I have done research and have found out the abyss is a water spawner, if it drains completely it will slowly make new water blocks, the depths under the desert works the same way, so no it's not possible to truely drain the abyss.

so i found out that with vein miner you can whitelist blocks and vein mine them ex: whitelist stone blocks and hold what ever you have vein mine set to and it will destroy all that are next to eachother
