In this video we unbox our new Haimer digital 3-D sensor. We go through the operation of it and how to make it concentric. We then use it to tram in our orange vices. We hope this is beneficial to you and helps if you are looking at purchasing one of these 3D sensors. Be sure to let us know about your experience with the Haimer 3D sensors.

Great intro, I just got the same one! Fairly happy. Although I've been advised by the auth rep not to slide the ball on hard surfaces such as steel, that tool is meant to touch apparently. This is to prevent damage to the ball surface. In the case of squaring a vice I'd just use a dial indicator for instance... inexpensive and safer in a scenario where/when you displace the vice by hitting on it a greater distance than the sensor's max.

It does not surprise that they do not want the ball ran on a hard surface. It would probably make a difference if you did it everyday but we set vises up and leave them for months on end. If you use an indicator to do it your going to wear the tip on it so I guess it is a matter of what do you want to replace. We reserve our indicators for inspection only because we have them all certified and tips for the Hiamer are not that costly but I will keep an eye on the wear and for sure it is something to pay attention to. Thank you again for the comments and hope you enjoy the Hiamer. We have found it to work well so far.

I apologize for my very poor english speaking. No need to use a new collet if you never desasemble the chuck and the 3D taster ! Hello from France 🗼and good chips !

I do not use it as an indicator you will put flats on the ball

I have the same digital Haimer 3 D but the lithium battery is dead. . I tried to unscrew 2 little screws in front of it and pull it out . Battery is out half way but does not want to get out more. I spent hours to try to get it out but no way. Franck. From France.

We have not ran into this yet. I have been amazed how long the battery has lasted. I am sure we are due. I'll try to look it over and see what I can find out. If I find something useful I'll let you know.

can you use both inch and metric probes on one unit?
@RMBRacingInc
@RMBRacingInc 2 года назад
The probes interchange between all the models that Haimer offers. Hiamer only makes two probes that fit all of their units. The digital unit can measure in metric or inch.

@@RMBRacingInc I also own the same digital taster, for whatever reason I swear I heard you can only use the standard or metric probes depending on model, my model ends in IN so I wasn't sure! I did use a metric probe yesterday and it worked fine, so thanks for your answer! Also another thing my package shows 2.000 where yours shows 1.000, I'm curious if I'm using it wrong, haha.

@@PatientZeroBalisong Great to hear. Sorry for the delay on the repose. If we can be of any other help let us know.

You have to use the Metric Probes with the Metric Unit and the Inches Probes with the Inches Unit. But, no matter which Digital Haimer you have you can choose to display in Metric or Inches. If you use the wrong probe the offset for centering will be off. The Metric short probe is 4mm diameter and Inches short probe is .2" (5.08mm). The long probes are double the diameter of the short probes. There are a total of 4 probes that Haimer makes which are Long and Short Metric (For Metric Haimer's) and Long and Short Inches (For Inches Haimer's).

And NEVER use random torque pressure to lock a vice to the table, you'll potentially damage the table man. Ask your machine-tool mfg about the max torque, use a torque-wrench and go

Though it is not in the video we use torque wrench behind our little impact for everything but thank you for heads up.
