Hi! It’s me again. I have watched this tutorial a few times until it all sunk in. Today we’ll do a sample like yours…and then it’s off to the races with the gorgeous Hide Tide + Flamingo Linen Quill. Thank you ever so much for providing clear, no nonsense instructions. ❤
I jumped in to making this wrap not long ago using this video. I come back now to start my second color. Thanks for holding my hand to do this!! You rock!!
Thank you for demonstrating this...I always get confused when converting patterns from W&T to GSR. While making a practice swatch, it dawned on me that you don’t really need the stitch marker because the GSR stitches are pretty obvious. In the first color, you knit up to the GSR “double” stitch, turn, pull yarn up and over, knit to the end of the row. In the second color, you knit to the GSR double stitch, resolve that stitch, knit one more, turn, pull yarn up and over, knit to the end of the row.
thanks for this tutorial only when resolving the short rows after the fiirst colour i don't use the second colour but do it with the first colour and then change colour. i think it is a bit nicer.
As a novice knitter I was apprehensive to join in on this pattern~ I received my yarn going to watch your very helpful tutorial as many times as needed~ my dream is to be standing with all of the other makers at Rhinebeck ~ 💐 I really appreciate your time for showing ~
Thank you so much for this most brilliant of explanations for converting the pattern to GSR: I could not grasp how to do this and almost gave up. I now feel able to tackle it, and you pointing out that most of the knitting is just garter, is so wonderful!!
Super clear and very helpful - thanks, Jackie! I’m just about to complete the first half of my wrap and will be starting on my next colour soon. So excited to see how the two colours begin to play with each other.
Hi I am a newbie to your podcast, I am so happy to be here learning to make the half and half shawl so lovely. I will get the pattern and yarn so i can start doing it. I knit crochet and quilt. Thank you for having me. Happy knitting everyone. Namaste.😘💖
Thank you so much for showing us how to do this . I am a beginner knitter and I really wanted to make the half and half triangle wrap . I was very nice of you to help with this .
Thanks for this tutorial ,your short rows are so much easier to do & this helps really helps to understand the steps. The german short rows are less confusing and now I'm looking forward to starting the shawl 👍
Thank you for showing me this. I had to unravel what I had already knitted, but I would rather have it rightly done. I love your podcast I love your wibe 🤩 kind regards Tone
This helped me so much! I’ve been putting off buying my yarn but finally gave in a few days ago when Purl Soho had a sale on the yarn. I got it today and immediately cast on. As I was casting on, I literally took this deep breath that felt very cleansing. I knew then that this is just what I need for right now in my life! Thank you❤️
I was watching another podcast today and she is on her 4th of these wraps she said to check out this tutorial. Thank you for this! Totally casting this on now :)
Semi beginner here…thank you for this tutorial. Just a quick question… So once the marker moves over to the other side is that when I change color with 2 left ?
Thanks, Jackie, for taking the time to make this tutorial - it was so helpful! It took the stress right out of wondering if I could convert from W&T to GSR's.
Thanks so much Cady for showing us that wrap in a much easier way!! That’s really awesome 😃👍😍 I don’t like wrap and turns and much more prefer the GSR but get confused how to convert a pattern 🤦🏻♀️
Jackie, you are a gem. I've been trying to make this wrap since I watched your podcast but the w&t's were so confusing and even the Purl Soho demo didn't show it properly, but you have simplified it and made it so easy to understand. I'm in Australia and ordered the Linen Quill from the US and finally received it. Tragically, I have just lost my 33 year old son and had lots of family around and this shawl is something I can work on while they are all here. Great work 😘😘😘
Oh Donna, that you have found some comfort at all… I am so, so sorry. I can tell you as I work on my 5th one, I often sink into a peace knitting these shawls, observing a connection I feel with women around the world, who like you, like me, are just doing the best they know how. I’m so glad you’re on your way, and your hands are full, as your heart does its slow slow work. Sending love.
Oh Donna, I just read your post this Sunday morning and my heart goes out to you. I am also just beginning my shawl and needed to watch this video One more time! I'm going to start it today and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as I work on it throughout the day. May you be Blessed with many peaceful, comforting hours of knitting.
“As your heart does it’s slow slow work”- so beautifully spoken. Sitting here on my couch this morning with my next color ready to join, I am feeling your mother heart, sending care to you.
Dear Jackie, your tutorial on the half and half triangle helped so much. I think that purl soho could have given better instructions even though I realize it is a free pattern. I had ordered 12 skeins from purl soho and was regretting it but now I am moving along on my first triangle thanks to you! 👍👍🌸
twelve skeins of linen quill is my kind of problem! 😘😉 I know you can trade them in. you know I’m completely obsessed with this yarn and pattern, I won’t say how much LQ I have 🙈 but it’s a lot. glad this helped. Purl Soho makes amazing instructional videos, I use them all the time. glad to help in this case here. Best!
GSR works great thanks for the video. However, I did notice that the pattern has you resolve the short rows with color A and you did it with color B. Does it matter and did you change it for a specific purpose? Thanks
The pattern works both ways, but it does change the direction of the garter ridges between colors! If you omit the final row of Triangle 1, like in the video, this essentially flips the right and wrong sides of the wrap and causes the short rows for Triangle 2 to begin at the opposite corner and the garter ridges to run perpendicular. If you follow the pattern as written though, then your ridges will be parallel!
I'm making half and half in dk and cast on 120 stitches on size 3 circular . I had not idea how to do the conversion from the linen quill 190 stitches for the small version to the dk silk wool and cotton blend 120 stitches
Hello, thank you for this tutorial. i have a question please, why is it necessary to put a stichmarker every 26 stiches? thank you and greatings from germany
You have referenced "yesterdays video" a few times, where can that be found? I'm not understanding why the pattern implies to resolve the wraps while still using the first color, you've chosen to resolve the wrapped stitches with the next color. that's had me a little stumped, but I'm thinking it was just a preference?
that was on our IG “tips” - German short rows are just my preference, the pattern is written with wrap & turn short rows. I resolve all the short rows of the first color at the end of the first half; and as I go on the second half.
Thank you for this tutorial! I notice that the rows for one triangle are perpendicular to the other, whereas the rows in the original pattern are parallel. Do you know why this is?
I’m wondering the same thing! How would we start the second color if we wanted all garter stitches to run in the same direction, and not have half the shawl running perpendicular to the other half? If anyone can answer this question, thank you!
It looks like in this video, the final row of Triangle 1 is omitted, and the double stitches are knit with the new color on Row 1 of Triangle 2. This essentially flips the right and wrong sides of the wrap and causes the short rows for Triangle 2 to begin at the opposite corner and the garter ridges to run perpendicular. If you follow the pattern as written, then your ridges will be parallel!
Where is the best place to join a new skein, especially since this is reversible. I joined at the edge, but it's not as smooth as I'd like unless I crochet the edges. Advice?
I am almost finished my first triangle using GSR. Could you please write Out the end of this and the beginning of the next triangle using GSR? I sure don’t want to Goof this up after so much work. A delightful pattern! Thank you.
Thnku for this demo ❤️ I had jus frogged all my knitting W+turn stitches an was abt to give up 😢 jus came across ur video and have started again an it’s sooo much easier. Plz cud u show how u binded off too as I hav done exactly like u with 2 stitches at both ends. I’m also jus binge watching ur podcast an will deffo join ur KAL on Ravelry ❤️ I’m in uk an cudnt buy purl soho yarn so jus using WYS sock yarn ❤️ plz can I ask wer u bought ur hexagon stitch markers from and wat brand name is it?
I am having trouble with the 2nd half (increasing)...do you know of a tutorial for English knitters? I used a google search without success. Thank you.
Follow Stress Knits on RU-vid, she’s developing a new and probably improved video. I dashed this one off for a friend ages ago. It definitely could be better.
Hi Jackie! I am finally ready to begin my second triangle- my question is- if I did the wrap and turn the Purl Soho pattern called for on the first triangle, could I do the German wrap and turn for the second? Seems so much more efficient this way! I was already well into my wrap when I first viewed this video but wanted to check before I start! Thanks so much!
Hi, I’m sorry, I don’t know your name Whilst I understand the wrap part, in the pattern it says to knit to the last threee stitches, you say for German short rows to knit to the last two stitches, my question is which do I follow and what happens to the stitches that are not knitted once the wrap is completed? I also want to slip the last stitch to make a smooth edge and I’m wondering what happens in the far distant future when I get to that last stitch . Have all this beautiful yarn and everyone saying how simple it is and what a calm knit it is and I’m at the wrap end of the second row and having a whisky… don’t know if you read this as it’s November 2022! Thanks very much in case you do.
I don’t wrap the two on either ends - not right or wrong, just personal preference. On second half, if you’re doing applied I-cord edge, you do that on left-side of work (bring yarn to front) amidst the wraps section (making and resolving them) as you go. It is the opposite of beginning - where those two things took place on opposite ends and all short rows were resolved at once at end.
@@jdominirose thank you so much for replying so promptly! I’ve never done this stuff before! I’m not doing an applied cord just slipping last two knit stitches to make a neat edge. That I do know how to do! I figure I’ve got a long way to go before I have to worry about the second colour…you might be seeing another whiny message from me later. If covid allows it my best friend and great knitter might be staying by then! Thank you again Jackie..I can only improve! Diana🤗😳❤️
Hello Jackie…I’m doing as you suggested in your RU-vid and that is to knit to the last 3 stitches, leaving 2 which are never GSR. That confused me leaving the 2 stitches and not making them GSR., So do I just continue on and those 2 stitches are resolved as knit stitches at the end of resolving all the others? Please and thank you for your help❤️
Just be consistent. If you start with two unwrapped stitches, then end with two unwrapped stitches. The beauty of this wrap is that it’s very forgiving.
I am struggling with the pattern. I see that you use GSR... but within the pattern “Row 5 says”, K1 pm.. knit to end. I see in your beautiful video that you do not use a K1, you have “double stitches “ to the Rt of M.... do you not use the K1 in place of the GSRow vs. the “ short row “ technique? Ugh.... trying to find a answer is killing me... I just want to knit and trust pattern, but having trouble with Row5.... any all help would be grateful... Ravelry thread hasn’t any answer. Thank you so so much in advance if you can....😀
@@Cadyjaxknits ohhh thank you so much. I think I have it. ( dm is not in my wheelhouse, our kids are not around to help me with IG). The pattern I think is written as “ row 5 - K1 PM, Knit to end of row”. I hope I figured this out..... With using a W&T the verbiage within must be correct.... however since I am using GSR... following your video.... I will be seeing... Double stitches, then PM. The K1 will not be used. ( as per written pattern). Your video is great.... and when your 10 stitches are used and your row is ended..( it shows...2 K stitches on both ends with 6 double stitches ( or 6 GSR)... hope I am conveying this with coherence). Your kindness means so much to me. Thank you for returning to me so soon. So sweet of you. Be well... take care.
Do you know anyone following the wrp-t instructions as in the pattern? I tried and the stitch looks long after I knit the ws ie K to marker, remove marker, wrp-t. The wrp-t is on the stitch previously knitted before placing the marker on the rs. I would like to compare stitch. Thank you in advance and for showing alternative stitch to wrp-t.
Thank you! An interesting mistake I made. After joining the 2nd color and resolving the GSRs, I went right into the short rows of the 2nd color. This resulted in garter rows of both colors moving in the same direction. I’ll do a second swatch to determine my preference.
I noticed your comment and was wondering your preference. I actually want my triangles to go in the same direction. I want a gradient look instead of the color block.
It sounds like you actually followed the pattern as written, so definitely not a mistake! It looks like in this video, the final row of Triangle 1 is omitted, and the double stitches are knit with the new color on Row 1 of Triangle 2. This essentially flips the right and wrong sides of the wrap and causes the short rows for Triangle 2 to begin at the opposite corner and the garter ridges to run perpendicular instead of parallel.
