So this plant is gynura procumbens which at first I thought is the Ashitaba (as told to me by my wife). However, as I researched the Internet and watched the various videos, discovered that the real Ashitaba is different. Both of them, however, have similar health benefits. What I like about the gynura is it is easy to propagate, in fact I have several of them now growing in my backyard garden. Also, it taste good. I usually mix them up with my green salad. Even my teenage granddaughter likes it!!!

one friend give me few and put them in the water for roots to start it very easy to now it's been a year it multiply and been researching and the out come wow anyway I'm pruning them start more and might give to a friend which have health problems .now that I have more info I start using them it said to prevent for lots of Illnesses.

Here in Indonesia, we called it `daun sambung nyawa` = life extender leaves :) ... One of our local green. We eat it raw or eat it with traditional sambal ( sauce made from chili). But the downside is, our younger generations is more familiar with greens as lettuce. And its difficult to find them in cities, except you grow it by yourself. my mom has diabetes and high blood pressure. And my father has high colesterol. They consumed this leaves and has a positive result. So planted severap pots of them. So easy to grow.

Yuni Khairun Nisa Hi Nisa! Book Green Pharmacy pg 245. there is nothing . nothing fot diabetes. like stringbeans juices 5 glasses a day. Just extracted and drink it. Must be fresh , do not store. Second advice this is mine. Consume very hot toast early morning without smearing and do not drink anything for one hour. Toast became as a sponge: sucks acid which couses maine health problems. Read a book Wheat Belly by William Davis by 2011 and after Alkalize or Die. Those books gives you knowledge to improve your health. Frankly speaking, yhanks to thosr books I quit a bread 937 days already fom 44 I came now to 35 in waiste, from 230 lbs I am 190 lbs. Eat one type of protein per plate with only vegeyables. Carbohydrates eat alone before or after plate. Ended meal with fruit: grapefruit grapes., an orange or pear pineapple. Drink only 20 minutes before meal or 30 minutes after to prevent to delute diagestive juices. Eat a lot of salads with kale, spinach, seeds and nuts granded. Eat soup with protein and vegetables. To the vapour water place fish for 5 minutes use salt and Red Wine Vinegar. After one lump add variety of vegetables cut very fine. Now after 7 to 8 minutes turn gas or knob with electricity. Leave for 20 minutes. Purpose of this short time is to fo not loose vitamin and minerals. Now take a blender or nutri-bullet and place a soup enhance with scallion, parsley, garlic, ginger, tumeric, salt pepper small tomato, spinach, whatever you want: be my guess! Add grounded flaxeed powder. Make prayer over your nutritional food, eat very slowly, and praise the God what you have gotten. Make in this way 3 times chicken breast soup every week. Just cut a matured stem from the plant. Plant it on the ground. Water regularly. It’s a fast and easy-to-grow plant. You can mix it in salad, vegetable recipes or just eat it by itself.

I have this plant growing in my livingroom and I have 6 pots! I have several cuttings in water and every now and then I give them away, because they grow so beautifully. I know this plant as 'Pohon Dewa' coming from Indonesia (and I'm in Holland!). Thank you for sharing on youtube. Now I know it's also good for diabetics and high cholesterol..

Do the leaves eventually become fuzzy? Little white fuzz across the leaves. I received cuttings of GP and over a few months time the leaves transformed from smooth to fuzzy.

Do you know why some gynura procumbens has pale green stems and some has reddish purple stems? I'm not talking about the gynura crepiodes which has reddish purple on the underside of the leaves. I'm referring to the fact that gynura procumbens sometimes has reddish purple stems like in this video and sometimes has pale green stems. Are there two varieties of gynura procumbens?

Wendy your plants appear to look more like Gynura nepalensis than gynura procumbens due to the more distinct Jagged edges and deeper colored stem. What do you think? These Asian spinach that look-alike get confusing.

I have this plant just in the summer and it grew so fast with so many side sprouts using my homemade compost. Based on your video It seems to me your plants still young like mine. Do these plants could withstand west coast mild winter temperature ? Am just curios to know how long you've been using it as salads or making it as shakes?

I was raised on eating this vegetable, but did not start adding them to shakes/smoothies and salads until the past decade. It grows well in Southwest region, but best to plant with a little protection. Winter rain does stress it quite a bit, but it does come back. Happy Gardening!

seems to be doing much better with the rare los angeles rainy season we've been having. definitely better performance in shade and cooler weather. I have to be diligent in watering both since I live in the valley

Absolutely! Although this vegetable grows well in full sun or full/part shade, they seem to be the most happy in part shade. The heat in the summer can be too intense for them growing in full sun without sufficient watering.

You probably found out by now but yes. In the winter I take cutting and use it as a table decor. Then sure to have some the next spring.

Sorry for such delay! I would dig it up, repot and bring inside until days warm up. You can keep the pot by the window during the cold period. I have heard that Gynura does grow back in spring for places that snows over, but I don't feel that it's safe to count on that.

Both plants have their own health benefits to offer, but they are different species. Gynura is a vegetable, it's not caffeinated like tea. New growth of Gynura does look a lot like tea plant. Happy Gardening!

+eric white Wow that's amazing that it made it through winter, did it snow there? Did you leave it without watering all winter? Maybe the soil and pot kept the roots warm enough to survive. Gynura leaves look similar to spinach, but tips are more sharp, texture is more soft and a little fuzzy.
