Half-Life 2: Update vs. Cinematic Mod 2013 vs. Original Comparison [WQHD|1440p] 

again you DONT have to use the CM character models, the mod allows you to decide whole lot of things what you want to keep in their original form. this includes character models, weapon models and whole lot of other things, so you can adjust the mod the way you like it, except for the updated environments and how they look.

Dani Jimenez It can all be done from its own menu folder, outside the game...cant give more detailed instructions than that, since its been a while since I played this mod, but Im sure you can figure it out....just look for "configuration" or "setup" or something like that.

Yeah. I don't even mind the different worlds but the npc's are horrible. Not to mention the option to sex up Alyx is a clear indicator that the developers made the mod as if it were a Skyrim overhaul.

Usually you have a reflective texture with an env_cubemap that gives it reflections. No doubt it looks nice, but you can only do this in 1 place per level and.. well.. it's Source - there are limitations.

+Jarethenator You should try CM2013 fully graphically modded, because this video only showed the textures, some of the models, and color-corrections (in-game) from CM2013. It makes it look crappy because it's technically the vanilla game.

I don't think the problem with CM2013 is that it's over-detailed, the problem is that it looks unrealistic, and seems to want to add shit for the sake of adding shit and not because the original was lacking something. The skyline looks unrealistic, like they wanted to jam-pack as many buildings as they could in that view without regard for realism, and the modern architecture is contradictory with the lore. The random power-lines and stage construction on the ceiling in a Soviet train station, it just looks weird. But the real kicker is that blanket of ferns growing out of a building, what the fuck? Some of the things would've made it look better, like the higher poly meshes, but a lot of it looks inconsiderate.

Time for every other game I have ever played to feel sub-par again. *Sigh*

Rei dos Vermes Right places? The update mod barely looks any different from the base game. The only problem I ever had with hl2 was its old textures, which is not something that the update improves. The Cinematic mod is far from perfect, but at least it actually makes the graphics noticeably better.

why should I? its Update vs CM vid and I can praise CM all I want, IMHO it provides MUCH better and more refreshing experience. HL2 looked great back in the day, but CM really provided the graphics overhaul that the game needed...Update is only great for those who are too butthurt about CM mod changing the look "too much".

its sad but true. both teams worked hard to update everything and either made it worse or so miniscule that its not even worth it. Update pros: shadows are better. CM13 pros: they added random shit and upgraded textures slightly. neither of them bring hl2 to next gen. mostly because in doesn't need to be.

I honestly don't like the cm2013 mod. It takes way to many liberties with the game and changes it from just looking better, to a completely different game. The models are also terrible even though they are optional

***** and Jumbo, I completely agree. I was disappointed. CM looks amazing, however they started changing and adding to what already is a masterpiece. Adding thicker grass, more vibrant trees, detailing the buildings, well thats fine. However when they started adding random things, changing the actual scenery instead of improving it, a problem arose. No need to change the perfection that is Half Life 2.

I learned this from mapping. I was making a map with a lot of models and detail. But it ruined the feel of hl2.

I think the empty streets reinforce the feeling of a city under oppression. It contributes to a surreal, almost haunted kind of vibe.

Minecraft is actually a big game made with an engine that requires a beefy computer, but source games are all made on Source Engine which doesnt require one. Source engine is simpler than MC engine.

CinematicMod tried to give the original atmosphere of the HL2 betas (A darker depressing and even realistic environment) The problem with HL2 Beta was that the story (for the creators at least) was not fun or great when it came to making it playable, it got boring, but the atmosphere is much better.

It really fucking urkes me when people bash on the Cinematic Mod even though they never have played it. Sure, it adds some pornographic things I especially don't agree with, but some of the areas look fantastic and the retarded character models are completely optional, but some people just don't want to understand that. The complaints about bloom and shit aren't warranted either, because you can turn that off as well.

well the mod did a lot of remodelling and changed the hl2 feeling quite a bit, which isnt a bad thing exactly, but the update just kind of redoes the lightning, i just could see they did some tinkering with contrast and stuff, made the game more moody.

Most of the improvements the Update mod makes are basically missing in the video, since the point of the mod is just as much about improving the graphics as it is fixing the bugs in the original.

Finde auch, dass die CM Mod ein wenig den Charme nimmt, aber wie MrFlauxhol sagt: Man kann die NPCs und Waffen auch einfach nicht verändern und nur die neuen Maps und Effekte installieren. Das lässt das Spiel meiner Meinung nach deutlich atmosphärischer wirken und gefällt mir besser als das Original.

Der Cinematic Mod steigert aber genau deswegen enorm den Wiederspiel-Wert. Man hat praktisch ein neues Spiel... Abgesehen davon verändert ehr meiner ansicht nach mehr zum beseren als zu schlechteren. :D

würde sagen geschmaks sache wo bei manchen ecken ich mich bei der mod gefragt hab musste das sein an deutlichsten wird das an der ecke wo das Haus komplett überwuchert war (Musste das sein?) bei black mesa 2/ rebellen unterschlupf einfach nur stimmig. Die innen Räume waren dann wieder passent auf gewerte und die NPC is wieder Geschmacks sache.

Da bin ich mir schon einig geworden. Jeder empfindet das anders. Aber das Schieben hat 8 Sekunden Zeit, ist also nicht schnell oder chaotisch. Ich bin kein Fan von 3er Vergleichen, aber ich halte das für die beste Lösung so. Es geht erst 8 Sekunden von links nach rechts, dann wieder zurück. Anders war ein geordneter Vergleich von drei "Plattformen" nicht möglich. Und drei Szenen gleichzeitig nebeneinander laufen zu lassen halte ich für die unübersichtlichste Variante, außer es ist kaum Bewegung drin. Da kommt man einfach mit dem Auge nicht hinterher. Aber danke für dein Feedback. Wir versuchen immer, die Videos so komfortabel wie möglich zu machen. Ich mache mir seit dem Start von Candyland intensiv Gedanken, wie man Unterschiede effektiv und komfortabel zeigen kann. Darum ist mir dein Feedback sehr wichtig. Grüße, Steve

CM2013 looks absolutely ugly on most of these comparisons. It looks high quality on certain parts but mostly ugly. The cm2013 changes the atmosphere and look of the game so much tht its a diff. game, which is a disappointment. cm2013 ruins the atmosphere of the game. It sucks, but the update actually pays attention to detail without ruining the games feel and atmosphere. Plus, Valve chose tht mod because they obviously know wht makes a game better without changing wht ppl luved too much.

FirPtl Couldn't disagree more. The whole city atmosphere is better than the original. There was no atmosphere in the highway/driving section of the original. I always thought that bit looked barren and lazy. CM 2013 adds so much to that part with the forrest setting.

The hd character models as a matter of fact are turned off by default and need to be installed using a separate program.
