Someone needs to do a supercut of Mike trying to think of one actor from a movie, and Jay coming up with every actor in that movie while MIke goes 'uh, uh'
Movies Discussed: The Green Inferno 0:32 Ex Machina 4:59 The Lazarus Effect 7:16 Call Me Lucky 8:57 What We Do in the Shadows 10:55 Lost Soul Colon Long Title Something The Horrible Journey Something of Richard Stanley 13:58 Maggie 17:23 Welcome to Me 19:35 The Cobbler 22:52 Black Mass 26:52 Poltergeist 28:56 The Overnight 33:26 Boulevard 35:56 Aloha 37:44 Accidental Love 40:01 Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation 43:25 Backcountry 45:57 The Gift 48:35
Came here for this comment specifically. Some recent Norm MacDonald tribute video talked about Norm's idea that the perfect joke would have a punchline identical to the premise. I think Norm woulda liked Jay's aloha joke.
-Green Inferno (Amazonian cannibals) -Ex Machina (AI/robot and Oscar Isaac dancing) -The Lazarus Effect ("biggest pile of horse crap I've ever seen" ~ Mike) -Call Me Lucky (comedian documentary) -What We Do In The Shadows (vampire mockumentary) -Lost Soul (documentary about The Island of Dr Moreau movie) -Maggie (Ah-nold's a dad who has a daughter turning into a zombie) -Welcome To Me (crazy, rich Kristen Wiig who has a TV show) -The Cobbler (Adam Sandler finds magic shoe machine that turns him into people) -Black Mass (Johnny Depp is a gangster with very distracting blue eyes) -Poltergeist (another re-make that wasn't needed or asked for) -The Overnight (while 2 couples' kids sleep, the couples get wasted, naked, and unpredictable) -Boulevard (Robin Williams is an older guy with a wife who finally realizes he's gay?) -Aloha (Emma Stone is an Asian-American...yeah...) -Accidental Love (Jessica Biel has a nail in her head and something about Tracy Morgan's anus?) -Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation (Tom Cruise in his 5th impossible mission that he makes possible) -Backcountry (a bear attacks people) -The Gift (Jason Bateman may or may not be a douchebag while the other guy may or may not be a creeper) -Into The Grizzly Maze (a bear attacks people but now with Billy Bob Thornton) -The Boy Next Door (Jennifer Lopez makes really good cookies) -Playing It Cool (best and most amazing movie poster ever!)
As someone who designs film posters for a living, with a continual anxiety regarding my performance; seeing the poster for Playing it Cool really put me at ease. I'm good now ... thanks Mike.
One of them says "It was like the worst thing ever," the other says "No, I enjoyed it!" This basically sums up the majority of Mike and Jay's interactions with each other.
Jay forgot to mention the most important part of the Cobbler's twist in that there is actually a giant organization of cobblers that use their magical cobbling machines to disguise themselves and fight crime. Dustin Hoffman even mentions that the dry cleaners are their enemies.
So clearly, RedLetterMedia looked at the upcoming movies and said, "Shit, there are only about two other movies we want to review before Star Wars comes out. Yet, we need three episodes to make it to 100... Movie recaps are still popular, right? It's only October? Fuck it! We'll do it live!"
+Chris Wynn When I was a kid, Christmas was a satsuma in a sock, my parents getting drunk and throwing stuff at each other, and the cold... the bitter, unrelenting cold. So, yes. This is exactly like Christmas.
I remember watching Green Inferno in the cinema. It was the greatest thing ever. I ended up going twice with a couple friends and we had bets on how many people would be actually horrified by the movie verbally or walk out. I'm like Jay, i was about as entertained by the other peoples reactions to the movie as the movie itself. We need to have more movies like this in theaters.
Not only that but I also think the movie is quite funny as sociological satire, with all its scathing caricature of a certain kind of environmental activists. Jay says the movie is tonally inconsistent, but I think it's mostly just a dark, disgusting comedy, which actually is what makes the horror scenes bearable for me. It's a pretty similar tone to that of Hostel, as far as I remember while watching that one you were not supposed to feel 100% horrified either, the whole thing was sort of playful.
About that Adam Sandler movie "The Cobbler", the plot of it sounds suspiciously like that Tales from the Darkside episode called "The Social Climber." In that episode, an apprentice of a cobbler finds out that if he wears the custom-made shoes that the master makes for his customers, he also becomes that person. It's a neat little episode if you're a TftD fan, although the ending was a bit predicable.
I know there isn't a pizza roll's chance in hell that Mike or Jay read the youtube comments, but nevertheless I still just want to thank you guys for making this stuff. I really enjoyed this video and all the videos you do. Keep up the awesome work, guys.
I wanna see horror on their faces when they spin the wheel with eight Sandler movies not knowing what awaits them yet. Or maybe even doing the Plinketto with Rich Evans landing on "player's choice" and having to pick one intentionally.
Watching Red Letter Meta videos gives me both a ton of laughs and some good insight on filmmaking. Reading a good amount of the comments from their fans nearly gives me brain cancer.
@@92brunod Don't waste your time. These types of people are the types that use words like "Toxic fandom" and such lol I bet they got butt hurt or triggered by some comment and are now against "all fans" ! Like, dude you do know you are one of em, right...? lol
Dammit,I think because of your comment, this video came up when I typed"Sicario RedLetterMedia", I watched the whole thing expecting them to review it!
i searched it before that, and this came up. I think there is one video where they mention Sicario, but dont review it because they cant think of enough shit to say about it.
I agree, I was really uninvested in the story and the characters and found it really disappointing. However, I found the performances very good regarding Emily blunt, Josh Brolin, and Emilio Estevez. The director who I really don’t want to type his name has made great films such as Enemy, prisoners, and the new blade runner and I’m still really into his movies and I can’t wait for more of them. Unfortunately, I found the film very uninteresting and even boring and it’s sadly a 3/10
Review starts at 5:00 if anyone is curious, although how this movie didn't warrant its own review is beyond me, I'm nuts about the film. The kind of thing that after you get over the initial shock of the plot, you immediately have to rewatch it just to see HOW they filmed it. And I've got the benefit of hindsight now, living in the future as I do, but it makes these videos a lot easier to hunt through when you guys put the poster in the corner during reviews, so we can skip to the film we're looking for. Even better? Index in the comments!
Can we please get a 23h loop of Jay's PWUPUN PWUPUN from 32:41? Also If you see this before the video, hit the time stamp.. then watch the video. You will not be disappointed
I love these episodes of HitB. I know they don't do as well, but I like hearing about other movies that aren't necessarily big block busters or mainstream. I really love hearing their recommendations for movies they genuinely liked and would actively encourage others to seek out, rather than just the "yeah go see it" recommendations of the lack luster movies they review. I would love a random one off episode where they just talk about their favorites and recommendations. Not that I don't love the other episodes, and I know it may not be worth it to do, but I just think it would be cool to see. Anyway, here's hoping for an end of 2015 recap!
+Sketchy Fella A ghost hunting couple were part of a murder-suicide recently. Mike likes ghosts. It was a fairly big story for weirdos. I feel proud I got it immediately. edit. link www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/09/24/how-real-life-horror-visited-rock-star-ghost-hunters-dead-in-alleged-murder-suicide/
+Sketchy Fella The RIEVP part is a play on words, referring to Electronic Voice Phenomenon (a popular tool of paranormal investigators). Since Mark and Debby both died recently, he's saying Rest In Electronic Voice Phenomena.
So I actually saw Lazarus Effect in theaters with a friend. We knew it probably wasn't going to be too good but we were hopeful. We got a few minutes into it and we saw all the winking and nodding to the audience and knew it was crap. When it got to the part with Olivia Wilde pumping something into her head with the medical gun and getting more powerful, I turned to my friend and in a growling voice I said "Have a happy period." And we both busted up in the middle of the theater.
south park: bigger longer & uncut back in 1999 was the last film I watched in a theater where people were leaving in anger and disgust...that movie was awesome
+Icecream2448 Hunger Games? Do people really need Half in the Bag for all these young-adult franchises? Nah, doubt it. Something like Sicario+Steve Jobs or Crimson Peak+The Last Witch Hunter and then Spectre must be more likely.
Bout to watch call me lucky and I took your advice on watching whiplash! Thanks Jay! That was a really good film. I should also thank you both for ex machina as well! If you YTs havent seen these movies please do yourself a favor!
This is part of what made me fall in love with RLM. Obviously they had a successful RU-vid channel and were making decent money, but they invest in making better content. Moving the entire Half In The Bag Plinkett's house set to the second warehouse was such a cool time-lapse video.
