It's like when we all said "the writing for this franchise cannot POSSIBLY be any worse than Halo 5" and they took it as a fucking challenge...

Cortana's facial expressions throughout the episode is basically our reaction towards this show

I defended this show to the end... I gave it every opportunity I possibly could to not suck because Halo is my favorite franchise of all time. This Is irredeemable. I'm legitimately so sad.

Hot takes: 1 - Halsey literally 'order 66'd' the Spartans. 2 - Cortana watching Chief and Makee was weird AF. 3 - Cortana saying Chief wasn't alone, and then Halsey saying he never was, in the context of them discussing Chief and Makee's sex scene was even more weird.

Genuinely appreciate this “brutally” honest review this time. There is no reason they need to keep up with the nonsense of this show. Yes there are like 3 good things you can say about this series but this is an example of how the writers don’t care about the audience of this show. They don’t care about the lore. They don’t care about the gamers that allowed this show the even be a thing. They will destroy everything they can just to make money and I HOPE they lose money and learn a valuable lesson from this.

The fact there was a woman who was held by the covenant like that just alone was enough to blow my mind how far they went to disregard the material. The covenant went on an entire crusade to wipe out all of humanity for the reason the prophets didn't want everyone to find out it was mankind who inherited the mantle. This lady existing there at all like that would completely shatter the covenant if they saw her use any of the forrunner technology, but nah we'll just make her their jesus it'll be fine

The character Todd, played by Kurt Russell, in the film "Soldier" is one of, if not the best, depictions of a child soldier brought to adulthood, and would have been a fine template to start with; not this.

Halo fan loses last piece of hope he didn't know he still had

-Master Cheeks finds the sex -Spartan IIs are willing to blow MCs brains out, literal robots -UNSC doesn’t have an AI or program to analyze the recording a billion different ways -planet is glassed, then base comms go down, no one sounds an alarm -no video camera in Makee’s room -no video camera keeping an eye on Halsey -Master Cheeks takes several Mjolnir power armor punches to the skull, which were just shown to evaporate concrete. His skull and skin made of Titanium?

Prediction: makee’s betrayal, her calling the covenant to reach and chief having to kill her in the finale is gonna turn him into a cold non talking helmet wearing badass for season 2 where hopefully we pick up where halo Reach ends/Combat evolved starts. I don’t wanna hype myself up for this fictional scenario because I know it’s not gonna happen. These show makers aren’t smart enough to do something that would make the fans happy.

Not even the Flood would want to be a part of this experience.

I’m tired of the constant human melodrama during a time when humanity is supposed to be on the brink of defeat in the bloodiest war of their history. With exception to the end of episode five and a few moments sprinkled throughout I feel the covenant have no purpose in this story. The covenant are as much a part of Halo as Chief and Cortana yet the writers don’t seem to care or realize it. I’m sure budget limitations are a factor but you can still give them a presence without physically seeing them *all* the time.

My favorite part is when they let the supposed "mentally unreliable" Spartan have full access to the only covenant prisoner they've ever had. Including having sex with her in her cell, and no guard ever even checks on them 😂 She could have killed or corrupted Cheif... The security protocols here are ridiculous.

I really feel like one of the other members of Silver Team should've been the main character, that way the writers would've had a lot more freedom to do different things with them without changing the personalities of established characters from the games. The chief would still have been there, but because there wouldn't be as much focus on him, they could've made him more like the chief in the games.

This show makes Halo 5's campaign look competent

Just a straight up adaptation of Nylund's "The Fall of Reach" would have made for a cracking 1-2 seasons of TV. This Silver Timeline story seems to zig everywhere common sense and would expect it to zag. Amazing.

They just needed to make a show that was a military space shooter with Halo's plot, aliens and reasonably good CGI. That would have satisfied the fans. Were it so easy.

The only positive thing I can say about the show at this point is, it has given me a better appreciation of just how great the games are (well, most of them, at least), and made me want to replay them! And hopefully override the memory of this BS😂

"Parallel Universe" = We're hijacking, rewriting and destroying everything you know and love. This show has been such a disappointment. They have so much material to work with and they completely ignore it. All because the writers and directors let their egos get in the way and as they've admitted, aren't Halo fans.

They should have SHOWN criterion get glassed. Show the prophets order something, the ships getting in line, the plasma coming down. Switch to the streets, Armageddon starts after a short scene with a civilian family, everything melts, people burning up into cinders, the streets turn to lava like that. Show the horror unfold, not just the aftermath. Or maybe this was a teaser and they’re saving that for reach. Also I’m quickly losing my patience with this show now

I find it to be indicative of what the franchise is doing when someone like HiddenXperia- one of the influencers who has always been passionate and excited for Halo- has basically given up and started moving on to new things. I don't blame people for saying that the IP is trash when the most easily accessed media is such crap and recent games have been mismanaged.

The spartans really went the whole "Good soldiers follow orders" route with Catherine Palpatine playing everyone like a damn fiddle. This whole episode was a friggin rollercoaster and the attempt on my life has left me both scarred and deformed

Your reaction to that scene actually made my night here, especially as soon as you mentioned the Intimacy Coordinator, I screamed and started laughing my ass off. Jokes and laughs aside, I am officially scared for Season 2 if this is how things are going. Just when I thought this show could not go anymore downhill, I was wrong...dead wrong. And it greatly saddens me to see Halo be dragged through the mud this way. I wanted to like this show, but it slowly became more and more disappointing, despite my patience and hope for the best. With two more episodes to go, I do not look forward to what happens next. But I said, from day one, that I would see this to the end. Now I don't know if I even I wanna do that. I would say that up until they started taking out John that Riz and Vannak were the closest this show got to standard canon. But believing Halsey over John just took it a step too far for me. The Spartans never were robots, they were trained to use their intelligence to solve changing battlefield conditions and they trusted each other above everything else. They made Spartans into Star Wars clones and Order 66.

Imagine being an extremely loyal longtime Halo fan, expecting this show for almost a decade, only for your enjoyment to be ruined in a few episodes. Thanks 343 and Paramount.

I remember when halo was about finding ancient forerunner death weapons, killing alien religious zealots and fighting an ancient parasite (oh and actually fighting a war). Guess it’s about MC and his slice of life romance story now. Gotta love producers trying to make games into movies/tv shows, they can never make it right.

Me after watching this episode: You know, Halo 5 campaign might not have been that bad after all.

Producers just can't resist the temptation to fuck everything up when they're making adaptations of popular culture. They always have to add new characters, tell new stories, rewrite the canon or make 'silver timelines.' They had the easiest job in the world. They had a blueprint for a project that already had massive fan support, and they still managed to snatch mediocrity from the jaws of fiscal success. Why did they even bother slapping the Halo namesake on this? It's not even really bad as a show. It could have been it's own thing, and be a good start to something new. Instead it's pathetic, and all anyone will think is how it's not what they wanted.

The helmet never should have come off on screen, even in the game. The mystery was an enormous part of Halo's original charm and a lot of kids could empathize with a protagonist like that, when he took off his helmet at the end of CE but it was slightly out of frame, you knew it was okay to finally relax.

My god, I feel bad for all the people who were doing their best to defend this show. If I had to pick one word to describe this episode, it's bipolar. One minute we're strolling through a park covered in cherry blossoms, next we're watching footage of a planet that the Covenant has just glassed, millions of people dead, then we're watching Chief get it on. Like, wut? This episode had me on the edge of my seat for all the wrong reasons, mostly because I was yelling "this makes no sense" at the screen the whole time.

You know the only way to save this show is at the very end of this episode the screen zooms out to reveal the show is being playe on a television. The same shot pans to reveal two marines watching. One marine speaking with an Aussie accent (chips dubbo) exclaims "thats not what happened" Srgt Johnson enters and tells the marines to get off their asses and join the rest of the marines. This scene shows that this show is an in universe show about Halo set in the actual Halo universe

Unless the writer was an undercover agent of SONY this whole time and planned this destruction years ago, this is probably the greatest backstab that any community from a beloved franchise has ever gotten

It never fails to amaze me that people are so incompetent at adapting games to other media. Halo especially drives this home for me because in my opinion Halo's lore is as deep as something like Star Wars. There is so much they could do with the show but they decided to post cringe. It's incredibly sad to watch.

I was never excited for Halo to be adapted by hollywood to a tv show. Anyone could've known that they wouldn't have done it justice. No one could have anticipated that they decided to make every wrong move possible.

I played all the games, loved every minute of it! I wasn't a devout fan (i.e I didn't read any books) but still this just doesn't even feel like Halo. Weren't Spartans taken as children, genetically and otherwise altered to be perfect soldiers? Weren't they supposed to tactical and logical not overly emotional? How does one "fall in love," or connect with someone sexually when all you know is being a soldier? Please correct me if I'm wrong in my thinking.

When we ask "when are we going to get some real action" I think the creators of this show took it a different way.

They had all the books, the lore, the games, the short animations, LEGENDARY Bungie ads. They had all of that at their disposal and only needed to just read/watch/play them to understand the writing-style that Halo has been going for all these years (we don't count Halo 5) ... and yet, THEY STILL FUCKED UP! If they wanted all this cliché nonsense and random-ass story telling, they could've just used Spartan IV's instead ... at least that way, we can expect the bs because we've already experienced it once before; don't desecrate the mythic Spartan II's like this.
