Please note, not only is this mod extremely tight and well made, I managed to go the whole thing without dying, kept a constant train of thought and NOT A SINGLE donation was made. I will probably never have this level of seamlessness in a video ever again. I think that's neat. Also if you're thinking this video is low effort I did in-fact I spent far too long making 3 invisible edits with footage of me faffing bout or standing around cut out that you'd never notice. Also Also proper full fat subbed video is on its way but it's still a few weeks out because Elden Ring.
this map was made by the guy that made the mission improbable series, made arena_offblast for tf2, and has been with valve since 2016. he was in the credits for HLA
The dude who worked on this map has also worked on a number of other maps for other Source games, and he's even a part of Valve. He helped work on Half Life Alyx.
the explosion effect at the end was VERY good. Communication to the player through the usage of game mechanics is ALWAYS a great addition to immersion. The red shock, damage indicator, and fade to black was perfectly handled, with the only thing to give it away being the health indicator at the bottom of the screen.
@@melc311 that what i love whit valve they have a tendency to offer job to talented people that do stuff whit there asset instead of blocking everything and launching lawsuit like a certain Nintendo
“Now I’m playing with myself- I mean, er, um. Forget I said that, phrasing is important. Cmon cmon, through the hole… yes, made it. Only for the low, low price of never getting into Heaven.”
It reminds me alot of the mental gymnastics you had to do in the later chambers of Portal Stories: Mel, I think it had to do with time travel, which basically had the same concept
Jolly: **Reads the board in Step 1 - Step 3 - Step 2 - Step 4 order** Me: "Huh... I guess Jolly is the one person in the world who would read the Walking Dead Door correctly..." (WDD = Don't Dead Open Inside)
this is how you make good combat scenarios, it feels like it was planned and tested to be a perfect challenge for a single run through despite it not having any complex level geometry or other shenanigans, just you, a building and your quick wit, its so simple but so effective and judging by the fact he made it out with only one health left, that work paid off
The environment and level design is really impressive. It’s up to dishonoured’s level of map design. Also, am I the only one mildly infuriated every time he calls it curry instead of dr Magnusson’s magnificent microwave casserole?
Damn this was a well made mod. OFC it's a valve employee. My only gripe is that it was so good I'm mad there's not more. Those puzzles were cool (even if it's been done in other games) and fits into HL in a unique way.
That part about the situation having been under control literally had me in tears LOL :D Great mod and great playthrough, this was such a rollercoaster
I swear, youtube does EVERYTHING it can to not suggest your videos, despite the fact that I'm subscribed. It took me over 10 refreshes to even see this video in the first place
honestly i kinda forget this guy exists every month and just come back when i see him in my subfeed randomly and I'm like... oh yeah... I know this guy
Hey there Jolly! I'd have a suggestion for a game you could play. It's called "Hyperbolica" and is similar to Superluminal (in terms of brain-breaking at least). It came out today and I would really like to see how you'd deal with its funky mechanics (it's also available in VR ;) )
It’s so satisfying to see the Gordon use the half life 2 smg with the extendible stock.it always bugged me the same as when I play gta and the characters don’t close the car door.
@@AlbertoDsign in the discord he said his reasoning for deleting the edited video was because it got a couple of dislikes more than his usual, not the first time he's removed a video from basic viewing on account of something petty before. He did it with his Poppy's Playtime edit as well
Guess who has four bruised ribs and sternum and JUST remembered that this guy exists. And guess who has pain everytime they laugh. This goes down into the section "funny torture".
1:56 'Step 2) apply 900mA of electricity to subject' 'Step 4) subjects actions are recorded' Thats 3150 Volts. Their days of performing actions are done. EDIT: 'Step 3) subject moves' No actually, they don't.
@@FloofersFX I have heard it for pigeons, in GTA IV to be specific. There it was an achievement called flying rats, for which to collect, you had to kill all 200 pigeons placed in different locations.
@@SPL1NTER_SE that's interesting, around here pigeons aren't known as much other than clumsy fat birds that get picked on by sparrows and stuff. Honestly I feel kinda bad for all the bad rep they might be getting. I mean heck, seagulls on the other hand, they can straight up be aholes as well.
jolly when you talk about the giant baby nihilanth well he was a slave of the combine ... go check the black mesa documentary on noclip channel i understand a lot more on half life universe base on the first one
That's MMod, it should theoretically go nicely over most map mods without conflict. Maybe there's a special package of it specifically for that. Edit: looks like there a compat patch linked in the description.
Jolly is is a fallout ape build 0 intelligence, 0 perception, 10 strength, 10 endurance, either 0 or 10 luck (there is no in-between), 5 agility, 4 charisma, and 1 speech
All I could really think about for the first few minutes was “ooh those weapon animations look nice, especially the weapon swaps pretty fancy.” It was essentially that on repeat with a few variations until like… when I wrote this
Gotta say though, I don't like the shotgun firing animation. Doesn't feel like it has near as much impact as the firing animation in HL1/HL2/Black Mesa. Maybe it's more realistic, I don't know, but it just doesn't feel as much like what you'd expect from a video game shotgun, if that makes sense.
@@the_rabidsquirel well yeah but I’m comparing it to the original animations, not to other games It’s still nice tho, and the animation for taking out the crowbar is cool too
@@zyanidwarfare5634 I'm comparing to the original too. I explicitly mention HL2, and figured I'd throw in HL1 and Black Mesa as well as I think they all do the shotgun firing animation better than this mod.
6:51 Vortigaunts don't have opposable thumbs or high impact reactive steel suits, so my American-made shotgun vehemently disagrees with their lightning "fingers".
I could be wrong but I think Half-Life teleports aren't like Star trek teleports.. my understanding is correct they use an alternate dimension to slingshot.. so I mean theoretically anyways there's a hell of a lot more of a chance of your essence going from one place to the other it's not from what I understand again and I'm totally possibly totally wrong and possibly right at the same time cuz they may not have explained it because why would you.. but yeah.. still just just from the information at hand way more likely than a Star trek teleport.. where it is at its core technology destroying you and copying you well reassembling you anyways so anyhow...
