How many of you guys are sitting there(like me) thinking, “I miss watching MTV with my friends on Saturday video after video.” The 80’s was all about the video. When they premiered a new video, we had to be there to see it. I LOVE this song!!!!!!! They are so awesome, like totally.
I remember leaving the TV on ... loud .. and when I would hear a video come on that I loved, I'd come flying from where ever I was. My mom was always suspiciously there before me when Steve Perry was singing. Seems I wasn't the only one loving MTV.
@@wickedmirage My mom & I watched MTV together. She kept it on 24/7 in our house. We got the channel when it first came out. She said some salesperson knocked on the door & explained what MTV was, & she invited him in & signed up for the channel that same day.
Hall and Oates greatest hit!!! Has all the components to make anyone tap a toe or swing their hips or bop their head... regardless of their music preference! That's what makes a song powerful and great
Yes, "heavy rotation" was a phrase used on many a H&O song! What I love about looking back on these is how players/singers/recording artists were suddenly needing to develop some acting chops, to a degree! Some, like Bowie, made the transition seamlessly, but others seemed pretty uncomfortable needing to act a bit for this new, camera-centric video vehicle!
I didn’t appreciate these H & O songs as much as I should have when they were released because I pigeonholed the group as ‘pop’ , which I’ve never been a big fan of. Now I’m enjoying being a pupil in Jamel’s re-education camp. Party on !
I agree with you Love of Plants. Jamel is making my feet move and head bop with these tunes that I never paid much attention to back in those days. He gets me smiling and singing loud enough to scare my dog. Jamel is Prozac for the ears!
@LOVE OF PLANTS And I'm the opposite. My genre was pop, then I flirted with country in recent years, but rock and the funky, loud stuff never interested me one bit. There are many lessons to be learned at Jamel's Re-Education Camp. 😎🤘
I like how it looks like Hall and Oates seems to always be having fun in their videos. Even in their serious videos it still looks like they're just goofin' around.
Jamel, you've got to react to M-E-T-H-O-D-O-F-L-O-V-E ("Method of Modern Love"-it's been sampled a lot), because the video is funny, and the song is terrific!
I have the exact same memory. Well, maybe not exactly the same one, but I was definitely playing with my Star Wars figures and hearing this song on the radio.
YES!!! I was born in 1973, so I was also a big Star Wars fan, and loved to listen to the radio, and go to our local department stores, go to the electronics department, and look at all of the vinyl albums and 45 single records! I never wanted to shop for clothes or toys, I always went straight to the music department, and stayed there until my mom or dad gave me money for the latest vinyl album, or record, I wanted badly! I bought many a Duran Duran records in the 80s! I remember my very first 45 record I bought. It was "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire. I wore that record out! And then, when I got my first stereo that had not only a turntable, but a cassette player in it, my dad took me to buy some packages of blank cassettes (like Memorex...we all used those!) and I would record my vinyl albums, and 45 records, onto the cassettes. That way, I could play/listen to them in my "jam box," and the cassette player in our cars! There was no downloading songs on your phone, or computer. The struggle was real! You had to make sure your vinyl albums and 45 records were clean, and didn't have any scratches, because there's nothing worse than listening to an album you recorded onto a cassette, and then in the middle of a song, it skips! 🤦 And then, if the tape got caught in the cassette player, you had to get your trusty pencil, and twist and turn it until all of the tape went back up into the cassette! To be honest, I really miss doing that! Generation X-ers have memories that can't compare to any other generation! We got to see a lot of technology invented in our lifetime!
One of my favourite Hall & Oates songs. First time I ever backed up on a reaction and watched a bit again. Omg when he hit that high note, your reaction was great!
Big Bang Boom was the first album I memorized in its entirety! I listened to it so many times I could not possibly quantify it! It reaffirmed my love for Hall & Oates!
I cackled because I knew when he hit that "drowsy dreams" high note you were gonna have to pause 😅 And they had some really goofy and fun videos. You should watch Method of Modern Love, it's hilarious. And Possession Obsession because John Oates is the singer ❤️
I’m 43 I remember being around 5-6 when this song came out. Takes me back to riding with my parents in my dads be rabbit 🐇.. 😂 I refoundvthis sing in my mid 30s and it’s been one of my listened to songs since… surprisingly first time seeing the video!
Jamel ... LOVE your reaction! Also deepest appreciation that you are keeping so much music history alive! 🎶🎵🎶😁 you are helping many get through this Covid era! THANK YOU! 🙏
I don't know why, but when I hear this into, it takes me back to my childhood. It's more than nostalgia; it almost time travel. I feel like I'm in the back of my dad's Cadillac El Dorado with the burgundy velvet interior going on a Sunday drive. I know that sounds absolutely insane nowadays.
whenever i see you and you talk about growing up..i am just so thankful that you were able to be one of the lucky ones that was able to not get caught up in the bad stuff and ruining your life but having the great drive to overcome it and be a success in your life..you mustve had a great family surrounding you...blessings to you and your family
JAJ! I've watched probably 3/4 of your reactions. This is the best. one. yet. I haven't seen this video in almost 30 years, and my reaction mirrored your reaction to a T. I felt like we were in the same room on this one, almost. Cheers man.
This is so much fun. I adore this vid so much (the big drum, the looks, the moves, the lighting and projection, the band!) and I remember the very first time I listened to the album (day it came out!) and Dance on Your Knees blew my mind! (This is a mash up of the first two tracks on the album - Dance On Your Knees and Out Of Touch.) I was talking back to you the whole vid because, IKR???
Ooooooo dannnnngg! Brother Jamel said ... Oh SNAPP!!! Got the MTV creation of the 80's blow his mind! H&O used the music AND video access to make a new level of R & B.
That opening with the huge drum reminds me of the old joke. "What do you call Batman and Robin when they get run over by a steamroller?" "Flatman and Ribbon." LOL.... Gotta love those old 80s music vids. Videos were a novelty and the imagination going into them pushed the boundaries.
This is 1 of my all-time favorite Hall & Oates songs. The beat is fantastic. Some people think of them as "pop artists" but to me they're dynamic soul artists.
Hall and Oats were one of those bands you didn't want to admit you liked or you seen in concert. But the ones who would say that know every word to every song they put out.🤘I like them and seen them in concert!
I was waiting for you to do this one. This song is my favorite of their discography, and one of my all-time favorites, period. Every time I hear it, I'm suddenly 9 years old again.
This is my favorite song by these guys. Love them! Thank you for doing this song. You are so cool, when you review the song. Soul really matters to me! Damn good music from the 80’s. ❤️🌹❤️ I feel sorry for the 23 simpletons who didn’t like this song.
I didn't think any y'all reviewers reviewed this song definitely I feel the biggest and best hit from Hall & Oates this was one of the most popular & played songs on my MTV was the best music television show. Those days were so special such a great time.
Another great reaction!! Thanks so much for all you do and cheering me up when I need it. You do more than you realize! Keep on keeping this music alive!
When you rewind Jamel to watch his reaction as he rewinds the video ...his expression at 4:10--too cute 😊 thank you for reacting to Hall and Oates. Love them 😁
You da bomb my brother! It gives me so much joy to see you grooving on the 80’s music and all generations. You really get the music and the sentiment of the time period. Great job!
Reaction videos, a Covid 19 guilty pleasure. I enjoy yours, very thoughtful, intelligent. All art forms reflect the times that produce it, you are learning who your grandparents were at your age. Pretty trippy, eh? At least I assume so- I'm in my 60' s and mine are in their 20's now.
