Thank you. This was my favourite part of the game. The return to simplicity of wielding a single weapon, after carrying an arsenal on my back. Sterile, brutalist, *alien* architecture. Unexplained sounds in the distance. The humming of some indescribable machinery powered by the fabric of the universe itself. I hear this and I feel physically cold, and then clearheaded, as though the Combine were singing me into wakefulness. This is music and it should have been included in the soundtrack.
That really summed this section of HL2 in a really nice way. I would love to play the Citadel levels in Source 2 with more detailed visuals, it could be so beautiful looking.
Played Half-Life: Alyx recently and finally seeing what is in certain combine tech is actually really disturbing, the health vials actually have ant-lion larvae in them which are then smashed into pulp to make the Healing gel. There's a part where you open a console and inside it are several disks with living tissue (and a live rat) in them.
I thought those were really interesting details that added to the lore, and it makes you realize that just because lot of the Combine devices seem mostly mechanical, doesn't mean they don't have a wiggling creature or two trapped inside it powering the components.
i always knew that the grubs had to play somehow into the health vials and packs. the little yellow chunks in the substance and the yellow balls that you get when killing a grub were enough for me to believe that the combine pretty much just farm antlions
Maybe it's only me but as a kid I loved the citadel level the most because the alien architecture was eerily beautiful and the interiors and enemies weren't creepy or downright terrifying (like in Ravenholm, jeez, how I feared it). It is only when you delve deeper into the HL lore and discover hypotheses about the citadel being alive, that stalkers are made in this facility, etc. that you start to realise just how baleful entity this impossibly tall structure is.
I actually find this rather calming. The citadel from outside is very evil looking and hella scary, but when you kinda sit there inside and hear the sounds of the combine's technology and the atmospheric sound of it, it actually sounds pretty soothing.
Haha I don't mind! My uploads fit a pretty small category with a small audience so I never really expected anything, but it makes me happy that there is a little handful of people out there who have found and enjoy listening/watching my content :)
Very relaxing! These sounds become such a super special atmosphere that I can’t explain. comes to mind all that has happened in the story of half-life and the large Citadel where many combine devices making interesting sounds. i played bms with relaxing xen and after then this. I love these sounds
@@THEPIECRAB I built it using a Cooler Master S600 case and a liquid cooling system from the same company, I'm guessing it's the liquid cooling pump that makes that noise
_War Journal: We battled through City 17, and managed to get into the Citadel thanks to the Combine walls. I am clear in my mind about our goal and we will accomplish it, no matter if it'll cost our lives._ 😎 The last thing Our Benefactors will understand is... that the Gravity Gun knows.
I swear I hear Zero-G's Altered States - B-Movie Drug head between the tremolo effects. Oddly alienating and calming like putting your hand on a cold and hot surface, except in aural form.
For those who are interested, the field loops heard in this ambience were sampled from this ambient track ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d7f4cp4PsYo.html
Its pretty simple for hl2 game ambience! 1. I start by going to the level in the game which has the ambience I want using gmod 2. I disable ai and use the camera tool to hide the HUD 3. I noclip and find a location to record from which looks cool and goes well with the ambience visually 4. Record for however long you like using any recording software! 5. Edit the video in any program of your choice and upload! I hope this helps!
you got here, you don't remember anything, only blood stains on your palms make you remember. everywhere the bodies of elite soldiers of the combine mixed with stalkers. these dark cries and dark noises make you feel a dark sense of hopelessness. Freeman was here, the Citadel is about to explode, you won't get out...
