Being a soprano put into the alto section, this was SO helpful. My voice tends to go higher than this range and it confuses my fellow altos. Performing this tomorrow, thank you for uploading this!

Jasmineee65 i know this comment is 3 yrs old but if you're a soprano than the person who set up the choir is screwed up lol, you should be put into the right spot for your range. Or someone can totally hurt their voice, even from singing too low; my family has been countless choirs back in the day and they had to sing on their own and show what their true range was and was put in the correct place in the choir. It always bugs me people dont know how to properly put people in the right sections cause yes they totally throw off the others and clash.

Thank you Radio3 for posting this--definitely the best set of Hallelujah chorus practice aids I've found on RU-vid. I haven't sung it in many years and always sang soprano, but found out a week ago that I'm singing it tonight--but the alto part! I think I have it all memorized, but this and the recording with everyone but the alto are just great--I can keep practicing even when I'm not sitting at the keyboard! Thanks again.

There is this sentiment that Alto parts are either extremely easy (basic harmony and repetition) to insanely difficult and range-y. Guess which one this is? For beginners this is great to start with.

Thank you! This is the best recording I have found on RU-vid to help people learn the alto part. I'm not a trained singer and I don't read music and I'm going to be taking part in the Halle Orchestra's Drivetime Choir in a week's time - now, I feel confident.

@tulinho3004 I'm a soprano but the choir director put me in the alto section because we needed more of them. He also liked that I can read music. The soprano section is short now so I'm back in to soprano section this year.

@tulinho3004 yeah. I think it's mostly because there is usually a shortage of altos, so the Mezzos, sort of the in-betweeners, are placed in Alto, usually. Unless, of course, their voice significantly changes (which actually does happen. A girl in my choir is an alto, but is rising to suspiciously soprano levels). I've been placed in alto all my life, and didn't find out till college that I was a mezzo. not gonna lie, I was pretty miffed.

This is great! I'm trying to find something similar for Bach's "Magnificat D", Faure's "Requiem" and Beethoven's "Ninth". Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. I stumbled on ChordPerfect by chance and it was very helpful but I want to know what else exists out there.

I guess there's no accounting for assumptions, huh? :) so sorry Music isn't appreciated in your area! Good luck singing Bass! we both will struggle through those low, low notes! :D
