This is a Video Describing how to hone a GY6 cylinder in preparation for new Piston Rings. The Cylinder in the video is a ZNEN, 150cc (57.4mm) off of a Short Case with the engine stamp of BN157QMJ.
For the Honing Brush I use a non-traditional Flex-Hone Brush Made by WiseCo. The video was my trial run. :)
The cylinder in the video was off an engine with roughly 6000 miles and I had cleaned it before filming. It did not require deglazing and my only intent was to get the 45* cross-hatch for the rings to seat.
The WiseCo Hone brush is Nylon material and after using, I do recommend this Product. For the 150cc size scooter, I for sure recommend the 45-57mm one. If you're going with BBK's, you may want the 57-70mm
When you hone the cylinder, the cross hatch pattern allows oil to stick to the cylinder wall. If the cylinder wall is too smooth, oil will not stick to it and your engine will not be properly lubricated.
The Wiseco Brush left a nice plateau finish for the oil to stick to. Another really nice thing about the wiseco brush is that it does not enlarge the cylinder, while still having the ability to remove microscopic blemishes and scuffs.

Thank you so much Daniel for your very informative replies...yes I did look into this a little and I think the 11 pole can throw out a good amount of wattage ...as I mention before the reason for my question is because I use my scooter as a back up generator and support vehicle so I'm trying to upgrade my stator ...I would be more than happy to buy one from you..just need to dirt out the technical aspects for compatibility...let me know if your interested ..great channel..God bless😊

You realize you want to make a 45 degree crosshatch? Your running your drill too fast to do so.

How did this cylinder perform? Was the honing sufficient or did it wear out quickly?

Hi Daniel...sorry to hassle you but do you know the nominal amp output of a 125cc GY6 magneto? Many thanks

+versatec1 Hi Versatec1... It is no hassle at all. Your a very kind person and I like talking to you. To answer your question, there are many different magnetos (stators) for the GY6 125cc size engine. They come in 4, 6, 8, 11, 12 and 18 pole... A general rule of thumb is the higher pole count, the greater the amp output. But there are many exceptions to this rule... Not all stators are the same... Some use more copper on the poles and a higher quality copper wire. For example, take 2 different stators from two different manufacturer, one will produce more electricity than the other because of more and higher quality wire.... So, what I can share with you is this... Inform me of how many poles the stator you're talking about has, and I will provide a "base-line" to go by, not exact numbers (but very close).
