In this video I talk about Half Life Alyx, an amazing game built from the ground up specifically for the VR. Now VR is an incredibly inaccessible form of media, it's very expensive and you need a space to be able to play anything in it without accidentally slamming into a wall. It's a shame because Half Life Alyx is easily one of the best games I've ever played!

Congrats on finally getting to try it out. It's a great time to get into VR which all the full-fledged games coming out, or getting dozens of updates over the years. Tons to do with mods in Alyx alone, like Levitation or Gunman Contracts (which is getting made into its own game)

If you want to play Half-Life: Alyx without VR, there is a really good mod that makes the game 100% playable start to finish without a headset. It obviously isn't the intended experience, but it's great for the story, because spoilers, the game does follow into the story of Half-Life 3.

I feel like that would take away from the experience to be honest. Minus the ending following up on Episode 2's cliffhanger and the fact it was the first Half-Life game in 13 years I feel like most of its appeal comes from being a VR game. Plus, you don't realise it while playing in VR, but this game is way slower than past HL games as a result of being a VR game (the super fast paced movement and combat of HL2 would have been really hard in VR) and you really realise that using the No VR Mod, making the game feel like much more of a slog than past games. I'd rather just save for a VR headset for a little while than play what's an objective downgrade in every way.

It is the closest one to HL:A in terms of immersiveness but still not on the same level sadly :( waiting for the next part

You really need to play boneworks and bonelab if you think the physics are impressive in alyx. Just be prepared for a little jank especially in boneworks.(Pro tip for boneworks use the virtual crouch to your advantage when climbing)

if you want more vr goodness, i suggest you play boneworks next. its like the half life of vr for the total opposite reasons than half life alyx. its a physics based puzzle platformer shooter or whatever like half life 2. also if you do play boneworks, you should try to immerse yourself and explore the world as much as possible. theres a lot of story thats never told to the player properly. but its fun to theorize and learn stuff and all that. and also play the half life 2 vr mod. its free.

i first played the game last year with my quest 2 through my pc and at the time i had just gotten into the half life series and was just blown away by the game from its graphics to the story, wanted to play more of it so bad i even decided to get all the achievements which i have only done one other time

@@Proxidist I wouldn't really class it as most people not being able to afford though, when most of the people who would want to play Alyx are probably PC gamers with custom-built PCs, and these days you can get a cheaper VR for the same price as a CPU

just a heads up someone made a mod for amnesia the dark decent to be enjoyed in vr its pretty good so far just pay close attension to the tutorial bc i never learned how to refill lantern but its pretty good

ive been holdign out for the valve index 2, but them saying late 2024 early 2025 seems like past years where it keeps getting pushed out. valve index base station and controllers is almost 450 + bigscreen beyond 1000 is about 1500$....but iwant it lol

Playing it outside of VR is the difference between watching a horror movie and being in a horror movie. It's hard to explain how much VR is integral to the experience of Alyx. The entire game is fundamentally built around it and just doesn't work outside of it.
