I liked the twist that Hela wasn't this massive villain looking to destroy Asgard, but wanted to return it to how it was - and rather than let her the protagonists had to destroy the place. Nice role reversal.

Checking in on this years later, with all the quarantine lockdown going on a lot of big theatrical films are going straight to streaming. Maybe if it works out for studios we'll wind up seeing Mike's dream come true.
It's such a shame another franchise didn't take their "Practically Indestructible Mega Powerful God Man" superhero, and consider that such a character might take some sense of enjoyment from their power and abilities and be kind of "Hey... this job doesn't have to be a depressingly nightmarish burden!" This movie also has Sir Hannibal Hopkins deliver the line "Are you Thor, God of Hammers?" with such a subtle, yet gleeful, undertone of utter contempt. It was like a parent talking to their child and wanting to say, "Kid... are you fucking simple?"
You know, I've been watching a few review channels. A few of them talk about the importance of experiencing a movie in the theater, and they make good arguments. Then Mike brings me back down to planet Earth and reminds me that most of the theaters in my area are nasty old places with tiny screens and the people are loud and obnoxious.
This is the bigger problem than a lot of theatre chains think. Now that the average person can afford a 60" TV, and a decent audio system or sound bar, it's really hard to see the advantage of your average multiplex theatre that is run-down, not very clean, has a couple of blown speakers, and less than 10 Foot-lamberts on the screen because they refuse to change the bulb that is over hours. I'm very fortunate to live in a city that has many cinemas that take presentation seriously, and will kick people out if they are on their phone or being disruptive. I have a decent home theatre, too, so if the cinemas in town ever start to take a nosedive in quality, I won't have any reason to go to them. I've actually walked out of a theatre a few times while on vacation because their presentation was so bad. I don't know why anyone in those places would ever go there.

Cinema is all about cashing in on the HYPE. why do that when you can easily have a pleasant experience at home if you just wait awhile. is almost like people are impatient and are willingly to pay alot to get their content as soon as possible... much like the people that watch CAM RIPs.

Yeah, I knew which actress she was, i didn't get confused like Mike. And the whole time, I'm thinking that it's just weird that i'm turned on by her and her tight outfit....Beckinsale hotness, mixed with Blanchet regal... and it was just too hot.

probably because mike thinks from the director's perspective. He was expecting Ragnarok to be much more funnier considering Taika's repetoire as a comedic director, so i assume Mike went in thinking Ragnarok would be a full blown taika film (like Boy, What we do in the shadows or Hunt for the wilderpeople).

I actually didn't get it until reading this comment. I was just like "Why did they randomly decide to make the shots uncomfortably framed after they switched back?" Although, I have to ask, what made you decide to ask if people got it? Were there people complaining about it in the comments, or were you anticipating people complaining?
I think Thor being less serious in this movie is some sort of character development. He's been getting less and less serious in the more recent movies he's been in. Theres also that weird short mockumentary where Thor is roommates with this Australian dude too.
Goodvillain 101 Agreed. People complaining about funny Thor really confuse me. Before, he would constantly be pointed out as uninteresting and bland, with a lot of people making fun of him for being at least as meh as characters like Black Widow and Hawkeye. Now he finally has a personality and is actually enjoyable to watch and suddenly "true" Thor defenders start crawling out of the woodwork. One of the things Ragnarok made me wish was that Taika Waititi had handled all of his movies from the beginning and the character had been this way since this whole cinematic universe thing started.
DoubleO88 Well, that's just my experience. Back then I did see a number of people being more interested in the implied shared backstory between those two characters, for example, while making fun of Thor's blandness. Also, I never said Black Widow and Hawkeye were any better (even though ever since Age of Ultron I've personally been more invested in Clint as a character). And if lack of ass-kicking was the problem then Ragnarok has solved it since in this movie he's finally acting like the God of Thunder he is and that should be carried over to the next two Avengers movies.
isn't that the fucking problem with Thor: Ragnarok. Everything Thor has known and is desperately trying to save during the movie is lost, but he's cracking jokes like they transplanted Tony Starks personality into everyone. The tone of the movie is so jarringly off, that I just can't care about it. Oh, your lifelong brothers-at-arms are getting unceremoniously murdered by your antagonist sister? I guess the movie should just kinda gloss over it- What!?! I hate this movie. Its the most overlooked bad MCU movie.

Uh, yes, a movie that portrays its characters as joke-spitting funny men, has a farcical plot with self-aware tone, and a disposable villain that adds no value or intrigue to the story, and on top of that washed up, fake looking set pieces and bland cinematography. Sure thing thing never saw that in an MCU movie before.

This is totally the best Thor, and top 3 marvel movies, at least. So damn fun y with some really enjoyable action sequences. And now I love it for the very apparent tears that it causes for super serial gatekeeping comicbook nerds.
Hela wasn't trying to destroy Asgard, if anything she was trying to make it better, even if it was better in an Evil Empire kinda way. I thought it was kinda clever that they used the doomsday device to their advantage rather than trying to prevent it from happening like all the other movies.
I wanna see Thor 4 go into Loki's story in more detail. In particular the time he lured away a giant's horse by turning into a mare in heat, got fucked by the horse, spent 6 months in the forest pregnant with a baby horse then brought the 8-legged offspring back to Asgard and gave it to Odin as a gift.
Sleipnir (Odin's 8 legged Horse) was (very briefly) in the first Thor movie so unless it's like a prequel they're won't be any hot horse fucking action for you bucko
What theaters do you go to? These places sound like hell holes. Nothing like the theaters i go to in Toledo. Maybe that's because Toledo is a hell hole and everyone goes to the movies to escape the crippling misery

The thing about the Disney market deal as reported where they are "altering the deal"... they altered the deal in Australia last year, US is only the latest (or last) region. None of the large cinema chains in Australia mentioned it, and we only heard about it cause the discount cinema chain made a comment and it was they had to raise the price on Disney movies in December 2016. A few student and senior citizens complained, thats about all. Cause even when going to the discount cinema, it was still cheaper than going to the giant chain cinemas.

Remember the days when Jay was the hard to please sex pervert and Mike was the light hearted optimist? Total role reversal these past couple years. Jay is desperate to say positive things about the movie but Mike isn't having any of it. I'm surprised to see Mike crap on this movie but defend Id4 Resurgence and Jurassic World. It's like he saw Armond White and said to Jay, "Hold my beer." The last ember in his cold dead heart has finally extinguished. Now only star trek references can nourish him.
Mike is a big fan of schlock. Both Jurassic World and ID4 Resurgence were full of it. Thor Ragnarok was a competent film but under used it's material and made it much blander and generic than it needed to be. Jurassic World and ID4 Resurgence were movies trying so hard to be taken seriously and ended up being a big joke. In a few months, nobody will remember anything from Thor Ragnarok. You will never forget Chris Pratt riding a motorcycle next to his buddy Velociraptors.
That's entirely subjective. I forgot the scene you're talking about and honestly I forgot most of Jurassic World. I think Ragnarok is a much better movie, with much more memorable lines and scenes in general. What doesn't work for you may work for other people, different strokes for different blokes. I really enjoyed it, for the most part.
If you liked it and enjoyed it, that's great, nothing wrong with enjoying a movie. It's just after seeing him say he found X-Men Apocalypse, Jurassic World and ID4 Resurgence all fun because of their schlock, I can see why he was a little disappointed in this one. It's a good, competent movie and easily the best Thor movie made, but like he said, where they could of had fun with the movie's plot, they held back and delivered the typical super hero formulaic bad guy wants revenge/need to work together to stop them. What he likes about the schlock films is that they try so hard to be taken seriously but come off as completely ridiculous. It wasn't schlock and it wasn't original or different enough to stand out. It was competent and I believe he doesn't bother too much with a film that's just competent. They are pretty forgettable in the end.
