Imagine the psychological pressure on the challenger. Here he is about to have the most important fight of his life, against the undefeated champion who has never lost a fight,a monster unlike any in the whole country. Then you start hearing rumours that the dude killed a bear with his bare hands. Affter seeing the bear skin you believe the rumours to be part of a prank. Just as you are about to sigh in relief you see the *HUGE CLAW MARKS* while the champion just stares at you like you are an insect.
Puts a whole new perspective on "If you see me fighting a bear, you better help that poor bear." Would you want to fight any kind of fight with a guy that honestly looks like he took out an actual bear? Cuz I wouldn't. I'd be psyched out, too, lol. Then he goes and beats the dude with nothing but his left.
"A man who rules with his left, rules the world." I didn't notice this until ages later, but the way that opponent collapsed made it look like he was bowing. Fucking perfect.
"A man who rules with his left, rules the world." I really love this quote. The way I understand it is, it's not necessarily talking about boxing, but the world in general. If you can command power without having to use your true strength, like Takamura's straight right in the show, you are near undefeatable. By making all of your attributes sharp instead of just one, you can indeed rule the world.
Later chapters in the retirement arc delved into this further - a left can be anything, it all depends on how to use it, and how you use it more or less determines victory or defeat
@@powahfulgameplayer tbf, the threat is still there compared to his hand actually being tied. That's like an opponent being outboxed by Khabib cause he prepared for a wrestling match and not a striking match, kinda explains the reason Conor got dropped by an overhand. Or even with other sports, it's like cutting someone's arm off in football because it's illegal to use hands anyway 😂
I haven't seen many comments regarding the animation quality, but I think Ippo's animation is completely unbelievable considering that the production was done far far before computer graphics and motion capturing came along.
Back in the day of cel animation the animators were also educated in technical studies of whatever like motion, martial arts ect to get the detail and accuracy (same sort of applies to mangakas). I feel like thats it getting lost now that we rely more and more on computers to do that.
Him and Ricardo Martinez were the only two boxers in the show that could box both orthodox and brawler styles at the highest level. Too bad they would never face off. Would love to see them spar at least once before the series end though. Martinez is still a little bit more dominant than Takamura in his class, since most of his title matches were won without him using his natural style even. That man don't even break a sweat against average challengers.
@@soulawaken24 Takamura would kill Martinez in a fight. The reason Takamura has more difficulty in his title matches is because he is always fighting in a lower weight class.Leading to him having to lose significant weight and power as well as suffering for months. Unlike Martinez who is fighting in his natural weight.
Nekota: "a man who rules with his left rules the world." Ippo: "sounds legit." Ippo 1000 chapters later: *uses dempsey roll so much he forgot how to throw jabs*
@@remyhavoc4463 haha the more the merrier. I hope you *spoiler* ... dont lose your enthusiasm over the years when you start to feel the soul crushing contrivances morikawa sensei comes up with to prevent ippo and miyata from ever fighting again.
just like ricardo martinez vs ippo (practise match) ricardo owned ippo by his left truly both this beast are champions ....A man who rules with his left, rules the world!!
It’s a shame that Takamura and Ricardo probably won’t ever face off, given how hard it was for Takamura to drop even to Jr. Middleweight to fight Hawk, let alone down to featherweight. I’d love to see that fight.
@@chiefcleve1834 I’d honestly love to see that, especially considering that unlike most higher-weight-class boxers, Takamura actually has speed that can compete with featherweights 😆 and I know that in the manga he’s basically stolen the hitman style off of Bison, so he’s got a way to make the most of his reach and stay completely away from Ricardo. Might let Ricardo have a good fight 😆
Everytime I watch nearly any Takamura fight, I can't help but cheer him on lmao even rewatching doesn't help!! He's top damn amazing not to go om thay contagious cheer! TA-KA-MU-RA! TA-KA-MU-RA! lmao
I have watched this series 3 times already but i pretty sure this the most realistic best anime out there. So much technical correct. The writter has definitely spent countless hrs of hardwork which makes unique. I feel pumped after watching this. And man that guitar music.. 🤩🤩🤩
I suppose if you ignore that Takamura once punched a bear or the amount of head trauma Ippos takes on a regular basis It has plenty of actual boxing involved but acting like the boxing is overly realistic is a bit silly This series is to boxing as prince of tennis is to tennis
@@bluescluessuperagent well duh, it's anime/manga. He needs over dramatize things to keep readers entertained but also to show differences between normal punches, special punches, and signature moves.
@@heroesnation782 ...did I say it's a bad thing? OP comment was just bring up the shows "realism" lol While this anime/manga def talks about actual boxing techniques and training etc etc. it's def more like Rocky boxing, Ippo blocks with his face lol.
@@bluescluessuperagent ippo blocking hits with his face was the reason he got punch drunk i think hajime no ippo is definitely one of the most realistic manga Ever
@@JustAsh001 except he's probably not actually punch drunk, and will go back to fighting. AND he should have gotten punch drunk age ago. The manga is NOT realistic. Sure it's got plenty of real boxing terminology and strategy, but they be using anime movies.
it is a combination of crisp comedy, hard work, learning new skills at every step and never loosing hope with some crazy boxing matches and a lot of information about boxing. that's why
For me, it's because this is real. I mean the anime does exaggerate some stuff, but one actually can learn all those moves, become a pro boxer and fight to the end. I'm endlessly inspired to pick up boxing
"A man who rules with his left, rules the world." I guess people don't fully grasp what this quote means or how amazing Takamura is for doing this In order to beat someone using only your left in boxing means your fundamentals are on point. He's literally fighting with one arm tied behind his back, by doing that he has made himself very predictable because now his opponent knows which arm will be used, he also nerfed himself of his own power. That means in the fight, Takamura demonstrated complete mastery of - distance control - blocking - head movement - body movement - ability to read an opponent - counter punching - timing We forget but his opponent was a top 5 world ranker, the equivalent of all the other main characters in terms of skill like Mashiba, Sendo, Miyata, and Ippo and Takamura just took this guy down in the first round without getting hit once. The implications of this quote does come up again as in the second season when Ippo spars Ricardo, Ricardo only uses his left and knocks Ippo out, whereas Date who spars Miyata win but uses his right at the very end, hinting at the fact that Date is not on the same level as Ricardo coming into the fight.
I love how much of a prick Takamura is knowing he won't get told off by Kamogawa. Takamura is genuinely the heart and soul of Hajime no Ippo, more so than Ippo himself.
The funny thing is, this kind of behavior is usually done by villains to make the audience both know he's powerful and overconfident, so the audience wishes him to lose. Basically if the other guy was the good guy, he'd rise up and manage to slowly make his way to the final round and then win.
I can't wait to see Dempsey 3.0 animated. Honestly, something like that would give even the best counter punchers the most trouble. Since counters are all about timing, and getting the angle down, but with the Dempsey 3.0, it's a barrage of endless punches from any angle, and he can initiated from any range. Crazy stuff. Ippo is gonna be a monster when he get's back in the ring.
I just realized... Takamura's fighting style is based around Mike Tyson at the beggining of his career, before he started to be under Don King's management. A deadly punch, counters, and excellent dodging. After Tyson fiered Kevin Rooney as a trainer, he stopped being a fast dodger and started just getting punched all the time. Sure, he was still Mike Tyson, one punch from him would end you, but not being a good dodger anymore is what caused his career to start spiraling down.
Worst part about this anime is that I discovered in 2023, truly wish I had found it sooner, most hype anime imho; currently reading it, picked it up at the Taka Eagle fight
The moment you realized Takamura never even ONCE threw a right straight at a Human Being through the entire anime because the coach placed that unwritten restriction on him. The feels.....
@@remyhavoc4463 He still parries with his right and he pushes with it, but he never actually does damage with his right until his world championship fight. It's what made him so famous that he was even given a shot at a world title.
@@7F0X7 What? His right straight was well known as his finisher, they even mention that in this very video. In fact why would they make a big deal out of him using only his left in this video if that's what he did in every fight before this? He finished his debut match with a right...
This show did such a good job of portraying how majority of boxing or fight fans are. Fighters like Kobashi, Mayweather get shit on only because they don’t go gung-ho in their approach and brawl like wild animals in the centre of the ring and use their brains to win fights instead.
Funny thing is when Takamura went wild animal mode during Bryan Hawk match he still fought with the boxing fundamentals he trained with to pinpoint accuracy unconciously, just in a more aggressive, unpredictable way.
I like that this anime works within the realm of realism. Of course it is over the top, but not like character can destroy planets and reverse time. This make the series to rely on narratives and character development. Takamura is the only character able to pull a Deus ex machina because is the ideal boxer, the strongest character of the series.
And the reason it works within reality is because the mangaka not only likes boxing but actually OWNS A BOXING GYM. So yeah, the mangaka knows how to portray boxing within realism.
