brandon brooker many people didn't like the music because it wasn't 'Halo-y' enough. Which goes to show how many people don't realise that music changes over time
not sure whether legitimate comment (which I fully support, this track is great!) or a troll reference to the Composer in the campaign which is used when this music is played
New doesn't always mean good, dude. You should know how terribly awful the promethians are design wise. Boring, repetitive, lifeless, cannon-fodder and bullet sponges. Not at all aesthetically pleasing, just silver with some orange glow. Requiem was pretty ugly as a world, if that's what you mean by new world. Pretty much all of the visual redesigns look inferior to every game before it. I did like the new design for the Master Chief, it was a satisfying look, though I still prefer the iconic look. I'll admit I liked the direction of Halo 4, but they all but retconned it in Halo 5 and did no justice with the story. The guy who wrote the story for 5 isn't working on the next game fortunately. As for the music, of course it's good. No one should be saying it's bad music, but what it isn't is Halo music, for the most part, and to be honest, no it wasn't 'kinda expected', no one really knew what Halo 4 was going to be about when it was announced. Some of the compositions fit the bill a little bit, but much was left to be desired. Hopefully they're going back to the kind of memorable music that Halo was known for, as it seems that way, for the most part, from watching the Halo: Infinite trailer. Same with the Iconic art style the series is known for. Though I heard that some of the soundtrack is composed by the composer(s) from Halos 4 and 5, which I'm completely okay with.
Neil Davidges intentions for this song. 0:00 The panic and helplessness of the Didact stealing the Composer. 4:33 The mystery and other worldliness of the of the Composer. 5:25 The terror of the Didact firing the Composer.
Me and my dad were driving home from Joshua Tree a few years ago and it was like 9 pm pitch black out there. I remember this because i was listening to this song when this happened. There was a lot of fog so we could only see about 100 feet in front of us. We were one of the few cars traveling on the freeway back home and out of nowhere there's a fucking sofa in the middle of the road and my dad nearly swerves to avoid it. And I remember that because this song made the whole thing so much more eerie.
This is the kind of song, as far as instrumental goes, that belongs in a plot with someone who has a decision to make, and it will take a lot of strength to do it. But instead of being consumed by doubt and frustration, they drown those emotions with confidence.
I'd go further and say this should be used in a sequel or part of a game that they fail and fall. It sounds so crestfallen, like a huge sacrifice was just made and we don't know if it was the right choice or not.
The notes at 3:00 to 3:16 have an incredibly good setup. Four notes are enough to give me a feeling of evil at the beginning, and a feeling of rightousness at the end. All with just 4 notes
The 3:31 melody has new meaning to me after delving deeper into the story. I think this sweeping, tragic line is the Didact having a small sense of remorse for his plans. He has his own warranted hatred for humans, but they are still his wife’s children and future. In composing humanity, he still betrays his love and The Mantle of Responsibility. I think deep down The Didact has intense conflict within him. Wish we saw that in our “Reclaimer Saga”
Cortana: Are you ok? I monitored the data pulse. I could hear them- what was left of them. Chief: We need to move. Cortana: These people are gone... Chief: And more will follow if the Didact reaches Earth. Cortana: They'll pair you with another A.I.... Maybe even another Cortana model if Halsey lets them- Chief: That's NOT going to happen! Cortana: It won't be me. You know that, right? ...Spinning up a Broadsword in hanger C11. Whatever the Librarian did to you obviously worked. Chief: Cortana. It's not over... not yet. Cortana: Not yet.
“I could hear them… What was left of them…” Is such a fucking scary line. Because they’re not dead, their mind is being twisted to fit the machines of the forerunners.
When you get to hear 3:30 .... you know this is BY FAR the best Halo of the entire saga!!! (maybe after Halo 2) - only understandable for Legendary Players, noobsters step aside please
If you're going to make a soundtrack with a new composer, let him do his own thing and not try to copy the old composer and fail. Neil Davidge was the best part of Halo 4.
@@MsAnnaKate The bridges. It's after you exit the pelican at one of the towers and you start to make your way through it but the didact causes some of the paths to collapse and dissolve and cortana says "He's altering the tower!"
The promeatheans are a more ancient variant of human beings to my knowledge they waged war with the forerunners an attempt to gain access to the proper tech needed to exterminate the flood after hundreds of they're plans to contain the flood were exhausted. So gaining access to the most powerful weapon system known 'halo' didact sent more and more of his men senselessly to they're demise to focus stalling the flood until the halo array was fired. Didact seeing the inevitable retreated back to requiem once he arrived his wife the librarian confronted him due to his betrayal of abandonment of leaving his own soldiers to die vainly to attempt to eradicate the local flood infestation. Although the final plan was a success. But lives of all races were swept away in the blinding light from the firing sequence that was done by halo in the galaxy. That's what the librarian was most furious about so for in result of his betrayal she grabbed a rifle and shot him not to kill him but to weaken him enough to imprison him for 100,000 years
I love the Halo 4 OST. And this is my favourite by far. It has such a dark and mysterious vibe and comes across very promethean. To all the people who preferred Bungies music, go ahead. I agree with you. The classic Halo sound will forever be in my mind. But lets face it, the franchise needed to change. And yes 343 haven’t yet made a perfect Halo game. But 4 & 5 were not that bad. I mean they sold well right? I just wish all the people complaining would stop and kinda appreciate what 343 have done. I believe Halo would have died if it had the same exact combat, same-ish plotline and the same OST. All im saying, is in a way, 343 did Halo a favour. Deal with it. High hopes for Halo: Infinite and I believe that will be where 343 finally gets things perfect. Along with past experience.
F34RLESS I like halo 4 in retrospect, but halo 5 was a poor game in my opinion with the exception of custom games. We should all hope that Infinite is great.
@@masonsmith9619 Halo Infinite situation looks quite worrying to be fair. Gameplay reveal was very disappointing and overall looks like Megablocks, let's see how the 2021 delay go
Honestly love the cinematic quality vibe Neil brought to the soundtrack. He had so much style. This stuff is insane. People say there’s no “Halo” in them, but deep down if you analyze the tracks there’s a lot of Halo in there you just have to find it
It's very good music. But I have to disagree. Fragments of Halo does not make it Halo music. Just like a few grains of sand does not turn a puddle into a sand pile.
There wasn't any Halo in them. That's why they brought Kazuma Jinnouchi on. And it worked, for the most part. If Halo 5 had been as good as Halo 4 story-wise I think people would respect what they tried to do. Maybe not appreciate it, because people clearly wanted more classic Halo gameplay. But as an artistic endeavor, the way they tried to distinguish themselves from the original trilogy can be respected. I mean, Halo 3 was the perfect ending. Does it really make sense to go back to the rings, even if that's what people wanted?
@@TheWorldMemeDatabase The thing is post Halo 3 people were begging for Halo 4. I remember being on the forums back in 07 people were analyzing the heck out of the Halo 3 Legendary ending. In fact Halo Reach was almost Halo 4, but since Bungie only had one game left to make as per their contract they decided with Reach. Imo, Neil’s work didn’t need to be traditional since he was mostly brought in to work on the promothean / forerunner themes since they were new elements to the franchise and needed their own identity. That track that plays when the Didact is release is absolutely epic and the ambient stuff he came up with are really good. A lot of it can still be heard in Halo Infinite. I wanna say the biggest mistake is that they didn’t put the main Halo theme. If they just threw that in, fans would be happy, but I assume that 343 deliberately chose against that. Either way I’m still happy Halo 4 exists. It a nice added flavor to the Halo franchise. The multiplayer is still bad tho
@@EthanRom Yeah they had a mix, it was a good use of two composers. Kazuma was for thematic work and to make it sound a bit more like Halo. Neil was there to set the tone for the new stuff they were doing. I am happy they didn't abandon this tone, Endless is one of my favorite tracks in Infinite and Neil's DNA is all over it.
Vincent Bédard Cortana- They'll pair you with another A.I. Maybe even another Cortana model if Halsey lets them. Chief-That's not going to happen Cortana-It won't be me...you know that right??? Bringing up a broadsword in hangar C 11. Whatever the Librarian did to you obviously worked. Chief-Cortana...it's not over...not yet. Cortana-.....not yet. I may have cried a little.
Imagine the chief and the UNSC Infinity on them last fight against forerunner army leaded by Cortana and what remains of the vanished, they all fighting right over the ancient city of Maethtrillian, Cortana apparently it's about to win, but right before a new AI created by humanity takes control of the forerunner army and eliminates Cortana out of the domain, the AI opens fire against all vanished ships, and destroys the most, humanity appearently won, but just seconds right after this song starts to play... *Slipspace rupture detected**Slipspace rupture detected* *Slipspace rupture detected**Slipspace rupture detected* hundreds of flood ships starts to emerge from slipspace....
Not an new ai created by humans instead of it add mendicant bias on human side with a gigantic human-elite fleet that is about to vanish and at last moment cortana is destroyed but flood with a giant fleet appears with an halo which is under control of flood Mendicant now controls all of the Promethean and now an digitalised ur didact comes back from domain but know as a ally of humans and remnants of banished and atriox sign an temporary alliance with human-elite forces to destroy the flood with one final effort. And this is the unity for which primordial was talking about and the test for humanity and didact forgives mendicant for things he had done 100000 years prior and abadon at maethrillian gives chief access to domain and unlocks all abilities in his geas and then after a long war flood is defeated and galaxy is free if conflicts and master chief personally kills the primordial looking gravemind and gets wounded and then he goes into domain. Story ends here Just an addition to your stories
At the beginning, I imagine some sort of cinematic with an outpost in the dark fog and little movements of the flood are seen. Then as the song progresses it shows even more flood. And at the verry climax of the song the camera pans up slowly showing a massive sea of the flood charging the outpost...
Sends chills down my spine..... No.... it sends icicles, slowly cutting through the ligaments connecting each part of my spine, going downwards, seeming through the flesh. 💀
I won't say Halo 4 was bad but dang man I would just like for the series in their hands to pay off. If 343 just sat down and really thought things through before they sacrifice an arm and a leg they'd be making better games and experiences. This game would have left a longer lasting impression if it played the multi-player closer to Halo 3 and if they invested on a much richer promethean force and requiem world. Its not as bad as a missed opportunity as Halo 5 but there are still missed opportunities with this game.
