Love your channel but if you get tired of the research check out hidden experia he's got 99.99% of their lore covered so you can more quickly break down the anatomy and the rest of the Halo species is covered pretty darn well lore wise from Halo follower hope this helps quicken your sourcing for halo
I was hanging out with a girl who had never heard of Halo. She wanted to try it out and she was enjoying it. Thought the grunts were hilarious and was intimidated by the elites. When we got to the first flood level, however, she was so freaked out because she wasn't expecting zombie aliens to suddenly be part of the game. It was funny after all these years to see someone shocked at the reveal of the flood.
Nobody could have seen the flood coming! It was amazing to hit that part, back in 2002 me and my friend hit the flood level at like 2 am, needless to say we stayed up till 6 am just running through, no game has had that ability for me since

This is a great video, but it left me with a question. You say at around 6:30 that the process of the Flood modifying your arms into whatever they become is incredibly painful. The Flood infector/infection form hijacks your nervous system and the signals from your brain are blocked out. Since pain comes from free nerve endings sending signals to your brain to tell it to stop whatever it's doing to avoid potential damage/harm, would the victim's brain still be able to receive those neural inputs and process the pain?
Great question! It does seem if you are still alive that signals are allowed to pass to your brain but your brain can't send signals, it's pretty strange to say the least. Most times you are super dead by that point however. Private Jenkins was alive for it but it was a rare occurrence. Thanks for the compliment on the vid!
I Know this is an old comment but I was debating with a friend on if Spartans can get infected and he said John almost did when an infection form reached for his spine. I was under the impression that the infection form was doing that to just kill John. So does the flood need the spine intact to infect or not? He also argued if that wasn't the case then Bungie just did it for the shock factor and not to be accurate. Sorry for the post.
@@justinedwards5300 the spine does not need to be intact, it just needs a functional nervous system. The reason why its hard for the flood to infect spartans is due to there augmentations. It changes around their nervous system to the point where the flood would go after other creatures rather than spartans unless spartans are the only thing left they can infect because its so hard to infect them
I feel like the brethren moons were egotistical so eventually they would try to emerge dominant, though to be honest, I feel like they would beat the flood
I miss the good old days in the lore when the flood was just some parasite the forerunners ran into while exploring some planet in our galaxy and due to a lack of knowledge weren't able to contain it and thus the galaxy was almost infected because a plague simply wasn't contained.
Roanoke Gaming yeah and back then they didn't have the ancient humanity thing either and supposedly the reason the flood even found it's way to the planet they encountered the forerunners was just because a space cloud carried them to it.
3:20 Having a foreign signal override your own would actually be quite painful to the person. There are lots you can buy that will allow one person to put a master diode on their arm and a slave diode to another person if the person with were to let's say curl their fingers, the diodes through the machine would send a signal to the other person, forcing their fingers to curl, and it is stated to be notably, but not unbearably painful.

You could kill all the flood and maintain your sanity, the marker infects you by proximity, I would say the marker is waaaayyy worse but both would be equally terrifying!

Paradoxical Nightmare you do realize that the marker infects you no matter what right? And it’s extremely unnoticeable you’ll go crazy without knowing what’s causing it I think that’s more terrifying even tho the flood infection and the necromorph infection are equally horrific

Ikr? it was so fun destroying the flood with friends because it changes the horror aspect into just fun! One time there was this human combat form with both his arms dismembered, making him harmless but still mobile; we ended up naming him jerry lmao it was great

Yeah its PC only, and its not made by Microsoft so its not ever gonna go to xbox, its alright though cuz xbox has Halo 3 anyway, but yeah you should get a PC and try it out
the covenant didnt release the flood or break containment. once they stumbled upon the foreruners facility, the alerted covenant high command and they set up contaiment around the facility. it was the master chief who unleashed the flood when he and cortana assulated the cartogpher. remeber when he opended the secruity door containing a map?? welp it was not only that but that switch the master chief opened also served another purpose and that purposed was the containment fields that kept the flood infection forms locked away. and once that was opened all hell broke loose
In the book Halo The Flood there are chapters about a marine which is one that had been infected and the whole time he is alive and sees everything that is going on but is not able to do well anything because the pod has taken over his whole body via attaching to his nerves through the mass of nerves that connect from the back of his head and in his spine. He is still very much alive, but has no control at all and has a constant mind searing headache along with an insufferable ring that changes depending on what he tries to do, but what it does is scramble his mind and makes it hard for him to think which makes it much easier for the pod to control his body. This is simply just a basic oversight of some of the chapters from the book you would have to read it yourself and I encourage you to do so and if you find anything in here to be wrong please inform me of my mistakes that might have been made.

I think this flood like idea and what it does to the body is so cool I have sorta created a eldritch God that acts the same way for my book. I guess something about a super smart hive mind is just so interesting and fun....unless you met them.
Hey Roanoke it would be cool if you did another mass effect video. You should do a video on the Quarians. I’m curious as to why a species would evolve in a way to have an extremely weak immune system and become space faring. Think about that. I know their suits provide most of the protection they need, but I’m curious as to what environmental effects caused them to evolve this way.
oTTer it isn't, all covenant vessels over 04 were all destroyed. After the flood outbreak the remaining marine forces regrouped and attacked truth and reconciliation. They managed to overwhelm the remaining covenant forces and resume repairs. However they weren't aware that the flood had managed to infiltrate and hide out in the lower storage area. Private Jenkins 'sensed' them and managed to warn the acting CO who decided to investigate. Once she and her forces killed them Jenkins broke out and managed to get to the reactor. If memory serves the acting CO found him and decided it was time to kill. Before he died he warned her that more flood would come and if they returned to earth that would be it. Agaisn't her better judgement she detonated the cruisers core effectively destroying it and all surviving unsc forces save for Johnson, Chief, and Cortana.
What i don't understand is, if the flood are so advanced that they can retain knowledge of the hosts they infect. Why not just take full control of all the Forerunner tech laying around, I mean ideal opportunity right there. If memory serves they did something like that with a Forerunner war AI, I forget the name, and doing so was instrumental in decimating what was left of the Forerunner military.
Contender Class Ancillas, and yes the Flood do take control of Forerunner installations. It's just that in all the ones we see in the games aren't weapons of the Warrior Servants (with the exception of Requiem)
Now that I think of it I kinda wish that the Flood Juggernaut was still in the Halo games to learn about them (I'm not talking about the Abomination in Halo Wars though).

The Ship Master actually only glassed the city and some surrounding area. What's-his-face hyperbolized the glassing, and the Ship Master's comment on "I would've glassed your entire planet" was simply the Ship master exaggerating himself as well as trying to get the message through that the Flood are extremely dangerous.

The forerunners genocided Ancient humanity, then re-made Humanity but not before modifying their genome to remove millions of years of evolution, then later they genocided humanity again because they lost the war against the flood, firing the Halo array and killed what was likely thousands of different yet-unknown species, (as for example in the Forerunners trilogy, 'Sparks' noted a signal from a yet-unknown civilisation reaching the Forerunners/sparks, taking place just before/after/unknown the firing of the Halo Array).

If it infected the earth it would be immediately screwed. Even if we isolated an entire continent and able to defend say the small area between north and south Am, it would still infect any fish and then travel via water lol we are so screwed we cant isolate it at all
Depends on which stage each respective parasite is in. If a gravemind invades a newly started Necromorph infestation the flood will win. If a brethren moon invades a ferrel flood outbreak Necromorphs will win. If a keymind and a brethren moon both exist in the same galaxy then have mercy on our souls
