I am not black so I am not as informed on black hairstyles but I never understand that either. And I don't get why they are straightening the hair all the damn time. To me long braided hair looks almost the same because black people have so much hair that thinner braids(meaning not super super thick) look a lot like straight hair to me. One can also do almost every hairstyle with those, like complicatesd braids or ponytails. The only thing you can't do are loose curls but that's about it. So yeah I don't understand why they never give the models braids or other black hairstyles Edit by any means I don't think that black people need to have straight hair. But if they decide they want a girl to have the effect of straight hair for some styles I think braids would be the healthier option. Nonetheless more natural hairstyles should be considered as well. Don't get me wrong.

I don't know about the names of the acts and shit but it was in slavery time where most of the issues and shit we deal with today come from. Imma be short but white woman hated how black women's hair was naturally, the hairstyles and culture of it all were attractive to white men. They cried to their husbands, made a law against natural hair and black women showing their hair. And the only way to get into "acceptable" hairstyles most often damaged the fuck outta our hair.

I agree with everything except the "curvy" model bit-- Most "standard" models are around a size 2 (they have to be because that's what the runway clothes are sized in most of the time) and so Whitney at a size 12 or whatever is definitely a "plus size" model, according to the (very arbitrary) rules. She's actually size 16 now, and still looks good. Also even though I 100% agree and it's awful, they literally have to put up with that kind of sh*t in the industry, and Tyra is preparing them for it. (I've heard so many horror stories from models)

I agree but modeling basically makes you change your hair at the whim of designers/ photographers etc so I don’t think rocking natural hair would be realistic. Wearing a weave can allow them to be versatile and not damage their real hair

@@notky848 I think in the modelling industry natural hair, as it shouldn't really be exposed to as much heat styling, colouring, etc, as other types of hair for various reasons, putting in a weave is often a better idea. They've done afro-like weaves on the black women in this show before.

That’s not what modeling is about at all. Models have a knack for taking on looks that are completely DIFFERENT from what they look like on a normal day. Being a model is about versatility. Personally I don’t think just because we are black that we have to wear Afro centric hairstyles. Most black women in the entertainment industry can be seen wearing straight hair. If we look at the fashion industry it’s common place for models to wear hair extensions regardless of race. Personally I think Afros are cool but not mandatory lol. I actually prefer braids over Afros 🧐

Cordel White i get ur point and i’m not saying that we have to wear afro centric hair but the fact that they never seem to know how to do natural black irks my nerve and they continue to use the same type of styles over and over again. it’s getting old and there are plenty of diff hairstyles that they can use, if they tried. a lot of the times models are known for their natural looks, like little to no makeup because what they’re modeling is more important, ofc there are diff types of modeling where they can look completely diff and change up their look, but a lot of the times agencies look at ur natural state b4 they want to see a model glammed up and such. even so yea i like braids too, but they barely ever style braids on the show.

Cordel White you prefer braids over the natural hair that grows out of our hair? That’s fine. Do you but just know that You can absolutely be versatile with natural hair just like you can be versatile with white natural hair. That’s NOT an excuse for always perming, straightening, and always giving them weaves.
