This is a Video Describing how to hone a GY6 cylinder in preparation for new Piston Rings. The Cylinder in the video is a ZNEN, 150cc (57.4mm) off of a Short Case with the engine stamp of BN157QMJ.
For the Honing Brush I use a non-traditional Flex-Hone Brush Made by WiseCo. The video was my trial run. :)
The cylinder in the video was off an engine with roughly 6000 miles and I had cleaned it before filming. It did not require deglazing and my only intent was to get the 45* cross-hatch for the rings to seat.
The WiseCo Hone brush is Nylon material and after using, I do recommend this Product. For the 150cc size scooter, I for sure recommend the 45-57mm one. If you're going with BBK's, you may want the 57-70mm
When you hone the cylinder, the cross hatch pattern allows oil to stick to the cylinder wall. If the cylinder wall is too smooth, oil will not stick to it and your engine will not be properly lubricated.
The Wiseco Brush left a nice plateau finish for the oil to stick to. Another really nice thing about the wiseco brush is that it does not enlarge the cylinder, while still having the ability to remove microscopic blemishes and scuffs.
