I think Mel Gibson is a good example of how people can have their highs and lows, continuously seek God, make mistakes, and still do phenomenal things. Never criticize a man for his mistakes if he proactively seeks after God. it's never too late to choose God ❤
Your insight is so profound , and I believe, true. Mel Gibson is a genius, albeit a tortured one. He is a Renaissance man, with enough talent to burn. His range is as wide as the sky, both his acting and his directing. He does seek the Lord, but stumbles into different doors. Like us. We owe him so much, and a few prayers, too. Thank you, Mr. Gibson.
Completely agree. People that still judge him for his very public screw ups make me very angry. It's arrogant, for us to compare ourselves and our mistakes to someone who was thrust into the relentless paparazzi floodlights like someone as famous as Mel. Anyone w/ an ounce of humility could quietly remember their most embarrassing times and thank the Lord there were no cameras or tapes to capture it and blaze it everywhere, out of context no less, for all the world to feast on and judge.
I finally got to see this last night and I'm super proud of Andrew and Mel and the rest of the cast and crew. I grew up on Mel's work and Andrew is my favorite spiderman and this movie made me almost cry and wish I could personally thank Desmond himself but he's already passed. They told an incredible story
I turned it on, did not even know its name, actor, or director. I said to myself that this was one of the most stellar films which I have ever seen. Then I found out it was Gibson's.I was not surprised.
Absolutely. I really enjoyed this movie. And I really don't enjoy 90% of the movies you can see today. The whole movie is great, but I especially loved the depiction of the romance between Desmond and Dorothy. I can feel it while I'm watching, and I personally find it way more realistic than about any romance in a movie I watched the last 20 years. I look for a beautiful woman with a beautiful mind (which took me very long), and then I enjoy her and the honor to have her, and I try to live up to that honor, and I'm thankful everytime I think of my marriage, and that's quite often.
Their intensity is worth everything. My father went through that same hell and nothing he did after the war came close to that experience. From the bullet that passed through the calf of one leg only to burn its way into the other leg, to the shrapnel scars on his back, to the removal of the dead bodies at night from the trenches, to the hospitals, back to the front line, back to the hospital ... to coming home and wondering why everything was so, so quiet and calm when his memories of it were so loud. He was at home only when he was re-living parts of it. If we could only find a more productive way to reach such intensity...
My mother's brother was in the battle of six theaters of war including Okinawa. My uncle on the beach area was rowing a boat/raft to rescue two wounded men when a mortar blasted near him. He was thrown in the air and lay wounded on the shore. He painfully carried metal shrapnel in the bones of his legs for the rest of his life. He went on to work until his sixties, and to raise a family and lived to be 99. Mr. Garfield, I cannot express in enough words my gratitude to you, and Mr. Gibson, for the hard work and long long hours on this film to portray the brave men, including my wonderful Uncle, who were in this terrible battle. I said a prayer for you Mr. Gibson and Mr. Garfield that you be blessed for all eternity. Thanks so very much.
'Hacksaw Ridge'- Is One of 'The 'BEST ' Movies, I've EVER SEEN!!!...I watched it ,Then I Watched it AGAIN!. Then I had Friend's Over & we Watched it!... Then I had Another Friend Over & we Watched it also!!!... I Can Tell You, it is a WONDERFUL Movie, in That The 'CHARACTER ' of the man- DESMOND DOSS, - He is an INSPIRATION to me & I Know EVERYONE who has Seen The Movie with me, I was Struck by The 'STRENGTH & DEPTH'- of his Convictions, he NEVER wavered & his Refusal to Pick up or Carry a gun, even when Japanese sniper's have him in thier crosshairs & bombs are going off Everywhere around him ,buddies be blown up Etc.Etc.& he still hangs on to his Convictions while crawling on ground to Rescue his men !!!.. As Many TIMES as I've SEEN this Movie & I STILL CRY each TIME, That SOMEONE COULD have That MUCH STRENGTH OF CHARACTER, & When he's saying-"Lord just ONE more, just ONE more, as he's crawling on the ground & the bombs are going off all around him, etc. Etc...He TRULY 'LIVED' The 'THOU SHALL NOT KILL' & Was There as Medic. To 'SAVE' Lives, What an 'INSPIRATION ' he truly is!!!...The DEEPER Subjects in The Movie TRULY do bring up a LOT of Questions, but also DESMOND DOSS, has a way of Answering Them in his Way!!!.. This is a man who is an
The one thing I loved about his character in the movie is his natural smile. It's so cute in a non lovey-dovey kinda way. It just makes you smile and feel happy. He's an amazing actor!
no one in this day and age can image what Desmond Doss and those soldiers went thru . Okinawa was the bloodiest battle of wwii with the most battle fatigue casualties of the whole war. Desmond Doss humility and hero
Jim Caviesel, watched Mel Gibson as he directed The Passion of the Christ. Jim did some killer imitations of Mel Gibson. His quick, constant movements. Constant fidgeting. What in the world would he do if he did not have a beard now ? I think that his words cannot keep up with his brain. Genius, on every level.
Mel , being a great director because He "got" the character. He knew who Desmond was and what he represented. ONly a really great director can do this. Great job Me.
To me the way the bucolic lead up to the horrific battle scenes was a big part of the impact of the movie. The technique it seems to me, was instructive to the viewer as to just what a horrific change those boys went through and was a great part of the experience of watching.
The scene after he saves those men and launches off the cliff to the bottom, and the guys are all checking him to see if he is okay and he’s freaking out in shock is some of the best acting I’ve ever seen in my life. Only thing close was Tom Hanks at the end of Captain Phillips when the corpsman is checking him out in the medbay.
mr. Palma. Mel Gibson is amazing but he didn't come up with it bro, Desmond said it himself. If u watch the end of the movie with the interviews with the people themselves. Desmond is a legend.
Mi querido Andrew espero que Dios te de la oportunidad de trabajar con este gran maestro del cine actor y productor para que puedas hacer peliculas con mensajes muy significativo para ayudar a muchas vidas que van por el camino incorrecto
It is sad to see Mel like this. I remember the reasonable semi-well adjusted artist. Now he his obviously having serious problems. I do not judge him for the things he said in an awful moment, but for his entire life and incredible talent.
Querido sr Mel Querido Andrew ruego aDios y ala virgrncita Maria q los cuide alos 2 y todos sus familiares los amo q Diosito los acompañe en todo momento
"GLAD TO 'SEE' MEL BACK, & 'SMILING ' & 'LAUGHING', 'GREAT INTERVIEW ', -'LOVE, THAT- 'STRENGTH OF 'SPIRIT', & 'FAITH', 'SUFFERING, & SACRIFICE, IT WILL, SHOW, WHAT YOU'RE 'MADE' OF, 'WHAT A 'GREAT' MOVIE, -"I THINK, THAT,- ANDREW GARFIELD, 'NAILED ' DESMOND DOSS, 'CHARACTER ', SO WELL, I CAN 'SEE', HIM, HIS FAMILY CRYING, IT WAS SO 'REAL', -"AN 'UNBELIEVABLY ' 'STRONG ' CHARACTER, HE HAD, I'D LIKE TO THINK, I'D BE LIKE THAT. AS I CAN'T KILL, THING'S. HOW MANY 'OSCAR'S ' FOR THIS 'MOVIE', -'CONSCIENTIOUS COOPERATER'!!!.."THIS, 'MOVIE, IS 'SOO 'INSPIRING', 'THE 'DEPTH' OF A 'CHARACTER ' LIKE DESMOND DOSS!!!..💯💯💯👍👍👍😘😍🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤💘💘💘💘🌹🌹🌹🌹🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
So many comments about Mel fidgeting with his beard, (for the professor & the madman). Please give this guy a break, he quit drinking and smoking, he’s got to do something with all his electricity.
The interviewer's voice is annoying AF, but otherwise good interview. You don't usually see Mel give interviews these days in which he doesn't look preemptively tense and irritated.
I have to laugh, Mel mentions in the interview that he is 5' 10", which may be true in riding boots, as he wore in the Lethal Weapon Series, but I have met him twice and he was wearing joggers on one of the occasions and he was no more than 5' 7". So many short actors seem to always magically add two or three inches on to their height!:)
