That Jennifer Lawrence clip is hee-larious. The fact that he was translating through his phone, and that she just used the opportunity to be horrible.... Also, his laugh in response, better acting than she's ever put forward.
A very similar thing happened with Brie Larson at the SAG awards and she tried to help the interviewer get the words out. A very telling demonstration of character of you ask me.
@The Rue Morgue Yeah, she kind of let the fame go to her head after that Oscar win. I think, like Jennifer Lawrence, she's trying to be sarcastic and funny but kind of comes off as somewhat demeaning. I guess that's what Hollywood does to people, damn shame. Tbh I've moved onto Mary Elizabeth Winstead, (from Envy to Ramona I guess). She's much more real and good in everything shes in. I like Brie more in indie movies or shows, she was great on the few episodes of community she was on, and outstanding in Room, but I feel like she comes off as kind of flat in big budget movies for some reason. She was (to be fair like most of the other characters) kind of wooden in Skull Island, and from what I've seen of the CM trailers (haven't seen the movie just going on what I've seen) something just seemed kind of off about her delivery. Sometimes people have more pressure going onto a bigger project or (more than likely) are being directed differently and are in a different work environment. I'm not entirely sure, but there is definitely a difference in how the two types of film are made. Just my 2 cents. (Fuck me this comment expanded).
Mike sober: Speaks about art, emotions... Mike drunk: Speaks to fictional Jim&Colin, makes Aids and 9/11 Jokes. Mike is like the Ying and Yang symbol in a person, driven by the amount of alcohol in his blood. Amazing guy.
I think it was in the new ghost busters review when he was drinking crystal skull vodka and he got more drunk than usual. I love that shit. He told Rich to fuck himself haha.
That foreign reporter actually sounded like he was having troubles saying the question so i thought that he was using his phone to read it or something, i'm really surprised she was looking at him and never thought that maybe that was the case? no.. she just decided to shit on him and that's shockingly ignorant.
No it isn't; her career has been propped up by soundbites and clippable snippets. You can tell she's desperate for them - even her body jerks back in revulsion to what she has said - like the words coming out of her mouth were 300*C.
I don't get why anyone would seriously be impressed by that. A shit ton of stuff is filmed in the cold. 'It reminds me of this episode of Star Trek when Odo and Quark crashed on this like snow planet and had to wait to be rescued. I don't see Armin Shimerman getting no Oscar for having to spend 45 minutes stuck with Odo.'
Dan Hauer Well, I'm sure the sound work in your English teaching vids are pretty solid. Btw, I didn't expect to see you here. Thought I'm the only one in Vietnam watching these guys trashing on Oscar nominees.
I always assumed that Matt Damon's character was coming up with lame jokes to keep himself from going insane, but that doesn't explain why every other character in the movie does the exact same thing.
Jake Eyes Because the movie had to stretch the book out and make it more appealing Because, even though I love the book, it’s about 75% scientific nonsense.
It's because of the long time span of the Martian. Because takes so long for anything to be done (even just communication) that people simply can't stay super stress/emotional for that long, it all just becomes "normal" and abstract. The Martian is basically just "everyday life in space". Astronauts train for years to be prepared for all these potential accidents/problems before going on a mission so they don't give-up or freak-out. If your whole job is doing science you don't actually get super excited everytime you do an experiment, even science and space exploration becomes an everyday grind after awhile.
It's most likely because either the writers or the director don't know how to create detailed and unique characters. You see it all over bad movies and TV shows, in fact these guys talk about it often. If all the characters act like the same person, or act like one dimensional cartoons that nobody can relate to, most likely the cause is an inexperienced or talentless creator. Maybe both.
@@SylentVoidkeeper they cut a lot from the book. Science is weak but both book and movie are awesome. I did like Matt Damon in it. This movie is obviously for different audience.
the plot of half in the bag so far is the most complex and careful written masterpiece there is. marvel at the story and characters while rich evans completely steals the show at the end.
Never saw the clip of Jennifer Lawerence berating that foreign reporter before and it makes the dislike I have for her overrated ass grow even more, she hasn't put in a good performance since Silver Linings that was four years ago when's she going home? Also sicario should have been nominated great movie too violent and mean spirited for the academy tho. And Ex-Machina should have been too but Science fiction is below the academy I guess
arenasification she phones everything in most of the time and has the charisma of a door knob. And I agree her last two oscar nominations weren't deserving at all I feel like the academy just nominates her based on her name
I don't think they ever stated their actual opinion on the film itself, I think they were comparing how drastically different their tone and audiences were
@@frankmerker630 yeah the tones of most of the best animated films always vary wildly, i mean just look at the options in 2016, it would be like having schindler's list on the oscar for best comedy
Films like Shaun the Sheep make me glad I had a younger brother so I'd get to see something really good that I otherwise wouldn't take any interest in as a then 16 year old. Aardman really knows how to make gold.
I was so disappointed in the lack of people who look like me in the 2010 New Zealand Exercise Industry Awards that I am seriously considering boycotting it this year. #NZEIAsoNotLikeMe
Fucked up regime or not ( and it is), i'm sure Iran abandoning the deal has nothing to do with the assassination of one of their leaders and provocations from the U.S. side, right ?
Man what is with these A-list actresses being so rude to everyone at awards ceremonies. You won an award, why are you so mad? Has Lawrence never met a non-American? Because I think anyone else in the world would immediately pick up on the language barrier and get that maybe the guy has a list of questions or a translator on his phone to help him.
They are all terrible, terrible people. Just listen to what they say whenever they get a microphone on them outside movies. Shallow, pathetic subhumans.
Jennifer Lawrence always feels like she has to be the funny, spunky one. The guy has a very thick accent, regardless of what she was thinking seeing him with his phone, it couldn't have been that hard for her to figure out he was foreign and maybe immediately jumping down his throat for any reason is disrespectful. Even if he weren't foreign, the question he asked could've just been an honest mistake. There's no call for her to be a bitch.
I want Room to win the best picture, but whoever prepared the cards they read from made a mistake and it will: "And the best picture award goes to: THE ROOM"
The Martian was basically a combination of Castaway and Apollo 13, and it wasn't as good as either of them. Castaway did the isolation better (you can't create a feeling of isolation if you're constantly cutting away to what's going on with other characters every 5 minutes), and Apollo 13 did space better (being a historical drama). Ridley Scott is a good director and there was good stuff in the film but it had little impact on me overall. Plus there was this general feeling of being talked down to by the movie - it had too much of this "spoonfeeding the general clueless audience" type exposition that really gets on my nerves.
With the events of the 2018 Oscars currently flooding every social media platform I decided to return to this wonderful video to cleanse myself. Shame Mike and Jay didn't do one of these this year.
+Andrew Michel stop trying to be critic, Room is amazing, took 12 years to make, 12 years, it took 12 years, and it had a kid actor, a kid, a kid who acts.
+Andrew Michel I freaking loved it. I JUST finished watching it. I had never seen a trailer for it and I paused this video as soon as they started talking about it and suggesting it's better to go in blind.
+Nate Dilgard pshh. loving RLM for reinforcing your existing mentality is soooo mainstream.... go grab your Toms slippers and drink your Starbucks frap, basic bro. #sheeple
+Nate Dilgard Yeah * sips from overpriced latte * all mainstream movies are bad, because having a larger budget and a director someone has heard about before makes a movie automatically bad.
+Omgdonut297 You don't even know the context of what was going on but if you're gonna interview someone and you're staring at your phone like a dope, it's disrespectful. She called him out, no big deal.
+P Jones The dude couldn't speak English well and was using his phone to help him ask his question. If he were texting or tweeting I'd understand a bit but he was using it as a tool to help him not to make it seem like he was busy doing other things.
Regardless she had no right to jump to the conclusion she did and talk to the guy like a parent talking down to a child. Basically she assumed something then acted on that assumption like a complete bitch. If she were professional she'd not have said a word and just answered the question but nope, acted like a pretentious stuck up bitch.
I love how people credit The Revenant for "Shooting in the cold." I live in Calgary where they shot the movie. What do I get for living in the cold? Everyday! Oh, believe me Calgary is not cold. Winnipeg, my hometown, that's cold. Frequently colder than Mars.
The fact that animated films are separated from the rest of the films is ridiculous. A good film is a good film. Why they have a category for Best Animated Film is beyond me. Just include animated films in the Best Picture category if the film is good enough.
"It's the moviest movie I've ever seen" "It's like a movie made exclusively for the trailer" Perfectly captures that underlying sense of cynicism I get from the blockbuster movie industry. Brilliant stuff :) YA FUCKIN' HACKS
With respect, what's a person like you doing in the comments of a Red Letter Media video? Everyone comments in a comedic tone. I obviously don't actually hate her, she just bugs me. Chill.
My annual Oscar tradition is to drink scotch and play video games until I pass out. The next morning my girlfriend fills me in while I drink strong coffee and try to get over my headache. Two minutes later I have forgotten everything she said. Oscars!
+Drunk Dave It wasn't that bad. Not boring, but completely forgettable. Entertaining at most, like the movie you would watch on cable halfway through at night after work laying in bed before falling asleep.
that clip of Jennifer Lawrence being all "dont talk about that shit again" in that film that is some horrible ass line reading trying to come across as badass or something
I don't know why one shot of Rich Evans sitting in a chair talking on a phone and then not moving for a few seconds is so funny... but it's really funny.
The last scene of Blade Runner gets me emotive every time. The "tears in the rain" scene is pretty feekin awesome. Including emotionally. The rest of the film is much more of a technical thing but that last scene... man oh man
I personally think the Rachel/Deckard scene in his apartment is pretty intense. Not much dialogue but they're both struggling with emotions they don't know how to handle.
I'm genuinely shocked about these guys thoughts on The Martian, I thought it was great but I guess that's RLM for you, not afraid to be honest and that's great.
Yeah me too, I think they just don't like Matt Damon (and I can't blame them for that), but they let their dislike of the man skew their review of the film.
I loved The Martian! Went into it knowing practically nothing about the plot, and really enjoyed it. One of the best movie experiences I've had in the past few years to be honest.
And the nominees for Best Actor are: Leonardo Dicaprio Leonardo Dicaprio Leonardo Dicaprio Leonardo Dicaprio and Leonardo Dicaprio And the Oscar goes too..... Rich Evans for Space Cop
The Martian "seems like a movie for dummies" comment is funny because it tried to stay pretty true to the book, which appealed to the nerdiest people who enjoyed reading pages of tracking calories in potatoes.
Entire movie is bored Matt Damon half-assedly delievering sarcastic lines. I felt like there should be the feeling that he's desparate, a guy's stuck on Mars and he's cracking wise?
Shaun the Sheep was an excellent movie. For a kids movie to be that entertaining with no dialogue is quite the spectacle. It uses its visuals to drive the plot and somehow pulls it off without getting boring or confusing
the martian is probably my favorite, and yes it definitely got an emotional reaction out of me. but maybe it's just from my perspective as an engineer who spends a lot of his time working in remote locations. when shit breaks down, you have to problem solve it, and the problems don't get solved easy. the movie may make it seem easy because it's made digestible for the popcorn eaters in the crowd, as opposed to getting into the nitty gritty and having the audience just get bored and tune out completely. like everyone thinks science is cool until they see the first equation. the whole concept of being stranded on Mars is the man vs nature story on the nth degree. as he says at the end of the movie, it's a series of problems to solve for the chance to go home alive.
+Adam B (NewGuardian) That's what I liked about this movie - it's working the problem and remaining focused. And the fact that there are no bad-guys or romantic sub-plot showed in there. I really enjoyed it.
Nah, the movie was shit, I could never get though it, the dialogue was amateurish, there was no sense of horror at all, the guy just merrily went from solving one problem to the next, throwing out vapid cliches all along the way, so I don't get how you got an emotional reaction out of it.
It’s super cool watching you guys talk about films that are not as mainstream and pop-culture oriented as the normal stuff. Brooklyn is one of my favorite films ever - I feel like it is a film that stands COMPLETELY on the virtue of the writing; the story and the characters, which you guys are always talking about in your episodes. I learned to appreciate that from you. It made me happy to hear you guys talk about that film. I also agree that The Martian has a lot of flop moments, which was sad, because that could have been really good. It was almost like the flat humor in The Last Jedi.
