I have a feeling Cortana respects Buck because he was one of the original people when Cortana was still with Chief, and she's seen the things he can do so yea maybe she's just wondering why he's not the one giving orders, but for Tanaka, Vale and Locke I'm pretty sure she doesn't respect them at all.

I love how Cortana adjust Rip's at all of the team members. And you know despite the fact that she's meant to be the antagonist of the story for the most part I actually agree with her. "Is she calling me old." Best line.
I like the fact that it's not that she's just ripping into them to be evil, but that she just doesn't deem them to be worthy of the name Spartan. Which, all things considered, COULD be argued as right. Or wrong. It's valid either way.
GZilla311 it's not just that they're not worthy of the term Spartans but in my mind they're not qualified either. It is true that all of the individuals who are part of this fire team are all extremely skilled soldiers. However in my mind they lack the determination that a normal Spartan has. Let's not forget that Spartans were trained from childhood. The first batch of Spartans were obviously taken by less than ideal means butt regardless they are still the original Spartans and therefore the most successful period in fact it wasn't until the Battle of reach that they were all but wiped out. I think in the book they state that up until that point only about 4 Spartans had been lost due to enemy action. Then of course you have the next batch which I feel are not worthy of the term either. Now granted they might have been slightly better in the sense that these individuals were all made up of War orphans. However they were made to be less expensive and put on nearly suicidal missions. There's also the simple fact that they were not product of dr. Catherine Halsey. Which explains why during Halo Reach she expresses a degree of mistrust with them aside from Jorge. Ask Cortana put it there just children playing dress up.
Oh, I agree with you there. Early previews of this team emphasized how they're basically the technological equivalent to the biology-focused Blue Team. That, and it doesn't seem like this entire fireteam is even a team in and of itself, but more like a temporary measure. Like they grabbed a bunch of Spartan IVs and threw them off on a few missions, unlike the more stable Blue Team. That's not to say these are not super soldiers. But calling them Spartans is a bit of an exaggeration at minimum in my opinion. I was mostly bringing up the "valid either way" because people COULD argue they are Spartans. I don't agree with them, but I figure it could be a good argument in that direction, too. Honestly, the whole Spartan IV initiative seems less like a necessary measure and more like a means to save face for ONI.
GZilla311 yeah I'm not sure really bad any of the Spartan fours as we both agree are not really deserving of the name. It might be true that in terms of ethics they are probably a better choice to use voluntary individuals rather than conscripted children butts because they don't have the same level of training as you said they don't gel together as well as say blue team. Buck even said it himself that they're not just a team their family. And while it is true they can be argued whether or not they are really worthy of the term Spartan but in my mind I still feel that they are not worthy of that title but that's just me. And I agree there really isn't any real necessity for a branch of soldiers on the same level as a Spartan following the end of the human-covenant war. In my mind they're less of a military Detachment and more like a secret police force. And they also have some of the most antagonistic individuals in their ranks. Looking at you Sarah Palmer.
