Jay might be the only guy who can make the loaded, weaponizable word "bitch" adorable. Another example is in RLM's audio commentary for THE ROOM, when he tracks the movie's clumsily misogynist value system by explaining with a smile in his voice, " 'Cause she's a cold-hearted bitch."
Almost all of them are infinitely rewatchable. The first time you watch them all it adds 6 years to your life. Subsequent viewings reduce life span by about the same amount.
okay SAME! i just fully dove into RLM a few months ago and i thiiiiiiiiiink i've gotten thru all of them now. but definitely watched a bunch of them more than once
I think he was the guy who'd spent years in a mental hospital and only got the role as the shopkeeper because he randomly auditioned for the role while on a day trip outside the hospital. He apparently wasn't very well back then. Poor guy :(
@@skiddzie9291 The reason being: **He wasn't acting.** He had just been in a mental hospital and kinda randomly auditioned. He's talked about how everything was a blur during that time and he genuinely felt what the character was supposed to feel. Apparently he remembers hating the kid's guts, and during the "ice cream" scene (fucking green clam chowder) he wanted to shove the spoon in the kid's mouth. So of *course* he was the best actor. He actually discovered that he was in Troll 2 by randomly viewing it many years later. I'm glad he's doing much better now.
I know. They seem to have so many videos on best of the worst with rape and boobs. I’d be interested to see how they would react to that if they had a woman there. Probably more restrained.
Who is she and why was she included in this video? Most of the time they have special guest its someone famous like max landis or someone in there group of friends
OdaVenom > “I kept waiting for the troll to come back around and it never did (come back around in the movie)” ... “Uh. There is no nothing in troll 2!” Hahaha nicely done, we could barely tell that she was making up intricate background stories as lies to cover up how she never actually watched troll 2.
I don’t think anyone was really making fun of the shop keeper. I watch troll 2 on the rifftrax twitch channel all the time and we genuinely love that guy.
Alright, guys, I'm sold! I've seen you reference this gem so many times I'm going to have to start looking for it now. Even if I absolutely hate it I'm going to thank you anyway because I loved the first one as a kid.
It’s truly a gem. It’s the perfect sort of approachable bad movie. Often bad movies are badly made, or acted out by people who don’t care. The badly made ones are easier to appreciate if you know about film making and the mistakes they are making, the badly acted ones tend to be a slog unless there’s something else fun. Troll 2 is acted out by people who care about the movie and deliver their lines passionately. The issues with the movie are very clearly in the creative side of things, with the direction and script. So it’s just fun to watch because you see these amateur actors passionately acting out this bizarre vision.
I don't think the love people have for the actors in Troll 2 isn't genuine just because they love the movie for being bad. I really don't get the feeling people are making for of them for being in this film, they're happy that the actual people who made it happen are having fun with them and enjoying this thing they love that they never thought would ever become famous. Plus, there's also this satisfying feeling of the underdog, the little, hard-working man somehow achieving success, even if it wasn't the way it was supposed to be. In fact, there's something even more cathartic in the knowledge that they found a way to make it work that they shouldn't have. It's like they beat the system, without even trying.
replying to an ancient comment but it also helps that the acting in troll 2 is pretty good (relative to your average shitty movie). The issue is with what the director made them do and say. So we can easily celebrate the actors for their enthusiastic participation in a weird fun thing, and we don’t blame them for the quality
Holy Sh*t! That ending! My god, Cop Hooker lady was a revelation! But, the last moments of her laughing maniacally with the zoom push in and smash cut to credits was transcendent.
"...And then you realize you're making that face. Your brain makes that face because it doesn't know what to do with your face muscles." OMG IT'S IN WORDS!
I just watched the Troll 2 and it's actually amazing! I think this is the most misunderstood movie ever made. Let me explain - you guys in America probably don't know but in Europe there is this pretty popular italian fairy tale movie called Princess Fantaghiro (the official name is Cave of Golden Rose). And while watching Troll 2 at one point I said "This kind of looks like a Fantaghiro movie". And it really does - the very overacting witch, her "lab", the goblins, people turning into trees, the shape shifting, witch seducing someone, etc. ... it all screams italian fairy tale (Especially the witch! She plays it perfect! That's 100% italian witch performance!). And I was like "ok, ok, I think I get it, it's a fairy tale, just mixed with horror". And when I looked at it as an italian (horror) fairy tale of that era, it's not that bad, it's not great but it's very entertaining and has a lot of great ideas. Only later I discovered that I actually might be right - the director is actually an Italian and as I read his intention was really to do "comic horror story for families, without blood"
So... it's just poorly translated? It seems like, if given an original Italian movie with the actual story you're talking about, it'd be twice as great!
@@bryansmith1691 It wasn't meant to be, originally. It was called "Goblin". It was retitled later by the producers to tie it in with another moderately successful to cash in on its name, a practice that wasn't uncommon at the time, especially for foreign shlock films.
I was in a play with Mike (the little boy) while he was filming this movie. I thought he said it was called “Monsters”. It wasn’t until a few years ago I realized it was Troll 2, a movie I’ve been hearing about for years.
Sorry to disappoint. I haven’t spoken to him since the year we were in the play. Considering he made a documentary about the history and phenomenon of the film, I doubt there is shame.
So... I watched Troll 2 twice, first time to get over a panic attack, and the second time only to discover my mom (who I thought had never seen it) had in fact seen that masterpiece. I'd probably watch it and XTRO again, I had a lot of fun with them.
The reason why this movie has nothing to do with the original Troll movie is because apparently the title of this movie was originally going to be Goblins but because they were worried that the film wasn't going to succeed in the box office, they pass this film off as a sequel to the original Troll movie by renaming it to Troll 2.
I just came back to this because I realized how lucky I was the other day. See, many years ago... when streaming just started... I was watching a lot of movies, especially free movies. I know I had seen Troll on the shelves of vhs stores in my youth, and I felt like I watched it before... I decided to watch it again. Watched it and had a grand ole time. Harry Potter made me come up with a conspiracy and the Ghoulies characters gave me flashbacks to being a kid. Then, I see Troll 2. "Ok, let's go." I actually got to watch Troll 2 before hearing anything about it. Now, the movie isn't so out rightly infamous at the start. I thought the car scene was kinda intense and actually kinda creepy so I didn't turn it off. I was thinking about this the other day tho... the "you don't piss on hospitality" scene made me deliver the actual "Oh my gooooood" line before the omg line itself happens. To me... there was something profound about that revelation. A couple other side notes. I felt like the peter pan looking guy in the intro looked like Daniel Tosh, so that got me through the bad effects during the intro. The scene with the whole family backing up slowly from the town had some kool horror synth music that made that scene actually compelling. I was hooked from beginning to end. Years later I saw how infamous the movie had become on the internet and I gotta be honest... it's so much better to go into Troll 2 without knowing it's what it is.
the lesson: this is the one "bad" movie that I can say for sure you should go into without spoilers if you can help it. Which if you read my previous comment, you might be kinda screwed. What a conundrum?
I don't know why I I laughed so hard at 1:23 "how the fuck do you know what it's called?" Hahahah! I'm loving Half in the Bag. Going on a video marathon :D
That strange start to the daughters dance routine could be inspired by David Bowie. There is a famous photo of him doing just those "glasses". Just speculation on my side.
I'm willing to bet that Best Worst Movie is what inspired The Disaster Artist. It has that same tone about failure being heartfelt and somehow admirable. It'll be a movie soon too.
I'm at 7:57 and I've never seen the Troll Films, but Troll 2 seems like its just trolling the audience? Going back to watch the rest of this video now.
