Hey man, just want to thank you for such a well made video. Your combination of good lighting, clear angles, and a quality camera made it soooo much easier to understand what exactly you were doing in each step. I will be installing the OE sport springs on my GTI this weekend and this was a huge help!
Thanks so much Jason! That's what I'm going for - fairly simple and straight forward, but with the right amount of detail. Sometimes frustrating installs compromise that... but i try my best to keep it all in there.
Thanks for your install video. Helped me complete mine today. Used the 2x4 method because axle bolts scare me but your clear filming helped a great deal.
This is by far the most straight forward and helpful video I’ve found on this. Hoping to do mine next weekend. Approx how long did it take you to complete all 4 springs?
The drop is primo, dude! Oh man, I definitely noticed the damage right away but didn't realize it wasn't in the before image and a result of this work. My mouth was literally hanging open when you described how it happened. Glad you're safe, but so bummed for you!
It was very preventable and very regrettable, but not reversible :( Worst part is its all fiberglass there - can't even tap it out a bit to make it look just a little bit less bad
Nice video, I'm glad you grabbed the correct springs for the Alltrack and GSW4motion. I've seen some using Golf R with reverse rack and having to correct it afterwards.
Since you re-insalled the original shocks on the new springs, I'm interested to know if you have found any issues with using this combination. More specifically, since the original shocks were designed to be used with a longer spring, did you find any problems or degraded performance as a result of having longer travel on the shocks paired with shorter springs? Are the shocks holding up well? I have a 2004 VW GTI VR6 andI bought a set of Eibach springs that will lower the car approximately 30mm. I also purchased Bilstein B6 shocks which are designed to be OEM replacements. Essentially the shocks have the same dimensions and travel as the OEM shocks but will be paired with the slightly shorter springs. I view this as a similar approach that you took with your car. As a result, before I do the maintenance I'm interested in the good and bad of this approach that you have experienced with your suspension since performing this maintenance. Thank you for making this video, and thanks in advance for as much feedback as you're able to give me on your experience with the setup highlighted in the video.
You are correct, these two together are not the 'perfect match' but for daily driving, it was perfectly fine and a lot of fun. The biggest downside was a more bouncy ride over larger bumps, with less controlled dampening. Others really have enjoyed the pairing of HR lowering springs and the B6 shocks.
@@DadWagon I may eat the cost of the B6 shocks and not install them. Instead, I think it might be better to buy the B8 shocks since they are better suited to be paired with the slightly lowered Eibach springs. My mistake for buying the B6 shocks. Okay will not be good enough. I'm concerned that the excessive dampening travel would prematurely wear out the shocks. One follow up question for you; have you experienced any issues with the bottom of your vehicle bottoming out on speed bumps or other similar obstacles as a result of the springs lowering the car? I'm somewhat concerned since I do not know what clearance I currently have between the oil pan (lowest part under the car) and speed bumps, and whether lowering the car 30mm as a result of the new springs, might be too much. I greatly appreciate your feedback. Separately, do you know anyone who needs a new, never used, still in the box, set of four Bilstein B6 shocks sold at a discount?
Great video bro! Do you have any idea how similar a install of the same H&R springs would be on a 2009 Volvo C30 (T5)? Can’t seem to find a good instructional video like this for a ‘09 Volvo C30, but I know they are a fairly popular lowering choice. Although I’ve been strongly recommended to upgrade my struts and shocks when installing the H&R Sport Springs. 💰🙄 Please lmk if you think this vehicle or maybe a different one (that have nice videos like yours, and are an easy find in RU-vid) would be a good fit. At least for the main steps. I see a lot of video for H&R lowering springs for VW, BMW, and Audi. But no Volvo C30 guys decided to make videos!😂Thanks again!✌🏻
yeah, for the basics steps, I'm sure it would be a good getting started video - but having some instruction on the more difficult nuances of your car specifically would really be helpful too
Thanks for the video. I want to put the H&R sport springs in my Alltrack (only 7k miles). I called up H&R and asked if they recommended new shocks or bump stops and they were like nope. It’s designed to work with the stock equipment. Are you still happy with it? You kept the stock equipment...shocks still good? Thanks.
Yeah, so far - there hasn't been any issues. I know it's been a mix for many GSW/Alltrack drivers. Alot like the idea of swapping the shocks while everything is disassembled and go with Bilsteins. Mine is all good right now though.
Okayyyy Got some questions! You've changed the springs but you stayed with the same chuck....After that....do you need to realigned the wheels on the car? I am looking to lower my sportwagen too! Cheers! Thanks for your answer!
Just a side note for the spring compressors: you are not supposed to use automatic tools on them. For shorter springs it may be fine, but don't do it for the larger springs, like the ones on the Alltrack. Spend some time and do it with the wrench.
Like i shared with you directly, your review and videos helped inform my decision. I appreciate your detailed reviews and info - much more detailed than what I get to.
Two helpful tips for the rear suspension. Right side: remove the liner, unscrew the evap tank and use a long flat screwdriver to reach the clip behind the tank. There is a gap in the tank that allows reaching the clip to release the assembly. Left side: if you have a ride height sensor installed make sure to disconnect it from the ball joint first, before doing anything else.
Did you wind up using the TTS pads in the rear to correct rake? And are these lower than the Eibachs generally sit to your knowledge? Obviously on a binge of your videos again
Will my mk7 golf tsi have the same ride height as yours if i went with the hr sport springs? im not sure if the gti/golf/sportwagon all have different factory springs on them or not. Great vid btw!
Great job with the video! Loved the hockey puck technique, too! Thanks for posting! I enjoyed this format more than any of the other videos I've come by on youtube.
I was looking at springs online for my 19 sw but I came across three different heights, as in how much they’ll lower my car. I wasn’t sure how 2.0” in the back and 1.8” in the front would look. So I was wondering which springs you put on.
@@DadWagon thanks for the confirmation! I'm thinking of doing the same thing for my Škoda octavia. Too bad you didn't talk about the radar adjustments. I'm curious what will happen to it when the car is lowered
