As a black woman who has had her locs since 2019, I would just cut my hair all off and grow it back.The cosmetologist and certified natural hair specialist in me is screaming make a detangling mix! Water will shrink the hair back if you detangle with it alone. I have removed several of my clients locs in hours, not DAYS, HOURS with a mix that is mostly oil based. It is required to give slip to the hair and aid in detangling.

I used to have locks from 2016 to 2018 100% my hair no extensions, I did it myself and when I took them off with a crochet needle and a comb without anything else, I thought would be harder due to my C4 curls and the humongous amount of hair I have but it was relatively easy and was indeed surprised, I've been wanting to lock them again but at the same time I don't know if I want to spend 3 days locking my hair 🤣🤣 usually breading takes around 8-10 hours

My son had dreads for 8 years, they were down to his waist. He couldn't rest well at night anymore and would wake up with a knot in his neck. I told him to stop dreading the new growth, otherwise I'd have to almost shave his head. 3 months later we cut them off , he felt so much better he said he felt like he was floating. The dreads weighed 8.3 lbs. Great video Brad, love ya 💓

I’m white with wavy hair, but once I got really sick for a long time. I couldn’t get out of bed and would often just let water run over me in the shower and lay back in bed with wet hair. I got a huge nasty dreadlock like tangle in the back of my head. All the way to the scalp. The only place willing to even try detangling it instead of shaving it off was a salon for African hair. Even they said it was iffy. A woman from Kenya and an African American woman worked on my hair for 6 hours and managed to actually get it completely out. They weren’t even gonna charge me the whole 6 hrs but obviously I insisted. I couldn’t go back to that salon cause my hair type isn’t their specialty, but I’ll never forget how they refused to give up even when everyone else did.

Depends on your hair tripe for kinky curly hair conditioner really does help since our hair is naturally more dry and removing it dry it more likely to break it than doing it wet. Plus the conditioner helps loosen up the hair and actually avoids breakage and that’s why it was easier for her to removing the hair
@madeliner1682
@madeliner1682 7 месяцев назад
Straight hair is stronger dry, curly hair is stronger wet. Not 100% sure that's scientifically accurate but it sounds right lol At the very least, wet hair being more pliable helps the curly knots bend out of each other without breaking

@madeliner1682
@madeliner1682 7 месяцев назад
@@Angel-xu3ul every place a hair strand changes direction is a weak point and a place where the cuticle lifts and therefore is naturally more porous. This is why curly hair is by default more brittle than straight hair, and why it's a thousand times easier to avoid breakage when the hair bends first when force is applied as opposed to going straight to snapping off at a weak spot. Since curly hair is also very opinionated about where individual strands want to lay, water helps the knot clumps be more open to suggestion on a new arrangement instead of having to literally pull a single strand of hair out of the knot at a time only to end up with a hundred de-knotted hairs that all want to go in contradictory directions and therefore re-knot themselves every fifteen seconds anyway

@@madeliner1682 the last young lady did NOT use water. She used coconut oil with absorbs and continues to soften and loosen her curls. That is why is was easier. Also it looks like she used a latching method to maintain her hair, so removing them is easier for her.

As a black girl, my hair breaks easier when theres no form of moisture. What the last girl did was pretty smart, as always different race different hair, different do's and don't for certain things Edit: some of yall really trying to be smart. No two races have the same hair texture, not even those apart of the same race has the same texture. We had a black girl in school (in 'hip' terms, I'd call her a main-character) that had weaves with braids (a lot of braids) and she'd regularly spend a lot of money putting new ones in. We asked her to show her natural hair, which she was a bit hesitant to do, but there's not that much "taboo" (youknow, judgement) on natural hair in my country, so that was not the issue. She was just a bit unsure, she hadn't done that in a long time, she was afraid it wouldn't look nice. One day, she wasn't in class. We sat down and were about to start the class. Then, there was a knock on the door. We said; 'Come in!' and the door swept open, but nobody was there. We all looked and stared at the door, which is when she dramatically put her head around the side and said; 'Hey whatsup?!' and she had her natural hair, with a golden clip and a golden statement necklace and a leather jacket. She looked like a goddess in modern times. We all screamed and even the teacher was speechless. I remember how she was striding to her chair like a rockstair, leaned back and said; 'Touch it!' and we touched her hair and screamed at how soft it was. The whole day, she was surrounded by a group of girls that wanted to look at the teachers reacting to her new hairdo and her outfit. And later, she started experimenting with her natural hair and started putting clips or glitter-application-thingies in there, I'm not sure, but it looked very cool. I don't remember all of my classmates and many were awful, but Wendy, was really cool.

I will say that adding water and conditioner is more recommended for black and textured hair. Even finer 3b types will benefit from the slip of the conditioner. the issue of elasticity from water causing snapping may still be a consideration for chemically treated black hair but typically, coarser hair and the tighter curl patterns will break more from going in dry and pulling without any slip to loosen the curls from being joined together so tightly.

Locs are the natural state of all hair fibers that are not prevented from matting together. Literally anything with hair will get mats if the hair isn’t prevented from matting. Locs are guided matting. Hair texture may be relevant for the matting process, but absolutely irrelevant for anything regarding cleanliness or protective styles. Christina had them locks for so long. I remember watching her take them out and I was emotional about it. She used to be my favorite RU-vidr to watch. She had such a good wash routine on those and she took so much pride in them. However she’s still beautiful and thriving!

The second girl , who had the locks for five years .. should have done hair baths more often. letting those locs soak in a “bath” of apple cider vinegar + baking soda + warm water, let sit for 30 mins or so it cleans the locks . It helps remove all that dirt and stuff from the hair

Mixing vinegar and baking soda neutralizes both and negates any real effect . Dissolve the sodium bicarbonate and a bit of soap in hot water, throughly saturate and agitate the locs, let the soak to soften and emulsify all the oil, dirt and nonsense stuck in the mats, then rinse very very throughly, then throughly saturate the hair with the acidic solution to neutralize the soap and bicarbonate and rinse very thoroughly again. Chemistry is chemistry, and cleaning something with bubbly water won’t work nearly so well as an alkaline cleaner followed by an acidic rinse.

Oh yea, washing dreads is a whole thing. First, I wet my dreads, used a residue free shampoo on my scalp, rinsed thoroughly squeezing my dreads like a sponge. I then rinsed with apple cider vinegar. It's been like 13 years since I had dreads, so I'm sure there's better products out now but the cider vinegar was crucial to remove any buildup inside the dreads. The most important thing is drying your dreads!! As soon as possible! It takes ages for dreads to dry and they need to dry inside. I sat out in the sun and used a hair dryer.

Wow...the 2nd woman with possible mold in her locs! Yikes! That can happen if you're not cleaning your locs properly and most importantly, not letting them dry completely. Locs take forever to dry and you gotta make sure they're dry inside (use a hair dryer or sit under a dryer) the locs not just feeling dry on the outside. Leaving them damp inside for too long will encourage mold growth and other nasties.

I had waist length hair when I got my locs, and when I removed/untangled them a couple years later I was left with shoulder length hair, from the breakage, so to get rid of the uneven and split ends, I ended up going short for the first time in over a decade, and it was a lot of fun. Don't regret having the locs, don't regret removing them. Hair can be fun if you're willing to play with it. Worst case, you shave it off and start over.

I had one dread for 8.5 years and it started as a hair wrap on my naturally curl hair. I cut the wrap extension off and gradually spent an hour unlocking the hair. It was the longest my hair ever saw. To deal with the damage, I did a big chop and no more locs ever. My hair naturally locs up but I do CG and avoid brushes. Dentangler and leave in conditioners are saving my hair, especially after Thyroiditis thinning. Brad, we need Curly/coily X Mondo! We do not want to smell like coconut anymore please!!!!❤
