Piper wrestled with a lot in his mind. He was abused by his father, his best friend Adrian Adonis is killed in a vehicle accident. He ran away from home at about age 15 and was homeless for a few years. He started wrestling at the age of 17. He has been through a lot in his life. So don't put him down.
@Todd Reeder Roddy ran away from home at only TWELVE, and started wrestling at the age of FIFTEEN, so his life's accomplishments are even more astounding. I would never put him down; I think he was a truly remarkable man...and speaking as a woman he was RED HOT!!!
@@shirleypena4133 Lololol😂😂 That's interesting you'd say that, Ms. Pena. My late Aunt Samantha thought the same of the late Hot Rod. She met him and his missus with 2 of their kids (1 son & 1 daughter) at Disney MGM Studios in Orlando sometime in July, 1997. She approached him for an autograph and a pic of them together, which he graciously obliged. A security officer took a pic of her with all 4 Piper family members present. It made her day
info wars he was short of breath. His death was caused by a blood clot in his lung that eventually traveled to his heart. In his kids' book it talks a bit about his breathing troubles in days and weeks leading up to his passing
Just watched his documentary last night which sent me here. He really isn’t with it here, very sad to watch, even though he seems happy I couldn’t even finish it. That voicemail which Hulk Hogan discovered two days after his death gave me chills
Did you watch the complete interview? The same documentary brought me here and I thought the first segment was just kind of uncomfortable for him. Maybe that is why he was stumbling a bit through his interview. He was trying to relate whatever interaction Hulk Hogan had in comparison with his own life but he couldn't and he was just used to interpreting most information through his own experiences. That combined with the fact that he was older and not in his prime accounts for this awkwardness in my opinion. After the commercial he is coherent and able to relate his stories to the hosts questions no problem.
@@zubeidakaker1228 his death was sad he was a nice guy by all accounts.i remember an interview he did in 03 he predicted he wouldn't make it to 64 due to his last addictions
@@domenicmartucci140 I'm not laughing at that. I'm laughing at the idiot who thinks that anyone can predict their death age with any sort of accuracy, as if "he knew" 🙄
I wish he would have gone to the doctor immediately they may have found the blood clot. It think he was foggy here because his blood circulation to his brain was struggling. So sad. Love this dude.
Piper was friends with Hogan and wouldnt kick him when he was down. Says a lot about his character. Also when he says "my son is my best friend", one gets the sense that was real. RIP Hot Rod. Sports entertainment will never be the same.
If you read his book Roddy Pipers health was pretty bad leading up to his death. He wasn't well; breathless, forgetting what he was saying. It's a tragic read. 6 days before his death it's sad and tragic to see. Still supporting Hogan and his peers. A genuine nice guy in and out of the ring. Treated everyone the same well known people and fans. A great family man. A real tragedy one of the best wrestlers and best people in wrestling period. A real Legend. R.I.P Roddy your missed
Kudos to Eisen for handling this like he did. He obviously had no idea that Piper would be dead in a few days but you can see that he knew something was wrong. As a fan of Piper's, this is hard to watch. RIP Roddy
He is still talking sh*t about Piper’s performance on this interview, to this very day 😂 even though it was one of his biggest interviews of his early days… I don’t care for him very much, tbh
Rest In Peace Roddy Piper. Dusty Rhodes died then my dad four days later and then piper in July. 2015 was bad in alot of ways. Love n miss you hot rod.
I never saw this interview until now. He was clearly not in good health here. I googled when he passed and it was only 7 days later. It’s crazy to see something like that, when you see a man visibly ill days before death, just like the Ultimate Warrior. Roddy was an amazing performer and I got hours and hours of entertainment from him. Rest In Peace!
Likewise, just found out today that this was his last interview, poor guy was obviously not all there, he sure had a lot of fans who truly liked him, none more than myself,…R.I.P.
Apparently in his documentary his family saw this and they all were deeply concerned. Within a week of taking him to the hospital he died in his sleep the day before. His kids seem extremely well spoken, and really loved him.
Basically what he's saying, although clearly he's taken too many bumps to the head in his life to fully be able to communicate his point, is that he is from a generation where there is a huge difference between truly hurting someone's feelings deeply, and someone acting like their feelings have been hurt by something that isn't even close to what it actually feels like to be insulted or humiliated. People are overly sensitive so they take someone's out-of-context public comments and try to act like it had some significant effect on their lives or it really hurt their feelings in a deep way. It's fake and overly dramatic. He then gives examples of times when his race or his heritage was made into a novelty or was looked at in a derogatory way. He explains how these things did not offend him because in reality they are not personal at all - they're just about one element of his appearance and what that element makes people think. Explains how when he goes to all these new places, the people might see the stereotype, but eventually they came to love the man. He suggests that the world not get so worked up over others stereotyping or making blanket statements because it has always and will always happen, and it says nothing about who someone is individually regardless of heritage.
I think his answer made perfect sense if you speak Piper. His point was that older generations faced all sorts of ethnic, racial, and other prejudice. The younger generation is too sensitive and needs to focus less on what people say and more on the real suffering in the world. Made perfect sense.
How true this statement is today. This is incredibly relevant. What younger generations lack is perspective and that's including myself. I'm trying to learn but we've established an entitled mindset while we fail to realize how great we have it compared to the rest of the world. Life is a paradise to other countries and we fail to realize that and we're ungrateful for it.
I kinda felt the same I think he dodged the hogan question in his Piper character. Him and hogan were friends to a point. I feel Piper kinda felt it was right to stay outta that convo. Good for him
buckbumble I see nothing wrong with how he talks. I tend to ramble and have tangential speech myself because I am a neurodivergent with Dyslexia,Dyspraxia,ADHD. I think mainly in pictures. As a child, I did not learn to think in words naturally like other children. I had to be taught to think in words. I had auditory therapy, speech therapy, phonics training, and motor skills therapy to correct my Dyslexia,Dyspraxia. I support the Neurodiversity Movement and created and run a facebook group for people that are neurodivergent.
He seemed a little winded on this show. Sad these dudes going so early. However, they did live their lives. Continue to live your life, because you never know what the expiration date says.
***** He looks a bit puffy, like he's retaining water. If you saw him on Legend's House or any WWE event in the past year, he was so much thinner in the face. I think his health was going downhill for a while.
Jason Mc Some people with sleep apnea die from a silent heart attack. I have obstructive sleep apnea and use a machine when I sleep. I still stop breathing when I sleep. My body shakes to get me breathing again. Sometimes when I wake up i can my heart beating. It is very possible he had a silent heart attack from sleep apnea.
You could tell he wasn't himself. He seemed gassed and winded when he spoke. Kinda reminded me of the Ultimate Warrior's last few days. I'm gonna miss Roddy.
Most of Roddy's stories and interviews during the last 18 months of his life were like this. I was fortunate to have met him a bunch of times over the years. He was a great guy in a profession full of scum bags. Miss ya' Rowdy Roddy.
Jake the snake, haku, bret hart, shawn michaels, Tito santana, rick Martel, Sgt slaughter, ric flair, Arn Anderson, tully Blanchard, Ollie anderson, Greg Valentine, Marty jannetty, bad news brown, jimmy hart and a few or so more are still alive
He was having a series of mini-strokes here. Had they taken him to the hospital that night, he would likely be alive today or at least have a better chance of still being here. Anyone who suddenly can not collect their thoughts like this are having a heart event. Do not ever take an episode like this lightly. God bless him.
I mean I agree that he could have been having mini strokes.. but having a heart event and stroke are two completely different things. Strokes have to deal with the brain, not the heart. Although yes symptoms of both can be linked to each other
@010010 010010 he definitely is not making sense. This guy made his entire living telling stories & saying snappy phrases that people loved. If they were all like this, he wouldn't have been a star. He was probably not getting enough oxygen to his brain. I believe that might be a form of stroke. This is so sad to watch because he clearly loved to talk & tell stories & he couldn't get his thoughts together. If you've ever known someone with alzheimer's, the beginning stages look very similar. It has to be scary to the person it's happening to
@@stacin821 If this truly were the beginning of some brain condition due to all the trauma, maybe he got lucky. He could still at least understand stuff here. It would only get worse...
I met Roddy. What a nice guy. He was so appreciative of his fans. He kept telling us how much he loved being here. That night he did an episode of Piper’s Pit. One of the best guys to meet. So glad we did. RIP Hot Rod.
Roddy Piper seemed like he was uncomfortable here. He was out of breath. His voice wasnt right. However his mind was so sharp. His heart GOLD. His LAST WORDS EVER on the air (Spoken like a TRUE FATHER): "Its going to get my daughter through college. Yes Sir."
I needed to see this interview for closure. I do wish he would've had anyone interview him EXCEPT this guy. I am not feeling this Eisen guy, just like he wasn't understanding Roddy at all. I do understand what he's saying about Hulk Hogan, even though as a black person I felt like many did. He was basically saying that the whole of Hulk Hogan is not on a tape from 8 years ago. He has accomplished many things. I would never want to take that away from him. As a person who watched a Hulk Hogan cartoon way back when, I wonder when I hear stuff like this; if I met the man what would he think of me. Would he sign my autograph and then say as I walked away, 'Even those N#$gers love me too.' I just wonder is that all he sees when he sees a person of another color, or does he see another human being, just like him? I can't believe this interview was just a few days ago. Roddy really lived life.
I'll say this, those who continue to throw stones at Hogan should pull the plank out of their own eye. I guarantee you they're just as guilty as Hogan for saying something racist in their lifetime. People need to learn to forgive others. God said if we can't forgive our brothers then how will He forgive us of our sins. And we're all sinners.
Piper looks tired here. He's still Piper doing his thing. He was dancing around the Hogan thing, but got lost on the way. You can tell he's had medical issues (Brian injuries) and other health issues that were effecting his ability to focus. He always did have ADHD. It wasn't drugs or anything like that. That's just how he was. After cancer, other than medical marijuana while he was have no chemo, he didn't mess around with anything drug or alcohol wise. Back in the day, sadly everyone was partying and using steroids. He admitted he did, though not do much that it screwed up his career, like with Scott Hall and X Pac, or his marriage. I always liked him as a kid, and as an adult I noticed he was one of the few guys who always wore his wedding ring in action, and stayed married to the same woman for for over 30 years. That's impressive when you look at everyone else in the wrestling profession.
+Todd Reeder Most of them passed away before 50. A couple of others, Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man Randy Savage were in their 50s. Piper made it to 61.
In the Pit with Piper Book by Robert Picarello Here, in his own words, is the story of one of the greatest wrestlers ever-Rowdy Roddy Piper. The bagpipe-playing legend gets down and dirty about the world of professional wrestling-and his own career. www.amazon.com/Pit-Piper-Rowdy-Roddy/dp/0425187217
This man always had so much pain in him, you could see it in his eyes. Some stuff happened to this guy, bad stuff, but he turned into gold as a great entertainer. Loved him. Best on the mic ever
And a few days after this interview the guy drops dead. Life is so short and you never know when your gonna go. Enjoy the life you have while you have it.
Anyone with a brain can see something is terribly wrong with him here, trouble breathing, losing train of thought, etc..not to mention the medication he was overusing according to autopsy reports..just sayin chief..
Wow poor Roddy sounds like he is very weak right here. You can hear in his voice that he is struggling to get his sentences out, and to all the idiots that are saying he is high you are very dumb. My granddad sounded just like this right before he died. We all knew something was wrong because he sounded like he was under water. Rowdy Roddy Piper sounds just the same. Man it sucks that he was feeling this bad before he died. Rest in Peace Hot Rod and I hope to see you in heaven.
Why don’t you guys delete this. Roddy Piper means so much to so many people. I’m a grown man and rarely cry, but this makes me cry. This guy was my hero as a kid..and still is. Rich Eisen you’re a jerk.
Shocked and saddened to hear the news. And yeah, it is the anabolic steroids that kills these guys between 50 and 60 years old. It damages the heart by either enlarging it,damaging the valves or clogging the arteries with plaque. Arnold schwarzenegger had his valve replaced at age 50. If you have never seed his movie 'They Live' 1988, go rent it. Great movie that was ahead of it's time. R.I.P. Roddy Piper.
Superstar Billy Graham abused steroids for about 15 years, yet he's still doing okay aged 72. If you die early or not doesn't depend only on steroid use, it depends on what your diet is and how your lifestyle is. Although I really doubt that Roddy Piper was someone who truly consumed this kind of stuff, he never really was a big and muscular guy.
Skulldetta If by "doing okay" you mean he's still alive, that much is true, but Graham has had a wealth of serious health issues beginning in his early 40's that he himself blamed entirely on steroid abuse. That was why he had to end his in-ring career before he wanted to.
Christopher Neeme ...aaand of course let's not forget where he said in an interview that he will probably die within two years because his kidneys slowly start to decline and the doctors consider him too old and sick to try finding a donator. But hell, that he even made it to this age shows what a tough s.o.b. he is.
Steroids are bad, and can do damage, buts it's the pain killers that are most lethal. Take a look at all the premature deaths in wrestling and almost all can be traced to pain killer addiction-overdose's and heart problems related to it. A lot of wrestlers that did steroids are still alive, but there are barely any survivors of over the age of 55 that were addicted to LEGAL painkillers.
chad fw Pain killers attack respiratory and football players use them as much as wrestlers do, if not more. It's a combination of factors that are killing wrestlers. There rock stars who live similar lives but have more time off from wrestling, as it's a terrible occupation.
I LOVED Piper but I am having the hardest time watching this. He's out of breath and his mind is all over the place. Hard to track. Look at Rich's eyes. He's looking to his producers like "What the hell is he talking about?"
Dude whats wrong with these hosts ?!?!, first of all Roddy stories are funny great but these host look like they are about to go into heart surgery, second they couldn't comprehend the story of Andre the giant flipping over the car!!! No comprehension skills or sense of humor what so ever, the young generation sucks!...
It seems to me in this interview when asked about Hogan's scandal, it seemed that he was trying to at first deflect from answering it to rambling on about certain instances concerning himself because he didn't want to talk badly about his friend and I can understand that!!
Thank to all of the comments that speak positively of his character. The A and E biography included a couple clips of this interview and Piper had passed away shortly afterwards. It’s very bone chilling, definitely gone too soon !
If you recorded what everyone says in the privacy of their own home, we would all be fired and called racists. So tired of this social justice hypocrisy garbage.
Love Piper but it is a little shocking to see him in this interview. He is suddenly so fat, really swollen. It looks like he has a pillow up his shirt. I wonder if it was congestive heart failure, he is definitely retaining fluid. His hands and face are puffy, bet his feet are swollen too. Miss Roddy, he was always a favourite but wasn't taking care of himself.
I'm reading all your comments and I just want to ask: How focused and 'healthy-looking' are most people a week before they pass away from cardiac arrest? I see some of you posting or insinuating that he was high on something that day. Roddy's always been open about what he put in his system and perhaps those things shortened his life but isn't it more probable that he was feeling sick the day of the interview? He died just a few days later. He looks sick to me here, not high. Anyway, I love you Hotrod. You were the greatest villain in wrestling history and you were a tremendous performer. Rest In Peace.
I'm a tribute wrestler for rowdy roddy piper and I got his blessing to be his mini me and use his name. I'm more than honoured and I never seen such a beautiful man. He's a sweetheart. I loves to hear him say "yes you can, sweetheart." I miss you so much. I love you so much Roderick George Toombs.
I remember seeing this live and I was so sad after I watched it because you could just feel he was not in good health. He died not too long after it. R.I.P HOT ROD
....ugh.......so sad. Each time I met him, he was super cool and never said no to a picture. To the Toombs family, you should be very proud of him and how he's touched millions of lives. :( Damn, feels like I just lost a family member........
Rowdy likely developed C.R.T by this point, many wrestlers and pro footballers have got it from multiple concussions, Roddy wasn't a drinker or drugger.
I’m so glad I was able to meet him And chat with him, he was one of the most genuinely nice people I’ve ever met, I met him about a year before he passed he seemed tired and a little soft spoken but so friendly
My word, what Hogan said he said it 8 years ago. I guess everyone that is criticizing Hogan has nothing in there past that they regret. If you say you don't your a liar.
Hard to believe that 6 days after this he was gone. Definately all over the place in this segment, but you had to be familiar with how he spoke and how he told a story to understand the man. At times it seemed like he knew what he wanted to say but he couldnt get it out.
my favorite toy when i was 6 or 7 years old was a LJN 8-inch rubber rowdy roddy piper toy ,(i still have it to this day) ,i remember watching saturday night main event on nbc with my uncle ,the first time i saw it was 1988 and i have watched wrestling every single week since then especially in 1993 when raw first aired and the only time i have missed an episode is when i was in the hospital, although its not as good as it yousta be it has been getting better ,especially in the last 2 years
This was just a week ago before his passing. he seemed very random and out of it here. I don't know how healthy he was at this time as I know many folks in their 60s and they don't sound or look this bad. All these wrestlers dying so young. I don't know if its the steroids or something else but damn we just lost another one. Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, Dusty Rhodes now another icon Roddy Piper. Just rough to see. This was a hard interview to watch. He just looked rough here. At least we got one last moment before you left us. RIP Piper. Gone but not forgotten. :(
My dad would watch roddy piper wrestle against Chavo Guerrero Sr at the Grand Olympic Auditorium back in the days. Its sad watching Piper's last interview considering he was awesome on the mic. Rest in Peace, Dad, and Piper.
I like Rich but he is just looking for Piper to trash Hogan and call him a racist. Not interested in any of Pipers interesting stories. Just chasing the racist narrative. I like how he told the story of the NFL guys starting trouble and getting abused and arrested. Eisen should have called in sick this day. Anyone could have done a better job interviewing Hot Rod!
