I don't give a shit about progression in a game like this, but they seriously need to add a lot more maps

It's obvious what they were thinking. The game cost $100 million to develop and they gave it to you basically for free. They have to make that money back somehow. So they're going to severely limit unlockables, force you to use the in- game store and jack up the prices on everything. They've basically taken the mobile game blueprint and used it on a triple A game. Expect the same from the next Gears of War game and every other first party multiplayer game coming on GamePass. 343 and Microsoft will probably actually make more on Infinite because of how much some people will spend in the in-game store than they did by selling almost 10 million copies of Halo 5.

Exactly bro, I never understand why a company like Xbox doesn’t even try to sell some games at a loss or small profit in exchange for good publicity/growing the Xbox fanbase. Seems most of these companies play the short instead of long game when it comes to game development.

it's not that paying extra for cosmetics is really a problem by itself, it's that there's not way to earn something comparable just by playing. you should be able to get decent stuff from the game and only maybe pay for a bit of more extravagant items to help support the game. servers and future content cost money to produce too. People often forget that inflation is a thing that has not been directly applied to video games for like 15 years now, and although I know these 'live service' BS stores are not the answer to that no one wants a game to go up to 70-80+ dollars at launch to cover the difference. we've had about a 60$ price tag on new "AAA" games for over a decade where literally anything else in retail would've gone up but 15-20% by now at least. Is this a crappy way to do business?... maybe... but think of alternatives here... why people think that games can't possibly be getting more expensive to develop especially for bigger companies with more people working on it. they want all these talented people to just suck it up and make more and more game but not have to pay more for it. it's like free refills at a restaurant, if a place has that and for expense reasons has to suddenly take it away everyone would get PISSED off and a lot would stop going there cause they think they're missing value from the experience

Macro-transactions more like. I'd have no issue at all with 50 cent player skins, and they let us earn most in-game content again.

Even that customization system had its flaws, anyone with enough time in their hands could unlock anything and everything. A specific item didn't mean anything. Halo 3 was where they nailed it. To earn items, you had to complete specific tasks. If someone had the Katana, you knew they were legit. Now customization is an abomination because you can do whatever you want, sort of, but you have to pay for it. It's ridiculous.

Getting t-bagged by a dude with the flaming helmet "back in the day" was a sign that you were going to need to step up your game to get revenge. Now, it just means they spent $12 in the cosmetics store....

When you got crushed by someone wearing hard-to-get gear, you felt that you deserved it because you knew he was just plain better than you. For someone with exceptionally special stuff, it was kind of like "Woah! It's an honor to be killed by you!"

Sadly, it's the other way around. There was a bigger map with a more diverse set of environment's, much like the reveal trailer, and they massively scaled back in scope because they couldn't meet quality and content standards. And hell, no we know they barely pulled off the scaled back version.

I remember when Doom 2016 had a slider for both cleanliness and scratches for all the multiplayer armors, so you could go for that pristine look or something rougher. Too bad *modern game design* can't incorporate something like that.

I think that's the inherent problem with trying to constantly escalate the threat to the entire Halo universe. The Flood was built up through all the lore and extended media as this unrelenting, all-consuming force that was simply only _contained_ by the Halo array. Even the events of Halo 3 didn't entirely wipe them out, if you go by Halo Wars 2 n' such. So where does one go from there? So far, each mainline 343 game has presented different ideas as to what the next Big Bad *could* be. Halo 4 gave us the Didact, with a sort of "return" of the Forerunners in a sense, though it was a bit sloppy in-game, and they ultimately finished him off in comics between games. Halo 5 gave us the interesting twist of making Cortana the villain and forging her own army with "The Created" as a whole brand-new threat utilizing repurposed Forerunner tech, which on paper would've been neat to see expanded upon if, again, it wasn't executed sloppily and then "wrapped up" off-screen. And that brings us to....here. The Endless. Something that has essentially came _entirely_ out of left field and being a whole-ly *new* concept to the _ancient_ Halo universe. I'll admit, I myself am personally (cautiously) intrigued to see where this plotline goes, honestly. There were a couple instances in the latter part of the campaign where we hear clips from the Harbinger directly that had me like, ".....That was the _exact_ wording and cadence that the *_GRAVEMIND_* said that line in the past," among a couple other vibes I picked up where The Endless just _miiiiiiight_ be tied to the Flood somehow? Who knows, only time will tell. Ultimately though, I feel like we need a breather from these intergalactic threats. Tone it all down some notches, tell some smaller stories with smaller threats across the Halo universe (gimme another ODST or somethin' for gods' sakes), _then_ start building back up to another Big Bad that _doesn't_ entirely stem from the ancient universe. Or something, I 'unno. If Halo as a franchise is going to keep pushing into the future, it needs some mix-up with variety or such, or we're going to end up with an entire reboot at some point, and that might just completely kill the franchise.

Forge, co-op, customs, customisation, progression. We just needed Reach's systems with Infinite's gameplay etc and we're golden.

Yah, even if you needed to gain credits and rank to get it, it was a grind to show how much you played the game. It showed your hard work. Now…pay us for better cosmetic’s. Also, waiting outside for your pre-order and playing it once home. Good times.

Yh I think making the multiplayer free was a mistake because I doubt they would have a battle pass that you would have to spend money on to look different or pay for standalone cosmetics if they made the multiplayer and campaign one package and charged for that one game I think they would do the reach system

@@CoffeeSA96 I actually do still play it and I’m well over 1500+ hours but I wouldn’t recommend anyone else start playing this game I just enjoy playing in clans with my buddies and I sign up for the MLG tournaments. But trying to play this game by yourself is Awful and the devs still struggle to release any content even with a map maker and custom game browser halo still manages to have no content. In community groups called clans they make maps and raid each other trying to capture a base in a 12v12 which is supper fun but other than that and playing competitively this game is pretty dead and boring for casual players. You gotta dig hard to find things that are fun if you’re a new player

One of the main reasons I still play and mod Skyrim the community of passionate skilled modders that work tirelessly for free in most cases just so others can enjoy a game the way they were meant to be played.

The problem is that the gaming industry keeps those kinds of people out because they wouldn't make money for free. Modders are the people you need to have in the gaming industry, I promise you we'd get better games.

I don't know who programmed this game but no other has crashed on me as many times as Halo Infinite did. This game is not finished, at all. Wont be surprised when the articles telling us about what a mess Infinites developement was come out.

Its actually not. Forge was always added after launch, and there's at least 10 different PVP maps. The campaign is roughly the same size as Halo 1 and 2, and as big as 3 if you do the optional content. The PVP itself is *fun* to play. The two flubs are: no splitscreen co-op, and the multiplayer monetization/progression are awful. Both i expect to be fixed, but his 7/10 is a very fair rating. This can be a 9/10 in 6 months time thankfully.

@@elthionel Obviously im exaggerating for comedy sake however thats what it feels like coming from something like Halo 3. And this game needs a lot more than 6 months to be a full fledged Halo tittle and lets be honest forge will probably be delayed and that's all we have to look forward to in the meantime. Look at literally any information at all including what the devs have said themselves. They are in a state of emergency right now because they made a live service game with live service monetization and time sync but no live service content to give the players. I mean they barely even got a community update out and its been 12 days since the new year, meanwhile, anyone that has even spawned in a match has something to say about it needing change. Bottom line is they have not a clue what they are doing right now, however, I do believe in the long run it will come around but right now the game is not it. I just question how Microsoft fumble their biggest IP for over a decade maybe its just 343 and they need to be cut.

They didn't play dumb - they literally acknowledged it in their blog posts about the flight feedback, but said the same thing they are saying now: Comprehensive changes would take time. It's pretty obvious that the game was being worked on right up until release and came in super hot, so there probably wasn't any overheard to throw "scrap and rebuild your entire progression system" in there between September and November. The real question is why they thought such a system was a good idea to begin with, since the shortcomings of it were painfully obvious. But I wouldn't be shocked if that was a function of simply running out of time too. It's clear the game had serious development issues somewhere along the way, when you're still having to delay Forge and co-op after a six year dev cycle.

@@manz7860 let’s hope you’re wrong, but the mtx situation is anyone’s guess. They’ll probably allow us to buy things individually instead of bundles hopefully. They said they’d be reassessing all of this, and if they don’t hold their word to this they know the community is gonna crucify them more than they already have. In terms of more content, they’re drip feeding no doubt, hopefully by like June or July we’ll have a good amount of gametypes, co op, and some other stuff.

hell yes I loved reach too and I will never forget the first time I passed it, the ending left me in silence, it was so epic and sad because of that last 'survive" mission.

It just felt so repetitive, bosses were more frustrating than anything, most of the story is implied or cutscenes reference stuff that happen off screen, it still isn't that much better looking than that 2019 e3 trailer.

I think the emptiness of the world is somewhat overblown. If I ever saw an area and thought "I bet there is something cool there" there almost always was, even if it was just an abandoned marine camp. You can see things to do from virtually anywhere on the map. It's not like it's a barren landscape. To me, it felt just the right size, but I say that as someone who is completely burned out on open world games.

Not as empty as the Destiny world. At least there are things to find.

@@PerpetualSmile The few locations within the worldmap that have stuff are interesting, but the majority of the map is just open wilderness. Trees and rocks, maybe a river over here or some forerunner hexagonal columns over there. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty to look at, and there are some really cool locations sprinkled throughout, but if it weren't for Banished patrols to kill, and some fun forms of traversal, it would get boring really fast. Especially when the only reason to actually go to those interesting locations is to find some collectables. Try this experiment. Next time you get on to play some campaign, don't use the grapplehook or any vehicles and try to travel from one side of the map to the other. An open world should give you a reason to come back to it, to look around and explore, with interesting encounters and things to find. Outside of the bases all there really is to find are enemies to kill, and a bunch of collectables scattered around. Honestly, now that I think about it, it kind of feels like 343 tried to do something new with Halo, making the campaign open-world and the multiplayer free-to-play, without fully understanding what it takes to make great examples of either of those things. They didn't understand how to make a truly great open-world campaign, and they didn't understand how to make a truly great free-to-play multiplayer.

That's... not a good point. That's like saying, "If your car didn't have wheels, it actually wouldn't be very fast." Obviously traversal in Halo Infinite would be bland if you stripped it's core mechanic away. The game would also be short if you took all the levels out.

YES! YES YES YES YES YES! Forge world should be the freaking campaign map. That is such a sick idea! And, honestly? The grapple hook is literally, so satisfying. It's kind of funny. The people at 343 promised a return to form for halo multiplayer, which means no advanced movement, and then they stumbled on a form of advanced movement that's fun and exciting. Maybe multiplayer with all grapple hooks wouldn't be fun, but I kinda just wanna try it.

@dj Kplus What a terrible reply. As a consumer I'm allowed to voice my opinions of the products I buy. Sorry if the issues I had with the game hurt your feelings. But facts are facts and 343 is charging $60 for just the campaign, so it begs to reason that this better be the best Halo Campaign experience, which sadly it's not. There are missing features. The biggest two being mission select, and Co-op play. That already hurts the price tag right there. As cool as the open-world was, I feel overall it hurts the game more than benefits it. I felt the open-world started becoming more obvious padding than immersive. I loved that it reminded me of the level Halo from CE, but that level didn't overstay is welcome. Like if that level was 50% of CE like the Open-world is in Infinite, it wouldn't have been as memberable being the first time you stepped onto the Halo ring. Anyways, you're right, I can't program video games, but after playing them for almost 30 years I feel I have a pretty good scope on what's a good game, and what isn't worth the $60-$70 price tag. Infinite is a solid game, but deeply flawed. Campaign isn't worth the price tag compared to other single-player titles on the current market.

@dj Kplus Saying $60 for just the campaign is not misleading as that's the only thing, outside of the optional "Microtransactions" and the Battle Passes, you pay for. The Multiplayer is free-to-play, so yes the $60-$70 goes only towards the campaign. Now if the Multiplayer was not Free-to-play I would argue that the $60-$70 is a better bang for your buck. Yes, some people have Game Pass and they can play the game fully through the service, but not everyone has Game Pass. I for example don't. I already own a PS5 and a gaming PC, I'm not gonna go out of my way to buy a Series X or Subscribe to a service for the only game I'm interested in from Microsoft. I'm sure there are others out there that feel the same as me as well. I agree that I would also like to play a game that's 90% bug free on release, but I would also like to play a game that's also complete at release. If that means the developers have to put a little bit more time, I do not care. Especially during this ongoing Pandemic, I would much rather see a game finished to completion and then spend my money, rather than invest my money now and hope they add that feature in later. Basically if I'm gonna drop $60-$70 on a game, I would like all the promised features in that game. Like imagine buying a brand new table, open it up, and find a note from the company saying they'll ship the legs to all the buyers once they produce them? I personally don't like dropping money on incomplete items. If you're satisfied with your purchase then be satisfied. I can't stop you, and nothing I say can stop you. However, it seems Angry Joe and a group of people find it all a bit wanting. Obviously 343 has stated this game supposedly has a 10 year plan, so there's going to Campaign Expansions to well... expand upon the campaign and story, but as an entry level story and campaign that's meant to hook you in for future installments, it's pretty meh.

@dj Kplus It's pretty obvious with the way the Free-to-Play Multiplayer is built like... well... a Free-to-Play game, the funding from the Store and Battle Passes is meant to be the Multiplayer's main source of income. Once they get their whales, it'll start printing them money even if the majority of the player base buys next to nothing. Like-wise the Campaign is meant to pay for the hard dedicated work of the team as a whole and hopefully fund future campaigns in this 10 years of Infinite. As I said though, it's a bit of a stretch that the main campaign, the only part of the game you spend the money on, is worth that buy in price. I'm glad you enjoyed the game through Game Pass, but it's hard to compare your borderline free experience of the game when some others went ahead and bought the game. Perhaps if I played it through a service, I would share a similar opinion. But after spending the AAA entrance fee, and letting it digest over the past month it's iffy. The open world eventually got a little stale; I can't remember most of the levels like I can every stage from the original Trilogy; the story was a little hard to follow; there's really not a lot of spectacle outside of the open world, it would've been crazy hunting scarabs in such a big playing field; and the surprise third party villains had no purpose to the story, and they took the spotlight from The Banished, the more interesting villains. Please don't think I hate this game as I don't. I agreed with Joe's 7/10 rating, which is still a solid rating. It's just a shame that this game was so close to being that amazing game, but sadly it has its flaws that hold it back and that's ok.

Nah a 7/10 is being generous, this game deserves like a 5/10.

@Popstar Ahri maybe your problem is setting the bar way too low. Saying it's completed compared to FUCKIN BATTLEFIELD?! That's a pretty terrible standard and accepting it is the reason why these unfinished launches keep happening over and over

Agreed with Chris. The gameplay is spot on but compared to the earlier Halo games, Infinite is shockingly devoid of features that were pretty much the core of the series. Where is the region select? Server browser? Pre and post-game lobbies? Why did players even had to bring up the fact that the game lacked the very BASIC game mode selection (it was just quick play and BtB at launch) that was in the series for almost 20 years now? Hell, some issues that were complained about in the beta flights are STILL not fixed in the final version. I love this game, but how anyone can consider it to be anything other than a beta at this stage is beyond me.

What makes you think that? Gears 5 was even more sccummy then this when it comes to modern trends. Any microsoft exclusive is loaded with scummy microtransactions.

@@scarecrow4297 Ya alot of crappy games get above average scores that don't deserve it. Cod gets 8s and 9s every year and that game is crap. I think the core gameplay on these microsoft studios games is good but it's always ruined by them being half done and loaded with immersion breaking and greedy microtransactions. The people that support these practices don't care hence the higher scores. The review is spot on the story is dog shit but the gameplay is good while the multiplayer has that good gameplay the over all experience is hurt by lack of content and a horrid progression system ruined by monetization once again in a triple a game.

@@samuel10125 I don't want to play through a futuristic military shooter campaign where one of the dudes is a total coward throughout. If Echo grew a spine at some point it would've been fine, but literally all he does is complain and abandon his post. He is in the military after all, yet lacks any sense of duty.

@@livewia Yeah I remembered he wasn't a marine, but I would think that someone serving on the Infinity would be one of humanity's best, brightest, AND bravest. I did forget he manned up a little towards the end though, wish it would've happened earlier still.

@@WZPlayer10 sorry, the unlock details in the armor hall are misleading. Even still, grinded the challenges for a visor to a helmet I cannot unlock until somewhere around February when the event comes back. Just a terrible cosmetic and progression system.

Honestly, I'm no fan of Halo. I've only watched this because I thought "huh, maybe they learned their lesson from requisitions from Guardians", but no. It's a good thing they nailed the gameplay.

Most game devs do admit to watching his reviews, AJ has also been in the news, e3 and the recent xbox doc. the gaming companies want to ignore him but cant because he has a BIG following in the gaming community.

What are you talking about? In a video itself 343 guy said - "we knew that nobody from Halo fans would like the idea of F2P, but we still did it". Obviously they know what they are doing. Studios/publishers like this have a dedicated R&D divisions, which spend a lot of effort to calculate the steps for max profit. Look at how things progressing after Bungie left: 1. they release H4 as "their version of Halo" - nobody likes it 2. they create MCC to kill of Bungie heritage and to have a platform for testing this "curated playlist" crap - does not work initially and nobody likes it 3. after MCC experiment - they get the idea on how to develop platform and decide to chace COD trend in H5 in both gameplay and monetization as a next step - nobody likes it 4. they combine all this knowledge and then create Infinite platform - most people do not yet know that they won't like it 5. they kill of all Bungie games (MP-wise) and remove them from a store, so they would be completely in control of all Halo titles and could continue screw up MCC So yes, they do know what they are doing... Like Joe said - they gonna adjust "that" dial and say - "we are listening!'
