If you still want to take a hair/nail/skin supplement, Deva has some vegan ones (they even have a ceramide supplement). It's still bullshit, but at least it's cheap bullshit.
@Ana-ls8rh

It's not bullshit. My nails used to be very thin and would break easily. After taking skin/hair/nails supplements, they are very thick and strong and never break anymore. My hair also grows much faster now.

Tati uses this herself and she is her own before and after and I trust Tati. She has been on a very long journey to personal health and she wants to help us too. I trust the team of dr's that assisted her. Tati never claimed to prevent or cure gray hair. Her product delays it.

Lara Pauley She uses hair extensions, very expensive skincare and make-up and I suspect her nails are also done professionally. And there was talk about botox. Tati looks good for her age, but that is hardly because of her pills.

It really bothers me how Tati keeps using the word "proven" on her website. I have a degree in biology and my professors always would emphasize that nothing is ever proven, just supported. Studies support theories, they don't necessarily prove theories.
@KaylaSen
@KaylaSen 6 лет назад
Devon Moeller As someone whose finishing their degree in mathematics. If there's not 5 pages using the words "analogously" at least 6 different symbols your average layman can't understand and q.e.d. I approach "proven" with equal amounts of skepticism.
@Al-kw3jh
@Al-kw3jh 6 лет назад
yep, I too have a MSc, and I cringe at "proven". We don't prove anything. Evidence supports claims and theories. We come to a conclusion. We can call correlation, but be carefull to not equal it to causation. Coming from a scientific background, those statements always ring an alarm bell in my head...

Her site says it refuses to accept any liability whether or not you consult a medical professional. What Tati doesn't understand is that she is selling outside the U.S. so in my country at least, she is liable. She is responsible if her product is found to have caused damage. You don't have to prove your claims to our Therapeutic Goods Administration for supplements but you do have to have the studies of proof on hand if they ask for them. If she sells that stuff here and it goes wrong, she is screwed.

Sugar Plum No, I wouldn't. I'd be too lazy to sue anyone unless it was really serious. I'd never buy that sort of stuff. I was just saying she should be careful. There are several countries where she would get in trouble if things go wrong. In that case the individual doesn't have to sue, their government would prosecute for breaking their laws. They've got deep pockets and lots of time. I'm not sure she's aware of that.

Hey! Thanks for making this video. As a doctor, this whole thing got me pretty frustrated. Also, I just wanted to add that her claim of men taking 2000mg of saw palmetto is a straight up lie, the studies made on it had men taking 320mg (which is just double the amount in her supplement). Anyway, thanks for making such a detailed video on it :) Oh, and to that study about astaxanthin that you couldn't see the whole thing: they assessed oxidative stress in the plasma samples using thiobarbituric acid reactive substances assay kit and colorimetry and the samples were also H&E stained and assessed by a cytopathologist. It wasn't assessed by a dermatologist or the subjects themselves. And to end on a quote that one of my professors said: "If you think everything natural is good for you... snake venom is very natural as well but it can most definitely kill you" :P xoxo :)

Just look up the side effects of it for yourself. It is possible to buy from reputable brands that do not use fillers)Does disclose where the pink comes from. On the Halo site only mentions that it's 'carmine free' but that still doesn't answer the question. I've tried emailing twice and never got a response. Tati ignores or blocks those who ask. I did read someone got a response back from Halo just saying it was a 'proprietary blend' that makes up the 'pink', very vague and shady. I'd never buy from a company that couldn't disclose 100% ingredients of any product.

I’m sorry but HOLY SHIT, as a doctor, the knowledge that troponin assays could be falsely negative because of biotin is a HUGE risk. We generally diagnose heart attacks by three things; EKG findings, character of the chest pain, and elevated heart enzymes (troponin (most used) and CK). There are 2 types of heart attacks: STEMIs (that have ST elevation on an EKG), and NSTEMIs (that don’t have the elevation). The NSTEMI findings can be subtle, which is why we usually hold patients to repeat their troponin even if it was only a tiny bit elevated the first time, for more clinical security that aren’t having a heart attack. In addition, women (who are mostly likely going to be taking these kinds of supplements), don’t present with classic “chest heaviness, arm and neck pain” for heart attacks. It’s a lot more nebulous, so the trop can be very important. If the trop is unreliable in those women (that basically never tell us they are taking vitamins because why would they?) then that’s a real risk that they could be falsely diagnosed as not having a heart attack.

This popped up in my recommended after the James Charles drama. Yes James may have exhibited some narcissism and nasty traits, but he is 19. I feel some type of way with Jeffree Star, a man in his 30s with his own baggage, and Tati who is near 40 exposing him as if he is Satan himself.

To be fair, if he isn't called out, he can't improve, and Tati at least said she tried to talk to him privately about it on multiple occasions. Sometimes you need a shock to your system to realize you need to start acting right.

She said she loved him like a son, mothers don't drag their sons online and destroy their careers. If she cared for him she would take him to a therapist or something. Plus Jeffree star had his scandals, he made inappropriate comments about straight guys and Justin Bieber when Justin was only 16yo (Jeffree was 24yo at that time ) now he's taking Tati's side.

It's speculated that the product isn't cruelty free like it claims either. Ceramide PCD or what Tati is selling as Ceramide Rx was tested on animals by her supplier (Tru Body Wellness).
@morganelle1707
@morganelle1707 6 лет назад
Ayda Moftah unfortunately most ingredients have at some point been tested on animals, it is generally required for them to be classed as 'safe'. Supplier companies will either generally test all their ingredients, or piggyback off the findings of another company that will most likely have tested on animals. Unfortunately the 'cruelty free' title can be a but vague. Some companies will have tested none of their ingredients/products on animals, whilst others just let others do the tests for them.

Our stomachs are very good at a specific task - breaking stuff down. So, even when a molecule has been found to do something, there's good reason to question if it will survive digestion. One material our digestion breaks apart pretty efficiently is protein, including enzymes like catalase. Eating catalase and expecting it to survive digestion and somehow find its way from your gut to your scalp is a bit simplistic and needs some research to support the claim. I'm not saying it doesn't, I don't know, but I'm not going to assume it will just because. Vitamins are useful - but if you're consuming enough, you should already be fine. So, supplements claiming all kinds of benefits that rely entirely or largely on vitamins cannot truthfully promise everyone will benefit or that they're some very special formula, they're just vitamins. Good for people who don't eat enough, needless for those who do.

Really, the most effective things we can do to improve our hair/skin/nails are the things we always hear, eat healthy, drink water, sun protection, etc. - those are the main things we can do. An oral supplement only helps if it contains something your body is lacking, but you can get most of those nutrients from just eating good food too.

Hi. I wanted to add something about biotin. The presence of high doses of biotin (more than 5mg/day) can interfere with thyroid measurements. TSH can be measured as falsely low and t4, ft4 and t3 can present as falsely high. So, biotin supplements can mask hypothyroidism and if you are about to get your thyroid levels checked, you need to stop taking the supplement at least 8 hours prior blood sample collection

She did not say anything to me and I did not get a good impression of her at all. That was when she had the whole "your life isn't together if you don't do your nails" drama going on. When I heard Tati was working with a team of scientists, I got happy. Then, when seeing the ingredients, I got a bit sceptical, especially when there were either no studies actually saying that some of the ingredients worked. Like other people here, I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, and it kind feels like she got scammed... I don't know whether she is one of those people that just isn't capable of doing good research online by herself, or that she trusted people with a degree to be knowledgeable, or whether something about the way the whole team worked together is not working, or that the scientists she used are "specialists in natural supplements"... something about the "science" part is very off...

@lollsazz
@lollsazz 6 лет назад
Of course it has to - she has to make money in one way or another. It's totally normal that a job you do is supposed to bring in money. I'm just wondering how the science/research part of making the formula actually came to be. Tati doesn't want to tell what scientists she worked with. I can understand that those people might not want to become "famous", but at the same time, it makes it even harder to trust the research has been conducted well. However, who knows - Tati has been looking for fame since childhood (acting roles, reality TV), so who knows - she might be a fake person and just hiding it well. There have been discrepancies in her stories before, like: she said she was poor when she was younger, but also that she' been going to salons in Beverly Hills since she was 18 - what actually poor person can afford that?
@lollsazz
@lollsazz 6 лет назад
I don't think you understand what "private label" means: it means that the EXACTLY same product is sold by someone else, which is not the case here. Private labelling means slapping one's own name on an already finished, existing product. However, there's other shady things going on, like: the ingredient that is being touted as "super expensive" is made by... her husband, James. Basically: HE chooses the price. HOWEVER, the EXACT same ingredient, which is called Ceramide-PCD can be purchased alone, in non-fancy capsules, and it's pretty cheap: the cheapest is about $4.5, yes for the amount that Tati has in ONE of her boxes. The ceramide can also be found plenty of other places, like iherb - it's not unique to Tati's supplements. The other ingredients Tati has in the capsules are much cheaper though, and probably adds to something like $10-12 of ingredients. This does not mean Tati is making $30 a box - she might have made plenty of decisions that cost her a lot, however, I don't see anything special about her vitamins

My guess is the results in the small studies weren't blowing anyone away enough to fund further research.

The fact that this sort of video doesn’t take off in the way the “bye sister” one did just shows the ugly face of the beauty community. I’m not bothered with taking sides, just bothers me that someone can sell supplements with no evidence and no backlash like the whole James Charles drama...What is going on on YT....

I can't stand Tati anymore, she always seems like she is talking down to her audience. No thanks.

The Doctors just posted on their RU-vid channel specifically how excess biotin in hair and nails supplements can lead to skewed test results, which is also something you talked about in your video. I'm happy there are easy accessable videos like this, because while I don't think I would have purchased this product, I definitely would have reached for the biotin in my local pharmacy. Thank you for educating people with not only the research found, but also encouraging to others research when finding a new product, no matter how pretty the words and packaging are. Videos like this are very helpful, and I find comfort knowing I just need to continue my daily multivitamin and practice healthy habits (well planned diet, getting sleep, moderate exercise, etc).

I think your video was very informative and well thought out. The way in which Tati handled people's concerns with this supplement was very condescending. The whole fiasco has not been handled professionally, so I would never buy these supplements. Also, the way she is highlighting people's "results" from just a few days of taking the supplement make it look like a bad tv commercial - you know the ones that run at 3 am. I'm sure she'll still get rich from this endeavor and that is probably all she cares about, tbh.

I absolutely love your videos Swayze. Third year Ph.D. candidate here. I also want to emphasize, as Swayze did, that when we test specific products (e.g., rose hip powder), it is tested as an isolated product rather than as a compound with other products. So the claim from Phetcharat et al 2015, while it supports rose hip powder usage it cannot be extrapolated to a compound that contains other materials. Also, studies with such small sample sizes don't have enough power to make a strong conclusion, you would really need a meta-analysis with low risk of bias studies and large sample size to make any supportive claims.

Instead of taking pumpkin seed in pill form, why not just eat some roasted pumpkin seeds?

You seem to be an honest person. And your points were unbiased. It's hard to get unbiased reviews these days. Thanks :)

This video is very well made. As a biochemist, I am very skeptical about a lot of beauty and health claims, especially if they can easily be debunked in 5 min on Google. I think the way you approached these supplements is unbiased and neutral, taking each ingredient step by step. I like how you edited this video as well, no overediting, innuendos, memes, or shouting. All in all, keep up the good work! Subscribing!
