All of the Haddonfield scenes were filmed in South Pasadena, California. The Myers house was moved a short distance from its original location (but still in South Pasadena) a number of years ago and is now located across the street from "hardware store" that Michael broke into to steal rope, knives and mask. That "hardware store" is now a restaurant. The mask is a William Shatner "Captain Kirk" mask, painted white. As to why a hardware store would have masks, I've encountered some small town hardware stores that carry a variety of items not generally associated with hardware. This must be one of those types of stores that is really a hardware store / general store type.

Right -- more of a general store. That makes more sense. Ah, the age before big box stores, eh? I still cannot get over the Kirk mask!!!!!!!!!

@@okchristina just in case you're curious on how he (Michael The Boogeyman/The Shape Myers) inexplicably pops/shows up/disappears/vanishes he was originally designed/made 2 be an almost Supernatural Force (Superhuman Physique (Durability + Arm Strength of unknown degree/limit that/which grows with every kill he commits) who's Supernaturally edged: Supernatural Healing Factor from each kill he commits plus seemingly has some kind/sort/form of Teleportation) a virtually indestructible/unkillable/unstoppable Evil Force of Nature that's loose though he may appear/look/seem human 2 both of ya except he's not entirely human otherwise he would've died as well as stayed dead from every fatal physical injury that's been done 2 him such as getting hit in the face/head by a big/huge handheld rock or bag/sack full of bricks!

The creepy part of the movie is the music and Michael being just about indestructsble. The jump scares were pretty impressive and it is considered a masterpiece. It paved the way for many horror films. It is the perfect movie on Halloween night.

This movie scared the bejeesus out of me as a kid. I must have been forced to watch it by friends in the early-mid 80s. Scarred me for years.

Being forced to watch a horror movie is like riding a roller coaster in the dark. It's just much more scary when you don't know what's coming!! I was scarred for life by The Exorcist at a sleepover. That whole series is probably on the NO list for this channel!!

Another Carpenter masterpiece, he also did some fun films Starman was his ET like film, Escape from New York, and Big Trouble in Little China are his action film classics. Hope you eventually watch them all. Fun watch, your breakdown was very well done.

Thank you & so glad you enjoyed! I think it is a masterpiece in its originality and concept alone. I definitely am going to continue on with watching more Carpenter films.

Just so you know…. The Halloween series has 4 different storylines. 1. H1 and H2 2. H1, H2, H4, H5, H6 3. H1, H2, H H20, H Resurrection 4. H1, H 2018, H Kills, H Ends The Halloween series originally meant to be a anthology which is why Halloween 3 is a different story. But when H3 was released they realized people wanted more Michael Myers. Also it’s 2 complete remakes by a director named Rob Zombie who came out with H 2007 and H2 2009.

The riddle for Christina is... if Halloween was made in 1978 and The Thing was made in 1982, how can it be on the TV??? Also, the mask is actually a William Shatner Halloween mask. They cut off the sideburns and eyebrows, teased the hair, cut out the eye sockets and painted it white, lol!!! Oh, and can you believe this movie was made for $320,000 and has made hundreds of millions worldwide...
@okchristina
@okchristina 8 месяцев назад
Because it was the original The Thing that I still would like to see!!!!! Carpenter was obviously already interested in that film! And I cannot believe that is a Shatner mask. I will never look at it the same again. OOOMMMMGGGGG

"It's Halloween. Everyone's entitled to one good scare." Fun Fact: Shot in 20 days in the spring of 1978. Fear Factor Fact: As the film was shot out of sequence, John Carpenter created a fear meter so that Jamie Lee Curtis would know what level of terror she should be exhibiting. Unintended Trope Fact: John Carpenter and Debra Hill have stated many times over the years that they did not consciously set out to depict virginity as a way of defeating a rampaging killer. The reason why the horny teens all die is simply that they are so preoccupied with getting laid that they don't notice that there is a killer at large. On the other hand, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) spends a lot of time on her own and is therefore more alert. Casting Notes Fact: John Carpenter considered the hiring of Jamie Lee Curtis, her theatrical debut, as the ultimate tribute to Alfred Hitchcock who had given her mother, Janet Leigh, legendary status in Psycho (1960). The adult Michael Myers was portrayed by Nick Castle in almost every scene, except for some pick-up shots and the unmasking scene, where he was replaced by Tony Moran. Castle was a school-buddy of John Carpenter, and was on set just to watch the movie be filmed. It was at the suggestion of John Carpenter that he took up the role of Michael Myers, as he was tall and had what Carpenter considered an interesting walk. Castle admitted he was disappointed to not be the face shown, but understood that Carpenter wanted a more "angelic" face to juxtapose with Myers' ghastly deeds. Castle has gone on to become a successful director.

20 days??? It is cool that this horror film was a legacy project for mother and daughter! I guess love can make you blind in multiple ways?? I'll have to look into Castle to see what he has done. Thanks!

It was a film under $ 500.000 This is why people felt it was one of the best films ever for that budget It was just going to be a slasher film A movie that was never to make it But it succeeded People asked for more and more!

Nice reaction Christina, Halloween is a classic the sequels are more intense with Halloween(except 3, it's not a Myers story) originally he wanted to do an anthology series but when 3 didn't do that well because Myer's wasn't in it, others jumped at the opportunity to continue Michael's story until many years later in 2018 that Carpenter would get involved directly again. What I love about Michael is that he's the first *supernatural slasher* before the Jason's, Chucky's, Freddy's etc, etc which is cool. So yes you're correct. Also as a big Halloween fan, there's different timelines of Michael. You have H1(this movie) H2 the next movie, (skip H3 it's literally it's own thing though there's a scene with this movie advertised on a tv as a little easter egg) H4, H5, H6 also known as the thorn timeline digs deeper into Michael's evil and such. Then you have the second timeline which is H1, H2 and ignores H4, H5 and H6 completely goes straight to 20 years after the first two movies to H20 and then Resurrection after H20 both with Jamie Lee Curtis. Then you have Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween and Halloween part II. It's an entirely different take and more of a different universe all together than timeline as it's not Carpenter's version. This version he's more grounded let's just say. Then you have the recent trilogy aka Blumhouse Halloween Trilogy that's continuity is 40 years after this movie here H1, skips H2 onward and just jumps from H1 to 40 years later with Halloween 2018, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. John Carpenter got involved in this trilogy for the first time getting directly involved since the first 3 Halloween movies. Recently Miramax won the bidding rights to future Halloween projects there will be a TV series and a reboot of the entire franchise but no word yet on exact details. Enjoy!
