CREOLE v. AMHARIC !!!! As you all know, Tam is Ethiopian & I am Haitian. We wanted to teach each other some common words known in each of our languages. It was also awesome to have our daughter learn some of the language as well since we mainly speak english.
Haitian creole is a mixture of many languages due to slavery & Ethiopian Amharic is a semetic language branching from the Arabic family.

I am an African American and I am in a relationship with an Ethiopian Man. He is sweet, respectful and the most positive man I have ever met. Sometimes it is hard to understand him but he is so patient with me. I am trying to learn his language, was it hard for you?

You are welcome in your fam(ethiopians). Feel free to learn the language as it is yours. Everything in Africa is yours to take and embrace. I wish you have a lots of kids. Tell the brother y'mech'h. Make the last H heard. And it means like - have a good one. For ladies as they were explaining in the video you change the H to Sh and so, I say to you my lady sister, Y'mech'sh. One

Good looking family. Haiti and Ethiopia have a lot in common among which is the fact that both were able to defeat their formidable European enemies. Ethiopia and Haiti were victorious over Italian fascist and French colonial/plantation masters respectively. Ironically, both countries remain the most impoverished among nations, which in itself had to do with that historical fact. Please keep teaching your kids both languages. They will cherish it and be grateful to you all, the parents.

Yea, for example in Cabo Verde they speak Creole. Its like a Pigen, ibonix, ect. . .

Ok, I would say Pathwa, Ibonix may not have put roots, while Creole di Haiti and Caboverde they became nationale . . .yet still all have the same caratteristics, I feel. They all have taken and addapted to them selves an european language in which they could naturally keep their essence (culturally I mean). Now you are telling me that Haiti and Cabo Verde, n they happend to call their ("broken") language both creole also btw, are they the only states that have the language as an ufficial language? And then you are right, the Pathwas and Pigen of Africa also did the same thing in reality, like they took an EU language and they addapted it to their cultural being. But on the other hand you say they, may for the most, speak also their ancestral language. And you are right. But, that doesn't make any difference I feel, the language has taken the same king of path. Or may be I didn't get you right?

I like your approach to learning each other's language. I am an Ethiopian and an Amharic teacher. I speak English and French, and hence I enjoyed your Creole!! As a teacher, let me advise you that teach your children both languages. You can see how your cute girl was picking up the words she hears from you both.

what a lovely couple! Quick question to the wife, do you've gender specific grammar as well in creole? We also have in Amaharic formal and informal way of addressing people. like 'ante' for a younger man but 'antu' for the older or to the distinguished to be formal. I can say the same thing in French 'Tu' and 'Vous'. is it the same in Creole?

That is so true ! I noticed people saying “ante” a lot in Ethiopia . We don’t really have a specific grammar for male and female . Creole is a bit rooted from French so the “tu” and “vous” still apply

Only African language that has many Arabic loan words is Swahili. Which is spoken in many East African countries. Mainly Kenya and Tanzania.

wap konn Jòj is a reference to Hurricane George that devastated Haiti countryside, mudslide, power outage & was responsible for killing thousand of Haitians it was the biggest catastrophe in the country prior to the 2010 earthquake, during Hurricane George Haitians thought it was the end of the world we say wap konn Jòj because of the hurricane that killed thousand of Haitians btw I'm Haitian marry to a Nilotic-Dinka woman from South Sudan she's the same height as me 6:3 LOL

Ethiopian Alphabets (ኣልፋቤት) have vowels and they are: አ ኡ ኢ ኣ ኤ እ ኦ። ኣናባቢ ሲባሉ፤ የተቀሩት ደግሞ ተናባቢ ይባላሉ።

በተለምዶ በኣማርኛ ትምህርት «አ»ንና «ኣ»ን በተጨማሪም «ሀ»ንና «ሃ»ን ኣንድ ኣይነት ድምጽ እንዳላቸው ሆኖ ነበር የተማርነው። ነገር ግን ትክክል ኣይደለም። የ«አ»ንንና የ«ሀ» ትክክለኛውን ድምጾቻቸውን ለማወቅ የሌሎቹን ተነባቢያን የመጀመሪያ ፊደሎችን (ግዕዞችን) ይመርምሩ።
