb if stuff is gonna be like this all the time. literally stupid. was aswell go back to playing my life away on wow.... was tryna get off it.

Dont be put off of this great hobby! If you didn’t plan on buying the box set just ignore the politics online and grab yourself a combat patrol if they’re around or just start with some legionnaires 😃 half the fun is building and painting anyway and it takes time.

We used to order things from white dwarf or from the book that came with the game, old style mail in, 3 months later, there they were. No hassle. Now i understand why many people either quit the game or start using other models they personally modified ... hence why I think i have so many players in my campaign, they only need a few minis and if they are going to war, they will plan it out slowly... but then again my campaign has been going since 1983, which started as an AD&D game until 1993 when a black legion company took over the chaos infested Feudal world of Harn... many of the same players (40+) still having a blast... none of us do tournaments as the game isn't the same with angry cheaters everywhere.

Yeah the store I usually use just went full price, so I scrambled to look for any on sale anywhere since the discount alone really isn't impressive. Did manage to pick up both but if I wasn't hunting right at midnight, well, it sold out everywhere that delivers near me minutes later, and almost all retailers did not give the full 15%, which I sure didn't get. I feel kinda burnt.

yeah got to my local store at 09:59 was the first to log in to the portal and by the time i had it in proceed to order it was "insufficient stock", the local store manager is a legend tho and said he's due in 2 boxes and since I made the effort to come in to store to order he will put one aside for me.

Remember, they answer to shareholders. In a system of infinite growth, the only expectation they have to meet is the shareholders' expectation of higher and higher payouts in perpetuity. Support smaller creators and companies. Vote with your money. They're banking on their name carrying them to success AGAIN. Enough people complain and still buy the shit they sell, so this pattern will continue.

My normal game store is a gw store, and I tried to place an order for a box and the special codex but they sold out before we could print the order. The guy did say that when he finds out if he will be getting a box in store he will let me know and hold it for me.

I never have a problem going to my local GW on preorder day and ordering when they go live. My understanding is that 'launch boxes' for a faction (comes w/ codex) are produced in significantly larger quantities than the battleforce boxes, like these Chaos ones. Part of the reason Kroot boxes are still available (other reason, imo - Kroot. Lol.)

I preordered my Dread Talons box from Gap Games (which is actually my local store) and apparently it was either the less popular one or they got less stock of Veterans because they sold out of it first. Both did sell out though.

As small distributor i'm glad i can order those bf and have high chances of selling them. At time when bigger shops want to end each other and fight over prices it gives me at least some sales. I understand not everyone is happy with it but i don't see the issue. Just pick it up in your local store. Support stores not big guys on the internet. If you do so next time this store will have duble amount of premiere items. By buing from big guys you harm yourself becouse they like to buy full stock of next premieres and raise prices.

The retailer I mainly go to for preordering GW stuff didn't even have the Veteran box listed properly, and getting the link to the article on his site only leads to 404. Second retailer was sold out by then, and the third I checked didn't even list that box either. GW raised prices too much on these boxes for me to bother checking their webstore supply.
