I love your excitement for this wrap! I'm just starting one with Pink Pop and Dark Iris, and your tutorial was really helpful. I'm a bit worried about how tedious it will get towards the end, but I'll have to revisit this video for extra motivation!

Thank you, Stacy, for mentioning that you don't do video tutorials per se. I think it's important to make that distinction between sharing your opinions and tips, and offering a step-by step video tutorial. Given the fact that the Half+Half Triangles wrap pattern has become wildly popular, I would love to see someone with a good close-up camera do a video tutorial devoted solely to that pattern from start to finish. Obviously it would be a help to a lot of knitters to see precisely how to do the wrap-and-turns and how to remove the wraps on this particular project, which is worked in garter stitch. There could even be a segment on substituting German Short Rows for the wrap-and-turn instructions. I have spent so much time going on a scavenger hunt on RU-vid, trying to find the precise videos for the help I needed on the HHT wrap. So many of them are geared to projects worked in stockinette stitch rather than in garter stitch, and that got confusing in this case.

I visit this wonderful video every few months as a refresher course because I've always got a H+HTW in progress. Neon colors are very popular now and you mention some in this video. Super Orange and Bright Flamingo, for example. Linen Quill neons look wonderful paired with a neutral like Pale Mushroom or Stonewall Gray. I'm knitting one now in Bright Flamingo paired with Peach Stone. I lost months of knitting time following a fall and orthopedic surgery a year ago, so I'm slowly catching up with my dormant projects.

It is so interesting what is relaxing to each knitter. I find comfort in non stop vanilla socks which I know many do not like. This wrap with the big cast on and the short rows sounds super stressful to me. Glad you found a project that calms you.

I am Lisa but it’s OK! Just ordered my yarn! Quick question for you - do you know if there is a video tutorial on this (besides the wrap and turn technique)? In looking ahead at the pattern directions I see several rows that say K but I feel like I have heard you say in one of your videos that every stitch is a wrap and turn. Maybe I am not reading the pattern correctly? So, yes, if you know of a more in-depth tutorial out there if you wouldn’t mind sharing it. Thanks and appreciate your channel!

@@lisaklescewski2904 Oh goodness Lisa I'm so sorry! That's what I get for trying to answer early in the morning I completely skipped the word "with". This was so fun, Stacy. And I have to say, I am so jealous of your truly fabulous Linen Quill collection!! The colours are all just so good, aren't they? It's impossible to make a "bad" pairing, I think. I knitted 1 of my Half & Halfs in Linen Quill using the Bright Flamingo and Turmeric Yellow, and I'm currently knitting one for my daughter using Holst Garn Supersoft in Sloe and Robin's Egg - like a deep deep purple and a gorgeous warm aqua with raspberry fibres through it. My first was in the supersoft, and it's really quite a different experience to knit with compared to the Linen Quill. Certainly not as soft, and not as bouncy either, but makes a lovely light and warm fabric when it's done. Got my eye on some more Linen Quill for the future tho... I'm thinking Lychee Pink and Vintage Celadon - those colours would be perfect for my mum.

Hi, Stacy….I have two quick questions for you…I hope you can help me. I bought Linen Quill for a Half and Half Triangle Wrap. The yarn I picked out to start with is Heirloom White. Do you have any idea what the base color leans toward….a warm or cool base? I also wondered if it’s a cool white, would it look better paired with a warm second color….or if it’s a warm white, should they be paired with a cool on the color wheel? Thank you so much if you can answer that question. Sue

I have decided to make this wrap in a yarn I already have in my stash, Ito Gima 8.5. I knitted a small wrap in that yarn several years ago in a KAL sponsored by an LYS in Aiken SC. The yarn is a grassy cotton, and I would consider it a fingering weight. I have used Size 3 and Size 4 needles with this yarn, with successful results. The weight and drape are suitable for all seasons in the warm area where I live. Having had such good luck with a small wrap knitted in Ito Gima 8.5, I see no reason why it wouldn't be suitable for the Half + Half Triangles wrap as well. My colors will be charcoal and cream. Nice to see you, Stacy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on knitting this wrap. Edited to add: It turns out that I don't have enough of the Ito Gima yarn to make this wrap unless I add a third color, which I don't want to do. So I have decided to treat myself to the Linen Quill since my birthday's not far away.

I had a problem with splitting, so I switched from Chiago to Lyke. The less pointy needle worked better for me. My preference on short rows is the German Short Row method.

Oh I absolutely love this so so much Stacy. You brightened my mood. I absolutely love talking about color combos and yours are so much fun. I'm knitting on the second skein of the second color on my Rose Granite + Rosewood Pink and it brings so much comfort. Would you describe Pale Mushroom as a warm grey or cool brown or somewhere in between and both?? Does it have variation in color close-up like the Honey Pink (not the same colors, just that there are other colors close-up) and Dark Iris? Pale Mushroom + Peony Pink have my eye....as do lots of combinations lol. I'm with you 100% that as long as this wrap brings comfort and joy, I will have one on the needles!!! Take care, Stephanie

I was going to use the colors Pale Mushroom and Bright Flamingo for my first HHT wrap. Then I decided to use the color Peach Stone instead of Pale Mushroom. Peach Stone is a little darker than Pale Mushroom, and it is in the brown family rather than in the gray family of Pale Mushroom. Now that my Linen Quill has arrived, I can see that I made the right decision about those colors. As a rule of thumb, if your second color is a bright one like Bright Flamingo or Peachy Pink, I would pair it with Peach Stone instead of Pale Mushroom. If your color is a more muted one like Honey Pink, I would pair it with Pale Mushroom. A nice combination that I am planning for another HHT wrap is Heirloom White and Pale Mushroom.

@@EdibleThoughtsMakes Thanks for replying, and I'm glad my suggestions have helped you. I'm thankful that the color Peach Stone came to my attention before I placed my order for Linen Quill. It's important to consider the intensity of a color when trying to pair it with another color. Peach Stone has a little stronger intensity than Pale Mushroom, so I keep that in mind when trying to harmonize them with other colors.

Okay, okay okay! Wound my first skein of Dark Denim and cast on while watching; pairing it with Peony Pink. i would make a second with Flamingo and Turmeric and a third with Fresh Pickle and Peachy Pink….but I gotta finish the first one first 😂 i also love the quill worsted blanket that is all triangles and pick up and knit

My turmeric and bright flamingo arrived! What about butterscotch and honey pink? Or peachy pink with honey pink? Or butterscotch and peachy pink? Please do another video of color combos. I would also like to see the difference between the short rows on the back of the wrap.

I was just thinking about butterscotch and honey pink! I'm not sure if or when they're restocking butterscotch. I put out a call on instagram and someone destashed it to me! It wouldn't hurt emailing purl soho and asking if they plan to restock!

Stacy, unless I missed something, what do you think of the combination of Dark Denim and Kettle Black? Another knitter on RU-vid has posted her video about using these two colors together for a Half + Half Triangles wrap. At first I was lukewarm towards that particular combination, but I soon came to see that it is an iconic piece. Since first seeing that combination, I have come across other examples of it. It's on my list of favorites to knit the wrap in.

Hi Stacy., thank you for all your input, it was very helpful. I purchased the yarn for the smaller one. Have you seen the shawl made up in the smaller size? I’m 5 ft. Live in Florida & 78. I’m curios if it will be enough of a drape? I purchased the oatmeal & the yellow, Before i purchase more yarn i would love to know your thought regarding size. Thanks for your color inspirations!!
@stacyelstone
@stacyelstone 3 года назад
So I have not seen the smaller wrap in person, and for me living in Michigan the larger one just appeals to me more, plus the larger one can double as a throw blanket which is fun! I'm honestly not sure how well the smaller size would wrap, but with you being in Florida it might just be the perfect size to drape over your shoulders when it's a bit chilly!

By now you've probably already started or finished your small Half+Half Triangles Wrap, but for future reference you can knit an in-between "medium" size by casting on 210 stitches instead of 190. I have spoken with Purl Soho about this, and they have told me that the small bundle of Linen Quill (four skeins, two per color) will be plenty to make a wrap of that size. Some knitters on Ravelry have said they had enough yarn in the small bundle to make a wrap casting on 220 stitches, but that seems too close to "yarn chicken" for me.

Oh, Stacy! This is my favorite video ever. It made me so happy to watch this while knitting my half + half (bright flamingo and honey pink … although I’m considering saving the honey pink for my next one and using pale mushroom, we’ll see when I get to the second half). I was having a really crappy day and this just lifted my mood so much - so, thank you!! I’m just going to pull out my wrap WIP and put on your video if I ever need a boost. And holy moly - you have the most amazing stash of linen quill! I took notes of all the beautiful combos you shared for my second, third, fourth, etc. wrap I will knit. One question for you - did you block your shawls? I’m inclined not to because I don’t want it to stretch, but if the linen quill softens more I might. Thanks again for sharing!

I knit a swatch of Linen Quill, put it through a cold wash cycle in machine and air dried it. It is amazing how much softer it is and it has a beautiful haze. I have knit a blanket in this yarn, but have not put it in washing machine. I plan to and see no reason why the result would differ from the swatch. Finding a large unoccupied area to air dry presents a problem, however!!

Oh the colors you can choose! Wow. I am super excited to get some of this yarn. On my needles I have currently a 1/2 & 1/2 triangle wrap. My yarn is a lace weight with a Shubui Mohair. It is ok…. Not great. I am looking forward to securing some Linen Quill. The sale of recent did not have my colors but I will keep looking for restock. I now get the pattern ( thank you for your help last month). I think the designer ( although a free pattern, so kind), could have been better worded. I had many nights I just couldn’t forge forward to risk a mistake due to a cloudy interpretation of the words ( my opinion). Ripping out a mistake with mohair was daunting. As well I dislike mohair… why am I using? But anyway…. All my choices. I adored this video… your enthusiasm and your sharing and the color ways are just all the best. This knit is so so soothing. Think I will have one on the needles always. ( so nice to say this as I had early on my own inner frustration)…. Learning and growing is a good thing. Take care Stacey. Thank you.
