Hello!
Welcome to Edible Thoughts Makes. My name is Stephanie (she/her).
The Half + Half Triangles Wrap is a free pattern by Purl Soho. This tutorial is a “mini” version of the wrap with tips and modifications based on how I knit this project. There are also many comments in the original pattern comments section on Purl Soho’s website (linked below) that you may find helpful (answered by Purl Soho staff).
Note that there are other tutorials out there that may be different. Here, the garter ridges run parallel, not perpendicular. The first set of double stitches from color 1 are resolved with color 1 (not color 2) as written in the original pattern.
If HD-viewing 1080p or 720p is an option, select that for best resolution.
Closed captioning and video descriptions are included for accessibility (choose the non-auto-generated option).
Cheers!
Stephanie

Just fabulous. I am saving this in my library. You voice, speed and style of imparting is superb. Really. This demonstration de-mystifies and creates kind encouragement. I am grateful. I am traveling and when home I plan to cake up-cast on. I just am so happy. ( I did a small version but the 2nd color was with such frustration…. I read and re-read… watched videos. I just had hard time. I am a knitter who always proof-reads prior to cast on with a pattern and try to visualize however this was just a stumbling block). Not anymore…thank you so much for this. 🥰

Thank you so much Stephanie for this very clear instruction video. I have started my first Half + Half Triangles Wrap . I decided to slip two stitches on the edge instead of the one as you have. ( I think you used 3 slipped stitches on the first half of your first one then changed to two slipped stitches) My question is ….. what do I do on the edge of first triangle on the last row, and then when I start the second triangle ? Do I leave out the last g.s.r and just slip the two stitches at the end? ( I hope this makes sense) Many thanks, Bonnie
@EdibleThoughtsMakes
@EdibleThoughtsMakes Год назад
You're welcome Bonnie! I recommend knitting a small swatch and see what makes sense to you. You are correct, I've done a 3 slipped st edge, a 2 slipped st edge, and a 1slipped st edge lol. I think you're correct (and yes, after knitting so many, I might not have it all memorized to write out since that part is only done once per project! lol). On your last row of the 1st triangle, after knitting that last double stitch on the WS, there should be 2 single sts remaining. Slip those last 2 sts. Cut Color A, join Color B and knit across all sts. You should end up with slipped st edges on opposite sides of your finished project and the cast on and bind off edges should also be on opposite sides.
@bonnieflint3431
@bonnieflint3431 Год назад
Thanks so much Stephanie. I will try a small swatch. Thanks also for confirming my thoughts to slip those last two stitches. I’m a huge fan of yours and all that you make and your beautiful colour choices. I watch many knitting podcasts but yours is my favourite. 😊 Wishing you and your family all the best for a great 2023. Do you add an extra stitch to the pattern number for the slip stitch? I was planning on slipping the last 3 stitches. I’m wondering if I need to add those three extract stitches to the pattern cast on number. Thank you❤

Nope I don’t. You could if you wanted to add as many stitches as you like!

For the half and half wrap how many sets did you cast on or did you follow the pattern exactly? How big did yours turn out? I love your color choices!

I recommend checking out the videos I have done on those projects in the past so you can get the full details. Links to the episodes and Ravelry project pages are in the description box. Because the projects are garter, they're pretty stretchy and can block out to varying dimensions that aren't very exact. Thank you!

@@EdibleThoughtsMakes I was just wondering how big they turned out so I could determine which length of needle I would need to buy. Do you recommend a certain length? 40" or 47" ?
@EdibleThoughtsMakes
@EdibleThoughtsMakes 2 года назад
@@hilaritysmailbox580 that's personal preference! I used 40" and don't find it too bunchy but some people prefer more room and use 47".
@vivianpowell1732
@vivianpowell1732 2 года назад
@@hilaritysmailbox580 My preferred needle for this project is the FIXED ChiaoGoo Size 3, 47" Red Lace Circular needle. Although I have a ChiaoGoo interchangeable needle set, I believe that a fixed needle is the more secure choice because of the size and weight of this wrap. You don't want to worry about the join of an IC needle coming loose in the middle of this project and creating a disaster. When I first began my wrap I was using the 40" length ChiaoGoo fixed needle, and eventually the work began bunching. I knew that would only get more annoying as the wrap got larger. So I switched to the 47" length, and the work glides along smoothly with a very good fit and no bunching. Hope this helps.
@TrudySchwartzBurrill
@TrudySchwartzBurrill 2 года назад
The only thing I’m not clear on is why your garter runs parallel. Is it because you resolve short row immediately? Or is that how it reads I haven’t read entire pattern. I do GRS when I knit something that needs short rows as well. Thanks great tutorial.
@EdibleThoughtsMakes
@EdibleThoughtsMakes 2 года назад
I recommend reading the pattern! It’s how the pattern is written. Comments below the pattern on Purl Soho’s pattern from Purl Soho representatives say it runs parallel as well.
@barbararadzeviciusbondi4150
In this method of decreasing, is it knitting 2 sts tog, 3 sts from the end of row? Thanks for reading this
@EdibleThoughtsMakes
@EdibleThoughtsMakes Год назад
There is no decreasing!
@EdibleThoughtsMakes
@EdibleThoughtsMakes Год назад
The shaping is done using short rows. The number of stitches in the needles is the same throughout the project. It’s the number of stitches you’re actively working that changes due to the short row method.
