@@HiddenXperia Your review and Halo Canon’s were the ones I was the most excited for. If you guys enjoyed it I knew I would too. The campaign was great yeah (Halo 2 is my favourite still) but it felt a bit hollow. There were no ‘underground cities’ or Human settlements. Even the audio logs were quite barebones in my opinion (nothing like Halo 5’s). When Halo Divine Wind mentioned a large portion of Zeta Halo’s history was ‘missing’ I was excited. Like oh snap, something big must’ve gone down. We still have no answers. I’m hoping a campaign DLC will remedy this.

Being a “Halo 2 is the best Halo” cult member, all I wanna say is: The Arbiter not being present in the campaign REALY hurt my soul. During Halo 5’s ending, I was so excited to see what happened next when Chief and the Arbiter met again. So disappointed to not see it in a game 😭 And on a related note, the lack of Lasky, Halsey, or even Blue Team was weird. Shoving all these new in-game characters in our face in Halo 4/5 and then not having them reappear in Infinite AT ALL is just weird to me

I think the most wasted potential with 343 is their use of the aliens. All of their stories have had purely Human (the games) perspective on everything. Not once has 343 made a game where the perspective was that of the Aliens’. My favorite halo stories (halo 2, Broken Circle, and Shadow of Intent) have all been with the Aliens’ POV. All of them. There are so few halo stories not focused on the humans and so much wasted potential like the Kig-Yar or Yan’mee. It saddens me. Campaign was great IMO I was pleasantly surprised, the other part of the game is where I expected 343 to 343 it up lol Also, you ever get the strong feeling that 343 never brings in the flood when they can because they don't just want to ride on Bungies coattails? But in an effort to not do that, they ignore the fans of the game and what they want. Then they try to come up with their own "Big bad" that just falls so short, its a letdown every time. Its clear 343 is trying to recapture lightning in a bottle again when it comes to that twist that elevates it to ridiculous levels rather than just make a good game that people enjoy. I think that's what is letting everyone down. If they would just go for it and make a good game and not worry about being THE halo developer, they would probably have done the trilogy a lot better.

I love the flood and would love to see them in another game but I feel like people really want stuff that they might not even like, sort of like how most people when you ask them what kind of coffee they'd like they say some dark and rich when most people prefer coffee light and creamy, people know what they think they want, but it might not be what they want. Halo fans are divided on the flood, some would want the flood to bring back the old horror elements of Halo, others would hate that. As much as I want them to, I understand why the flood didn't return in infinite

I feel like 343 is insecure about being "The Halo Studio". They desperately want to prove that Halo is their game now and things must be done their way. Halo Infinites campaign was a disappointment for me mainly because it feels like nothing happens. At the end of the game the Banished are still on zeta halo and the UNSC are still scattered across the ring. You don’t re-unify the UNSC, and you don’t even get to reunite with any other characters from previous games like Palmer or Lasky. Yes, sure at the end of the game the endless are released but why should anyone care. There are no stakes associated with them like there was with the flood. We only know that the endless are dangerous because characters throughout the game say that they are. If 343 really wanted us to know how dangerous the endless really were they should have let us fight them like we got to do with the flood in CE. I honestly do not understand what the point is with hyping up an enemy throughout the game and not even being able to fight them. As for gameplay, it was also extremely disappointing to have been limited to one environment throughout the entire game. It would have been cool to visit like a desert or snow environment but instead were limited to just 1.

Escharum (as cool as he was) is dead, the Harbinger is dead...like, really 343? The game was 1/4 baked, at BEST. And their DLC plans? Taking forever lol. Imagine, they said 10 YEAR lifecycle. Ummmm...how many DLC's are planned in that timeframe? Will we have to wait a year or more for each one? I gave 343 one last chance with Infinite, and while it was better than Halo 4 and 5...it just wasn't enough. When will we get games WITH THE BASICS AT LAUNCH? How many more games will they finish YEARS later? I swear man, the next game had better be developed by another company, or 343 management FIRED and replaced with better people. What I was disappointed in with infinite is that the missions are quite repetitive. None of them stand out particularly - think how each mission in Halo 1, 2, 3 and reach all have a unique setting, atmosphere, playstyle etc. For instance how Assault on the Control room feels very different to the library, which feels different to 343 guilty spark. Heck Assault on the Control Room feels very different from Two Betrayals despite being the same level backwards. The insertion of the flood and adding the verticality of the banshee, plus the night aesthetic, changes the whole thing up. That and what weapons you have access to is much more controlled, while Infinite makes sure you have just about any weapon you want at all times.

Although I loved it, I thought the campaign was waaaaay too safe. Like it felt empty fighting in the same biome and fighting the same faction. For example, Halo' s immersion was awesome with it's faction vs faction fights like the covenant and the flood. Why not have it in Halo Infinite? I was so confused why the sentinels were siding with the Banished when the Banished were also the ones invading the ring and drilling and destroying the environment. I know it was about repairing the ring and all, but it still felt off. It made no sense. Even after the monitor found out the Harbinger was bad, the sentinels after the campaign still sided with the Banished for some reason, The Sentinels / Forerunners shouldn't be picking sides. It would make the open world more immersive if we encounter sentinel vs banished fights since the flood is not in the story.

The main problem of the endless is they were all "tell" and no "show." As soon as we played Halo 1 we see Covenant running away in fear out of the "weapon storage facility" and see no elites during that level. We then see the Jenkins cutscene and Witness the Flood slaughter Keyes's team before actually having to fight them. Even in that game we *see* the threat they pose. In Infinite, Despondent Pyre and Cortana can't keep going on about how dangerous the Endless are, and that they can't be released at any cost. The final cutscene shows that Atroix is trying to recruit them. Do you know what's scarier? *Something that cannot be reasoned with and only seeks out death, and is more than capable than doing it.* Now we know that the Harbinger is a member of the Endless and probably is just as scary as the rest of them. I wasn't scared fighting them and neither was Chief. The only way they can salvage this whole Endless nonsense is to either connect them directly to the Precursors or show them as a worthy threat that can rival the Flood. This could be done by doing little things such as a Reaper style indoctrination effect they can have on Banished forces (making them either able to bend other species's to their will, or completely control their minds) and/or have the explanation for the existence of Skimmers to be that they were once Human marines that got tortured, mentally broken and then transformed into expendable Thrall used as canon fodder (seriously though, they just introduced a brand new enemy type and gave them 0 lore). They could also have larger story significance in the form of being direct creations of the Precursors and having the Xaladin Species being a harbinger race for their return (which would also signal the inevitable return of the Flood which would eradicate all threats from anyone until they have been dealt with, running us into our original problem). I just hate how the Endless are being built up as this super big bad problem that not even Halo's can kill, and I just care more about Dee Bradley Baker having a good plant monster voice. Still good game though, 8/10 overall

I personally was incredibly disappointed in the campaign. It’s still like an objective 7.5/10 at least, but it wasn’t what I wanted from Infinite. I come to Halo for the large scale battles and humanity saving adventures, and I go to Star Wars when I want deep personal stories with characters. Of course Infinite should absolutely have character development, but I wish they would’ve done it like Halo 4 where Chief does indeed progress as a character, but not at the cost of being one of the ONLY three humans he talks to personally throughout the entire game. I wanted to play through the Infinity’s destruction, build an actual resistance on the ring rather than just get some unlock-able Marines, I wanted to storm Escharum’s facility with the remnants of the UNSC.. not solo. It was so unbelievably small scale from what it could’ve been, and that disappointed me more than anything in my entire life so far. Dead serious. If it helps out I can explain. Cortana was enduring rampancy all throughout Halo 4. At the very end she sacrifices herself to retain The didact and to save chief by splitting herself being her algorithms and in doing so splitting her rampancy from her as well. Think of it as multiple personality disorder but on a cosmic level because she's basically a computer. Having touched almost everything that you could imagine forerunner-wise, and being as high capacity smart as she was, it was the very reason that was killing her what she explained at the beginning of four. Rampancy is having a plethora of information but not having any more room to store it, causing the AI to delete other information to make room, sadly some Court elements might be deleted which causes them to have a Cascade or rampancy as they slowly delete themselves to death. Cortana found the domain which is the forerunners major supporting infrastructure that helps connect all of their facilities and worlds, it is essentially the largest digital museum at this time due to their untimely Extinction. Having the ability to dump all of her excess information into the domain as if treating it like the largest external hard drive, the rampancy part of herself that escaped the nuclear blast was able to cure itself of said rampancy. But like I said before like multiple personality disorder, the part of Cortana that survived was one that seemingly clung to what the forerunners had to offer and their ways of policing the galaxy. She in essence became forerunner.... It was no longer the Cortana we knew and loved, she died saving chief. Think of it as a way for chief to continue his journey of self-reflection and now having to choose between the galaxies annihilation and the destroy something, although reminding him of Cortana was only soiling her good memory. She honestly became the biggest threat the Galaxy had ever seen next to the forerunners.

Totally honest opinion- I really tried to love Infinite… but I don’t. Once you’ve played one open world game you’ve played them all. And after a short honeymoon period, you realise this was just another formulaic open world game with collectible audio logs, pointless objectives and optional bosses instead of a fine tuned Halo game experience… I can’t remember any memorable set pieces, vehicle sections or moments that got me up in my seat. I think it speaks volumes when a simpler game from 2000 makes me feel more emotions than a cutting edge AAA 2021 game… I think infinite looks stunning and the art style is great but I wasn’t really attached to any characters, didn’t feel like the Banished were a real threat or very interesting. They didn’t compel me and after replaying the game twice, I still have no idea what they were doing while master chief went around destroying all of their little bases. The map felt empty and without character and the vehicle sandbox was non existant. I found the lack of flood and primordial a huge waste. There was such an amazing opportunity to have this massive story-driven Halo map, and up to a point you explore a seemingly harmless containment facility to end up releasing a flood outbreak with the remnants of the primordial. And since then, all map starts to change and new enemies spawn in all of the map facilities. Like vanished outposts have turned into a complete mess, like an all-out war between 3 factions: the vanished, the flood, and you. Those were my hopes when I read Halo Infinite was set in Zeta Halo: the comeback of the flood. This was honestly not only a huge disappointment, but also a waste by 343i and probably as close to a statement as we are going to get that they want to set the story appart from the past. I do have two concerns with the possible outcomes of the implementation of the Endless in future Halo projects 1. Gamplay-story disconnect: Their built up as a big threat, but they are a rather easy enemy type in actual gameplay. We don't know yet, but other games, both Halo and otherwise, have made this mistake. 2. I don't think 343 would do it, but I would hope that the endless are not made retroactively the "masterminds" of everything that has happened in the Halo universe. Every time I have seen a story do that, it feels like the "mastermind" antagonist(s) is basically going, "I meant to do that," as their plan hits a snag. That could just be my experiences. Maybe stories anyone else here has seen have done it well.

And the backstory on the Harbinger and Skimmers are very minimum, and would've love a little more story on them from the writers. I do wish to see other characters as well like Arbiter, the Infinity crew, Blue Team, etc. I'm personally ok with the Pilot and Weapon in Chief's story, but I would've love it to see more then just those three, not counting the Banished, Endless, and ForeRunner machines. The mystery was glossed over on the Ring's history and Flood containment facility and no terminals of some sort, aside the audio logs. It's not perfect, mind you but I understand 343 wanting to take the main campaign slow and steady for future DLC campaigns. But whatever is going on right now, they need to get their priorities in check.

“Retroactively increasing the stakes” is a perfect way to sum up what 343 is trying to do. Retconning only works well when there is either ambiguity present in the narrative’s history, or played as a direct plot point in the narrative at present. Not setting up some future “big bad” just for the sake of it.

Gameplay-wise, the campaign was great. But for atmosphere and all that for one of the most notorious Rings to ever exist, it was a major, significant disappointment. I do not like these new enemies, the Endless, as it just feels like something that shouldn't exist in the first place. 343 should have left Halo and the Halo Universe as it was and built it up from there. But instead, they cut a whole slew of content that would have made all us OG fans squeal with delight just for deadlines created by the money-milking company of Microsoft. And on the subject kf the Flood ever coming to Infinite via Campaign DLC, all of the gore, grotesque and terrifying aspects that makes the Flood a horrifying opponent, will be removed to make it more "child-friendly" and adhere to the T rating. I'm a very disappointed with 343 and how they handled the story and expanded universe of Halo. The franchise really should have ended at Halo Reach and let the fans do their own thing.

Also, Thank You for mentioning the slipspace travel time at the end. It has been pissing me off to world's end and back how people kept saying Chief time travelled, but the Pillar of Autumn fleeing Reach took 2 weeks to arrive at Alpha Halo. It was just a different version of the rings teleportation system grid, being that it's older. Not like Alpha Halo when Cortana or Guilty Spark transports Chief, but even then, some time in minutes or hours clearly passes with each portal Chief goes through.

The Pillar of Autumn took two weeks to arrive at Alpha Halo, because they were going incredibly fast, and could still feel the passage of time. Masterchief took three days to at most arrive on the other side of Halo, and didn't feel the effect. With the only one to notice was new Cortana with the "oh shit we made just time travelled" line commonly used in association with time travel.

I doubt I will get any positive reaction to this, but as a Lore fan I appreciate 343's attempts to escape the Flood. Im saying this as someone who was obsessed with the Flood as the kid, but the more I got older the more overdone they felt. They have been used 5 times now, and in the exact same way, we release them, they infect a lot of people, Humans blow something up to kill lots of them but they come back, rinse wash repeat. The Didact, the Created, and now the Endless has all been 343's attempts to escape and do something less repetitive. Also i dont want the Created to just die off in a book, that would make Halo 5 a massive waste. It was interesting on its own. There is SO MUCH they could have done with Human AI's having full control of Forerunner technology, they could have created things like the Engineers, reshape worlds, adapt Forerunner technology to stuff we have never imagine before, introduce Forerunner tech we have never seen...all that potential wasted. Im saying this as someone who used to hate Halo 5

They have so much potential for greatness and bringing some new a different perspective on halo that has never been seen before. For example, a story about a Kig-yar has never been done before (to my knowledge) and if we got a story about a T’vaoan Spartan Killer in the banished… it would be so awesome. I am disappointed in Halo Infinite’s campaign because all it is, is another Master Chief story. I wanted somethign different, something unique and fresh. I wanted variety. That is not what Halo Infinite was. But don’t get me wrong, it was a good story but, lacking to me. It had so much potential…

So I kind of love and hate the endless, the idea of a species capable of surviving the halo array… but when I thought about it if they can’t be killed by the halo rings they also can’t be infected by the flood as they must not have a nervous system to be be destroyed or infected. Basically ruined my theory that the flood could return as a threat or that the flood infecting the endless could be a disaster because it literally can’t happen. 343 NEEDS to find some way to make the flood dangerous again because their defeat by the banished made them seem so tame in wars 2. My biggest problem with the endless is their goal isn’t something I’m jumping out of my seat to stop, especially compared to a universe controlled by a living amalgamation of corpses it’s just not even close. hell for all we know the halo universe might actually of been held back by the forerunners because if the endless had their way they could actually defeat the flood for good with no consequences and the universe would be a lot safer? I don’t know it’s just weird they went in this direction and the more I think about it the more I love it and hate it.

I disagree. I DO think they would be able to take over an endless entity, There’s a big theory rn but basically it’s a certain element that destroys The nervous system so if THATS TRUE then the flood can absolutely take over one of them. No new factions, no flood, no infighting, a bland antagonist who just talked shit over a microphone like a coward, side characters like the red blade elite who had absolutely no character development or anything about him other then "hes badguy with red sword you fight later". It was just master chief shooting some covenant in repetitive looking areas and some repetitive ubisoft type side-objectives sprinkled in. Can't go back to the islet that houses the Tower or the Silent Auditorium. No lore cutscenes to showcase what's happened since Halo 5 and other characters. No silent cartographer. Whenever I read about how slipspace works in universe i've always gotten the impression that since slipspace is an alternate dimension the travel time in slipspace doesn't necessarily equate to real world travel time. For example: the pillar of autumn jump from reach was like a month for humans but only 2 weeks or something for the covenant because the covenant drive were more efficient, and yet they still arrive at relatively the same time. OR the examples of ships appearing at the destination before they've left the origin because they caught a slipspace "wave" and rode it through the dimension faster than if they were going "against the current." There's also the menachite crystals that a few others have mentioned, that actually brought chief and halsey through time. I think there's a lot of credence to the time travel theory and I don't think it should be dismissed quite so easily.

It felt like I was playing a subpar Combat Evolved. I'm hoping we get free dlc or at least an apology or explanation to what happened

The campaign was amazing but I feel like it will get better in time with dlcs I really hope they add the flood back to the main story I feel like they should of added more to the lore with the flood manicant bias I hope this stuff makes it in dlc I also want more bieoms in the game I can't wait for dlcs I'm excited for this games future I don't see arbiter being a book only character no way they would do that to many ppl like the arbiter I can see them maybe doing that with spartan Locke

I don’t think it was completely wasted potential, but it definitely feels like they cut out a decent chunk of the story they wanted to tell in order to get the game out in time. It feels like it’s setting something interesting up, but we’re still left up in the air on where things are going.

For sure. I loved it at first, but as time goes on I realize that was just because the classic Halo gameplay was brought back and expanded upon spectacularly. The story was a lot of nothing, the only good bits were Cortana's whisper sections.

You know I had a really fun time during the only time I played it . Never brought myself to deleting the data and starting over again. So far it’s been the only halo campaign I haven’t played more than 5x nonetheless once .. maybe in a year or two when they add co-op I’ll play it again

Was glad to see to see the Banished in the campaign, and regarding gameplay my only complaint is that we didn’t see more of the Banished’s vehicle arsenal, can you imagine using the Reaver to cross gaps across the ring? Or tormenting Banshees in the sky? Good shtuff.
