@@jay-uo2bi To be fair, Toyota's reputation is really based on its reliability/dependability and not of it keeping pace. It also leads the world with the best CVT technology and hybrid systems so Toyota has its own tricks.
They need to sort out the lag from a dead stop, its downright dangerous! And the displays/warnings need to have the chinese writting replaced or removed.
Sport mode helps considerably with turbo lag....but a idrive throttle controller would be a good addition... The dealership I bought mine off are going to offer them to new customers shortly ...so I was told
@@grantgrant9430 We did give sport mode a go, but couldn't notice any significant difference. It was so dangerous that it required a completely new risk assessment criteria for taking off at a round a bout or intersection. Perhaps the automatic gearbox had been the culprit, which is likely because they adapt to previous driving, so being a demo car we have no idea how people have been driving it.
Other manufacturers just aren't putting as much effort into their utility vehicles as their passenger vehicles, so GWM has come through strong. It doesn't seem better than the other utes, but it has caught up and it's cheaper.
It's all about value. It should be seen as a tool to tow your stuff around that can fit enough people comfortably and does the job for minimum cost with minimum pain. Most people aren't going to flex, going the minefields or extreme offroading with these.
@@seanlee3863 yeah in some countries a truck is also some sort of status symbol...sort of aspirational brand like a Merc or BMW SUV. A Haval will always be the cheap and budget one...but if that's what one can afford I presume it's OK...
@@seanlee3863 yeah probably not, just amazing that some reviews try to put it in the same league and then there is the followers who can't afford better but who has a lot to say 🤔
How can you say that it's a candidate for a 5 star ANCAP rating based on the specs? I'd be waiting for the ANCAP crash testing results that I hear aren't far away. That said the GWM Cannon is keenly priced. Prospective buyers would be well advised to wait for the ANCAP test results.
That's okay - we have 80 rangers here we can't use on grass. They catch fire. You know the LDV is sold in Saudi right? You know - the only other place that's hotter than Australia. They seem to be okay over there.
@@gmarshall1026 The major difference here being that the HT didn't have a catalytic converter that reaches 600 degrees centigrade, that's placed directly under the vehicle. The engineers didn't do their job properly and that reflects poorly with legal and HR departments quickly when class-action lawsuits get mentioned, when you end up burning down the town because of it. So there's that. Then there's the fact that every other brand manages not to do that.
I'm interested to see how these compare with the ldv t60, both can be picked up between $30- $40k and come packed with gear that you only get on the higher models from other brands
GWM Ute is much better selling vehicle than any ute in China, so if the chinese people choose GWM over LDV, that's something with long-term quality. Haval and GWM are ok, don't even consider MG and LDV. BYD is not a bad choice for EV cars.
But no car play, horrible handling (The Megga tub jiggles because of chassis flex!) and generally unrefined completion. LDV needs another generational change to come good. It's damned close though. Give SAIC another 2 years and they too will be class leading.
@@tcpnetworks honestly for the money they both seem like amazing deals. I'm currently in the market for a new ute. But not sure if it's worth saving thousands over the possibility of low reliability
@@seanlee3863 7 year Unlimited km with roadside assist. If it does fail after that time expires, I'd leave it by the side of the road and get another for the price on offer.
Reinstate tariffs every single made in China cars to repay the debt and let’s make Australian manufacturing great again despite politicians resisted to abolish a so-called Luxury Car Tax that funded those Aussie made cars are gone for good.
I guess 1.4 billion people have got no issues with their products..that they have the largest car market in the world, that their cars are built in super modern, robotics assembly lines.. Last I looked, these people have a modern car industry and we got none. I think we need to move on with the times, can’t hold someone down forever.. just saying.
This video really got my attention and I headed out the dealer for a test drive. All I can say is that I cannot fault the build quality. Admittedly the dealer let me drive the top of the range loaner. ZF 8 speed gearbox as used in all the top end BMW for years. And the mod cons electronics safety camera pack looks like a licensed Bosch product in the top end Mercedes vehicles. The leather faux or not looks really nice. Drove quite nicely indeed, although having never driven a ute, it took a bit of getting used to. All in all if I were in a market for a ute and I had limited budget, I will definitely consider this ute. And the 7 year warranty seals the deal. Not a bad vehicle if you can look past the conventional biases. Hey after all these guys have a space station and a rover on Mars. What have we got? Some red dust that we sell to them to come back as GWM Utes... LOL
I'm just disappoint with their and also LDV's implementation of Android Auto. It's not true Android Auto where you plug your USB cable in and it detects it and just works. You gotta use a screen mirroring app unfortunately. I think this has to do with a US trade war or a fight between China & Google for some reason.
