Once paid a dude for his xbox account because he had recon. He then stole his account back and ran off with my money. It was a bitter pill to swallow in my recon desperation...
Didn't innovate much at all off of Halo 2, they just did everything right (really, really well) and added enough small stuff the community got to make more awesome stuff. Forge would be the biggest innovation they had with file share, beyond that the game is pretty similar to Halo 2. It's organic growth was the biggest factor in it being what it was. No game really has that these days. They sell the devs names or an IP no matter how shit it is, influencers peddle it as the second coming (of shit). Shame that Bungie is dead now, they never hit that magic with Destiny. Then again, a lot of them stayed with 343 and they have right awful leadership. Couple that with bad design choices and they don't come close.
I think the maps on Halo 3 is one thing that really stands out from all the later Halo games. During and after Halo Reach, the Identity and DNA of the first three Halo games got kind of muddled.
Yeah the maps in Halo 3 is unbelievably good. Each map has it's own theme and the flow of gameplay is remarkably smooth. Even the lighting and all the skill jumps is still outstanding
Like I said in the video, I'd appreciate it a tonne if you guys and gals shared this video around. If you've got some old friends who you used to play the 360 Halo games with, send it their way! Let's finish the fight one last time #Halo360.
I got chills watching the believe marketing again, easily the best marketing campaign for Halo. Halo 3 is the greatest game of all time for me, because it's the perfect package and released when gaming was at it's peak. Awesome video as always Laper 🙌
Completely agree 110%, Halo 3 was the reason I got an Xbox 360 so many years ago and it will always be my favourite game. Also I still love your videos, keep up the great uploads :)
I've said it for a decade at least, the gaming industry creatively crashed in 2010 and has not recovered since. We've had good games, but the level of what we get just isn't the same anymore.
@@elimgarak1127 I'd only agree with you when it comes to AAA shooters for the most part, though DOOM 2016 and Eternal, Titanfall 2, and Splatoon are extremely good examples for the contrary.
it breaks my heart that the soul and passion put into H3 hasn't been matched by any Halo or FPS since. Such a polished game all around, with so many great memories attached to it. So many friends made, that sadly have slipped away over the years. After H4 dropped was when I last talked to the majority of those people, but watching this makes me want to go down my friends list and invite them all to a custom lobby for old times sake❤️ Well done man
16:06 I much preferred the rewards/customisation when they were focused on actually rewarding people for having fun exploring the game, rather than as a ruse to squeeze more playtime or money out of you. Every game since H3 has been a step backwards in this regard, imo.
Couldn't agree more man. Grinding out skulls so I could rock the katana was so much fun. It was the peak of my childhood, alongside good ol' RuneScape. Pretty cool to see you here btw, big fan :)
As someone whose been around halo for 16 years this video was beautiful, It truly felt like a love letter to the series and the games on 360. Thank you. Vids like this remind me why I'm so fond of fan created content as you were talking about. I remember watching arby n the chief and all the othe crazy machinmas on an early and growing RU-vid via windows xp . I will be definitely pulling out my 360 from the closet and playing some Halo before the servers are gone for good. Sad times indeed but ill carry the memories forward with me as we march on.
Goddam, Halo 3 is so special... I remember just playing the campaign cause I didn't have live, making my own maps in forge, playing with my brother, searching the mysterious skulls, watching top ten series on YT, RvB, fails of the week. Damn this game truly was something else! This video brings me back to everyone talking about Halo, friends of mine even talked about how Cortana level on legendary was unbeatable... I miss so much those days :( every time I play the original halo 3 disc and watch the menu something inside feels so beautiful, I can't really put it to words but I know I'm not the only one. I liked Halo Infinite a lot, but watching this video makes me understand we are still miles away from the peak of Halo and also miles away from the peak of gaming in general, gaming has changed so much and not for the better... Halo 3 man... 2007, it feels so weird looking now 14 years back and still feeling it so close... I'm not exactly sure what I miss but Halo 3 is always the thing that sparks that feeling of missing my childhood, my life, my family... We are so far from those days and I don't want the time to keep passing by and all these memories be just held in the past. I just want time to slow down a bit again and enjoy things more as I used to... Thank you Halo 3, the best video-game I've ever played. See you Spartans January 13th for the last time.
Rip halo on the Xbox 360 i will never forget those mountain Jew fuelled matches, the betrayal boots, and the sheer panic that seeing a helmet on a enemy could bring #halo 360
I love how us Zoomers have unique memories for Halo. It was literally our childhood. Others had Flintstones, He-Man, Tom n Jerry. Ours was Halo and seeing those live action trailers only gave us more of an emotional connection.
I kinda grew up with it. I was 9 playing ce with my cousins in 2001, halo 2 got me through my parents devorce and was the reason I made friends when we moved. And halo 3 got me through all that angsty high school crap lol sent it out with reach as we all graduated. Kept in touch long distance over 4, taking about jobs and paying rent, don’t play much 5 together. But at almost 30 now infinite is slowly bringing some of us together again. Halo 3 definitely got me through the most. And I have the most memories with my friends in 3. Sad to see the servers go.
Met my best friend and best man in middle school playing this game on release date. We knew each other, but he invited me over and as we sat there listening to the music in the menu, we went through something together that meant more than words. This was such a legendary experience, and I had a ton of memories playing as Arbiter and an Elite in multiplayer. Finally got an XBox 360 for Christmas and good God, the memories I made were very special. Even when you can’t pin down specific memories, just the emotion that I bet we all must have for this game is unreal. I remember watching Rammstein w/ Halo 3 adverts and Landfall so many fucking times. For all here, you’re all my brothers, and I would go into battle with you any day.
I’ll defend Snowbound being fun even if no one else will dammit! My first game of Xbox Live in 2009 was on there, and it was the start of my true love for 3’s Multiplayer! Anyway awesome video. I love this game so much, so seeing its servers finally go down is pretty saddening. It had a Hell of a run. Also good lord I can’t believe I recognized all those Machinma videos you used as an example. I feel old.
I am still very disappointed that they scrapped the reveal of the Forerunner actually being ancient Humanity, leading to the awful background 343 wrote for them.
As one of many who got to enjoy this fantastic game during its prime. I don't think I'll ever be ready to say goodbye... Halo 3 will forever have a special place in my heart and the memories I made playing it, I will forever cherish. This video really gave me alot of nostalgia it was well put together. I can see alot of time and effort was put into this, thank you for spreading the word for our beloved Halo 3.
This video gives me so much nostalgia. Halo 3 is by far my favorite game in the series and honestly my favorite game of all time. The montage community was so fun to be a part of, but even just the community in general was great. I met so many people in random games that were awesome people and it turned into friendships
This came out when I was a sophomore in high school and I was wearing a halo 3 shirt the day of launch SCREAMING AT EVERYBODY IN MY SCHOOL. Needless to say 60% of the school was also screaming. The hype was so real for halo 3 I've never experienced anything like it.
I still turn on my Xbox 360 put in halo 3 and pray that matchmaking will come back !!!!! It really was the best gaming experience ever. Home from work, straight to Halo 3 for over 5 years , loved to help boost kids to 50 in 2v2 😢. Made so many online buddies. Bring back the Halo 3 server's for all us Halo 3 die hards , please 🙏
Fuck me man… this video game me such joy yet regret and sadness. I played a good bit on the last day and made some final good memories and fell in love with what really I grew up on one last time. I’ve turned 20 this year and it’s poetic in the fact that the classic halos are ending as well as my childhood/teenage life. Halo has and the classic bungie helped drive me and is part of my passions and daily life now. This is the first day of the new era. It’s not a very good one but I believe if people bring back those memories and ideas of what was and implement them into modern day maybe one day we will have another halo 3 game. But nothing will ever match halo 3. That game single handedly sparked millions of people’s love and interest. You are an example of that as you created this video in memory of this beloved game. Halo infinite has sparked some of that same feeling especially in its music and atmosphere but man… what I would give to live one day again back in 2009 and play halo 3 on legendary with my dad and my uncles. When I look back in my life those days will forever be the best I could have asked for. Halo 3 did something no other series could have done for me. To all of the classic bungie team I personally thank all of them for what they did in helping to create an amazing childhood and for driving my passion and interest today!
This is a GREAT video. Just crazy the different perspectives from someone who watched the trailers and commercials as a 6 year old like you and a 15 year old like I was. Certain video games connect us a special way
I never got to experience halo 3 during its golden age but the game had a huge impact on me regardless. First time I played was at my friends house, we were going through his brother’s collection of games when we stumbled upon halo 3. Having no idea what halo was but being enticed by the cover, we popped it in the 360 and were immediately met with one of the best starting screens and soundtracks in all of gaming. We dove straight into the campaign, and man did that luck cutscene give me goosebumps. The buildup of the music perfectly synced with chief getting closer and closer as he fell from space. When it came to the gameplay, I had a blast. I duel wielded every weapon I came across, got my ass kicked by chieftains, and spammed grenades at wraiths as my friend ran around them to form a distraction. When we saw a scarab for the first time, we were in total awe and had no idea how to take it out, we must’ve been shooting ar rounds at it for half an hour before we learned to go for its legs. That day will always stick with me. It was some of the most fun I’ve ever had with a game and was my introduction to the halo franchise as a whole. I went on to get up my own copy of Halo 3, complete the campaign several times (including on legendary), attempt a 50 in multiplayer, and spend countless hours fucking around with friends on custom games. Halo 3 was truly a masterpiece, it delivered in every department and is unrivaled to this day. Great video, you’ve earned yourself a sub!
Midnight launch for Halo 2 and Halo 3 are experiences I’ll never forget. The excitement being there in-person is something that doesn’t happen these days.
I saw the title and started this video before going to bed. Didn't think much of it aside from "yea, I guess the game is older now and it's time to move on to bigger better things" But the title and general mood had stuck with me all night. I'm really going to miss halo 3.
I was 4 when Halo 3 came out and it was the only game I played for like 5 years of my life until I finally got another game. Halo 3 will forever be in my heart. I replayed the campaign all the time and just sat in forge all day.
Halo 3 Xbox live era holds some of my most cherished memories of my entire life and I met some life long friends playing competitive halo online. And just have tons of memories and stories from online experiences and in person at the 2010 mlg denver event. Oh what a time to be alive. And thankfully halo infinite seems to ge reigniting my nostalgia and interest in halo for the first time in years. I kept playing h3 360 for a long time after reach and 4 released and damn those were some of the most competitive games of halo I’ve ever played online it was epic. We salute you halo
It feels like with each new video you upload it gets better and better. I don't even have any tips or criticism this time because honestly it was perfect. Literally glued to my screen the entire video, and that ending was fucking great. I hope you're really proud of that ending sequence with the music because it turned out amazing man. Really awesome to see you improve and I can't wait for the next one.
That brilliantly captured the emotion and awe of the Era when the game came out and when the call to action came in at the end I was all up in my feelings lol well done my man!👏 👏
The 360 Era has ended. I think I speak for all of us when I say it's been one Hell of a Great Journey. The games we played, the maps we designed, the custom game modes we made, the friendships we forged eventually never saw again, The memories we shared. This was the real great Journey all along. We were just too busy having fun it realise it.
im 21 and have never had home internet and will never experience halo 3 multiplayer but just knowing how much it means to the halo community is enough. For us, the storm has passed... the war is over. But let us never forget the memories and friends made along the way.
@@LaperLarden 6, which like lots of modern games launched with less content than the priors, had some balancd problems and was overly focused in microtransactions. But it also didnt do well, so it got abandoned. It didnt have a tag mode for instance. I remember the Halo level in the 4th one, it was quite cool. However the Microsoft connection is effectively gone now, and the original director has been gone since the 4th entry anyway. Like outside of Forza, every Xbox associated game series has been on the decline. Halo, DOA, Gears, Fable. Shame really
Oh god. The Vidmaster Challenges. Many hours were spent in that, and I was one of those that unlocked Recon along with every other cosmetic. There will never be a game I'll be as nostalgic for, and wish I could go back in time to experience it again in it's full glory. If heaven exists, it's sitting comfortably at home, with a lobby of friends playing endlessly in custom mode. My only regret was never being able to get the Overkill achievement. One achievement short of the full 100%. Man, this video gives me a feeling of loss, but also a setting of tranquility. Knowing that I'll never again experience this game in the same setting of the times, is a humbling experience. Long Live Halo 3. THE greatest game of all time.
Always brings a tear to my eye seing these Laper Larden Halo Retrospectives. You've always gotta evoke the nostalgia and the emotion that has followed me through the years with these games. And Marty's OST's will forever bring that tear to my eye. He did an amazing job making a soundtrack that will NEVER be forgotten and helped make all these Halo games that much better. We probably wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for his outstanding talent and devotion to the series. Respect for Marty, for all those that developed Halo, that are developing Halo, and for you Laper Larden, for giving us One Final Effort to Finish The Fight! #HALO360
I will miss those days, so many memories damn I remember when everyone went nuts when halo 3 released I remember when I played it on my dads 360 (which he barely used) and he bought me a dominos pizza and left me to play it in my living room which to me was a day I will always remember when I played it my jaw dropped and I was hyped as I was playing it especially the music and graphics for that time if time travel was possible I’d go back and relive those days…
Bravo man. Halo 3 will always be my favorite halo game and video game with the best campaign story, characters, gameplay, graphics, soundtrack, emotion, multiplayer, etc
I am so glad that even to this day, people still remember the Xbox360 edition of Halo 3. I hope I never forget the friends I made playing infection and CTF.
I started yesterday to gather the remaining achievements I need in matchmaking with randoms before the servers shut down. I had so much fun last night with these guys and we're making the last week of halo 3 memorable. I will never forget.
There was so much passion behind that game, releasing it nearly perfect. Today we get a half almost empty game without coop campaign, forge, 15+ pvp maps damn this times went hard, dont blame covid for that.
Modern AAA developer m.o. is to give players as little as possible and charge them the most for it. That is why all the ancillary features in Halo 3 are missing from new releases. If every aspect or feature cannot be monitized, it won't be added to a game.
When I was nearing the end of summertime back in high school, I would keep rolling until I'd get a game on Guardian. The map I trained on the most back then. It became a tradition. One last game on Guardian for the season. My brother somehow agreed to run the send off gauntlet in my stead (since I don't have a 360 in aussie as I'm on overseas study) and the craziest thing happened. He got one game on Guardian in then he figured "Why not run 7 more games?" as a send off lap. Guess what was the last game to round it off? He rolled Guardian BRs for the last and final time and played even better than I could have. (the game was a L, but he put up a darn good fight) Str1ke Ninja got to finish the fight where it began and I couldn't be happier.
Im jealous of those whom have memories with a game as I never played multiplayer as a kid it would have been nice to play multiplayer looking back on it today
I am gonna miss the community for this game. Halo 3 was one of the first games I got on the Xbox 360 in 2012. I had an Xbox Live Gold subscription and it was a free Platinum game that month on the Microsoft Store. Good times.
You mentioned how people with Recon grinded for the Vidmaster achievements, but I'll remind you that it was only possible to get Recon via Vidmaster AFTER Halo 3: ODST released. Before then, you could only get it if Bungie gave it to you. Seeing Recon in those days (I only did once) was a BIG deal. Practically a game-stopper as we all ignored the game to worship whoever had it. A friend of mine was actually going to receive Recon after finding a secret room on Epitaph and sending the footage to Bungie, but they told him that ODST was releasing too soon so they weren't going to give it to him where they otherwise would have. We still respected him tremendously for it, though. This was a long ramble, but man did I love Halo 3 and Recon and Vidmasters, on and on, and I'm going to miss it.
First and foremost, excellent video my friend...you have yourself a new subscriber. I started playing Halo from the very beginning and I haven't missed a single launch in the series. Actually, I haven't missed a single Xbox console launch either including the Series X. Halo was what sold me on the idea of the Xbox especially coming from the Sega Dreamcast and PS2 of which I had both when the first machine dropped but I digress... Halo 3 is my favorite in the series so far and I will never forget the amazing times I had playing it on the 360. I have beaten the third game likely hundreds of times from normal through Legendary with and without friends. One thing...I was never bothered by the button combos and I refused to use them while playing online. I preferred the challenge and I'm a monster in Halo 3. ;)
Thank you for documenting the menus for these games! You low-key saved this video as well. My Xbox One and Series X haven't been able to play 360 titles because of some kind of verification bug with back compat games so I wasn't able to capture anything from them. And seemingly no one in my entire city had a capture card available for sale. So, a quick search for 'Halo 3 Menu' and your video is what I found!
Just came across this. This is great and I'm going to find some time to load up my Xbox 360 and jump on to Halo 3 and Reach. Not sure if I'm going to play Halo 4 but who knows. I might find it and pop it in as well. I did enjoy H4 for the most part but I did find myself going back to Reach for custom games very quickly.
