Two things hit me, other than this being a great video. First, your shirt says Round Rock ,Tx. My step son moved there a couple months ago and started a handyman service, so if anyone looking.... When you pulled out a rotting latex puppet, I was making sandwiches so I think you said puppet, I thought of Team America. I was talking to the Chiodo brothers, Killer Klowns, you likely have run across them, with my friend who was one of the lead puppeteers in Team America. I asked about the puppets and thought the Chiodos might have them since my friend Didn't. I found out they are rotting away in a warehouse owned by whatever studio owned the production. Breaks my heart. The rot is why I am team silicone rubber
@StiltbeastStudios
@StiltbeastStudios Год назад
YEah, but the fact that it will rot gives it more value while its here- Faberge eggs are only valuable because they are so easy to break. but yeah, it would be nice if they lasted forever.
@stevevaughn2040
@stevevaughn2040 Год назад
@@StiltbeastStudios I wish they gave them to the artist. You have a point about value, the survivor puppets are special. I was told, not sure if true, that latex hates light and heat isn't the big killer. Axtel puppets come, last I checked a few years ago, in latex or silicone
@StiltbeastStudios
@StiltbeastStudios Год назад
UV light is the worst thing for latex. That is 100% true.

@StiltbeastStudios
@StiltbeastStudios Год назад
its a natural material like wood or leather, so moisture, oil and salt all take a toll, actors produce all 3- UV light is also a huge detriment.

Congratulations for over 100 thousand subs! Halloween is coming up and I am finding I am not as excited about it as I have been for 60 years. I have been doing Pro haunts for half my life (I think we meet once at a party in Vegas Transworld). Now I just do animatronic shooting galleries for Halloween parties as a side gig just for "fun". But this year I am tired, lots of back pain and not feeling the carefree abandonment to spend the money and effort on making new items. How do you keep your focus and enthusiasm? Maybe you just love it more than I do in the end. The silly thing was last year was one of my best (shooting gallery) ever but I spent way too much money and hurt my back (in bed for two days).

Thank you for the kind words. I hope you mend quickly! Making props and masks and doing haunted house stuff is more of a calling for me. QUESTION: If you were to paint the shop towels first and let them dry would the contact cement still work?
@StiltbeastStudios
@StiltbeastStudios Год назад
I guess it would but the contact cement is going to discolor your original paint. So your new paint would have to match the discolored paint as opposed to the original color. I don't see why you would not want to paint it all as one piece.

Thanks so much for all the helpful hints. The mask came out perfect! Question: Is casting latex same as the liquid latex from a halloween store? I need to change the color on latex mask, but just a home haunter here ....not a big haunt
@StiltbeastStudios

Liquid latex is much thinner and doesn’t have as much ammonia in it. Casting latex is thicker and what we make masks out of. It is the same stuff but liquid latex has a lot more water.

You are truly the professor! Every video you make, I learn something new. Thank you so much for your content! I have an original Distortions electric chair. He has to be close to 30 years old. The man's body is deteriorating rapidly. It needs to be repaired. It's made out of that really thick foam, with latex paint? over it and it's just rotting rotting rotting. Cutting chunks out of it, I don't believe is an option. Is there anything you'd recommend that I can spray on there to stop the rot? Or do you think your contact cement on Blue shop towels could work. It seems like it would be tedious to rip and blend it into the entire upper torso. Also I don't paint even half as good as you do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm going to Reynolds material tomorrow to see if they have any options. Thank you for being one if the best parts of this industry!
@StiltbeastStudios
@StiltbeastStudios Год назад
the paper towel and contact cement will help- its worth restoring and the time it would take- do you intent to use it still?
@EGSCARY
@EGSCARY Год назад
@StiltbeastStudios Yes, I totally use it every year. I restored all of the electronics, and I have it set on a timer, so I do electric chair shows every 30 minutes in my display on my front lawn. I bought uv-protective spray that is supposed to be good for latex. Although I have not applied it yet. For the most part, he's in the shade when he's outside. It's outside about a month and a half every year. This has an electric motor, not the pneumatics, but it does get jerked pretty hard when he activates. The total show run time is 30 seconds shakes violently for about 20 seconds.
@StiltbeastStudios
@StiltbeastStudios Год назад
On the cracked exposed foam areas: Take E6000 glue and thin that with mineral spirts. You can paint it on, it’s clear and it will soak in and stabilize the foam as well as making a skin on top. On the neck area which gets the most motion, I would do paper towels and latex- like 3 layers- because that area gets a lot of movement and don’t’ be stingy with the latex. It’s a little stretchier than contact cement so I would use that in the neck area.

Hey Allen thanks for the reply about making bones! Great help. Do you have any plans on doing a pool noodle archway? Like a roots/tree kind of look or anything! My 5 year old daughter is your biggest fan here in uk. She always ask for "the halloween mans video's"😂

What is your daughter’s name so I can give her a shout out on my archway video? I do have one coming up in either late September or early October.

Oh that's great. I'll have the pool noodles at the ready! She's called Talliah ( pronounced Tally-a) I can't wait to see her face when you do. Thankyou!

I'm working on a self made "Bebop" bust from Tmnt . (He was supposed to look like he was just in battle) My coagulated blood I applied to his mouth is beginning to flake and peel off.. (this is a mix of stage blood and Elmer's glue) any tips or products You can suggest that would be a better alternative?

Will the paint help with keeing the laytex from rotting in UV?
@StiltbeastStudios

depends on the paint- UV resistant polyurethane will for sure.

That mask he's using for parts looks like a poor knock off of an Attack on Titan mask. LOL

its just a skull, I think its a knock off of a CFX silicone mask to be honest.

So blue shop towels will help fix a mask? I have a kinda old one that it's like the mask is melting.. I don't know what happened to it and it was one of my favorite mask. If the shop towels help fix it then I could redo the mask

@@StiltbeastStudios so it will help fix it? It an evil clown with one side looks like he was in a fire.

Yes, you have to cut out the sticky parts because that will rot but it is the same process you saw me do. For masks, because they’re hollow, I will often tape them together in the back so they hold their shape and then I will do the contact cement with paper towels in the front as my patch.

@@StiltbeastStudios Alright thank you. I hope it turns out good. Don't know if I want to leave it how it is or make it be a mask for my movie.

I have a spirit halloween half torso guy hanging from a noose. He needs repaired badly. What would you charge? It would be face and arms.
@StiltbeastStudios

I just taught you how to do it ! you do it. My fee would definitely be more than a spirit Halloween prop is valued at, is it really sentimental? Im more utilitarian that restoritive as fas as these go.
