To be fair that has to be pretty inspiring in a way. The fact that they all went through that together yet they made it out while a Spartan didn't. That speaks loads to what Halo is all about especially ODST. I think ODST proved that some soldiers have the heart and the skill, theyrejust not genetical experiments who can soak up bullets.
@@305backup well I mean it is and its not seeing how those guys wouldn't have returned had the Spartan not been there with O'Brian and the squad dying on the first encounter with the brute and even in the second encounter it was the spartan who took the gravity hammer giving them the chance to knockdown the brute and kill it or they were mince meat
@@305backup Yes and No, Spartans were the pinnacle of Military prowess. The literal perfect soldier, so how would you feel if the "perfect soldier" never makes it back. What does that mean for you, an ordinary footsoldier? Then again. it just further emphasizes the resilience of mankind. The foot soldiers were always important, you usually sent in the Spartans when sh*t was serious. Much like the Seals or Green Beret
A group of ODST reluctantly get stuck on a Halo ring with a Spartan and the only hope out is to lean into helping each other, fantastic story waiting to happen. 7-9 episodes would be just enough
@@BonzerMrT That sort of did happen in the book, Halo The Flood. Master Chief and the leader of the ODSTs had issues that were mainly on the ODST's part. The guy believed that the Spartans were failures and freaks, which he said right to Chief's face.
@@JongleurBt1 Agreed that series = death, and I’m so thankful someone else watched it for me and said on the internet it sucks so I never need to see that disgusting crap.
the attention to detail is incredible. you see how Spartans are able to operate alone even on sniper missions where they'd usually need a spotter, because she plugs in the scope to her neural interface. the sound of the sniper zooming in is the exact same one from the games. these are some of the best 'animated extras' for something I've ever seen, except maybe The Animatrix
The attention to detail here is so much better than the new Halo series. Even the gun shot was the same as the game yet the show can't bother using the same SFX for the guns and shields etc.
@@cipher136 i think it was a little off, with the main fact being that the spartan didn't confirm the kills and then other that she wasn't able to hear the brute even though it was breathing that loud cause apparently in the books Spartans can pick on these sounds very very precisely. But other than that it was truly remarkable how good this was
That “attention to detail” fooled me. This whole time I thought it was a dude Spartan and until they took her helmet off and I was like “wtf.” She got a body built like a Greek God, like Kratos. Of course they gave her hair unsecured and long like every typical anime girl character. How she managed to operate that helmet with hair not tied up inside is beyond me. It’s not even short or secured, not complaint to the UNSC military hair regulations like irl. Lmao that attention to details isn’t perfect. Kat from Halo Reach is perfect example of what a female Spartan should be. Now imma stop my rant it’s just an anime, and the animation and voice acting is pretty good. I give it a 7/10.
Gush. The realization in O'brian. The Spartan who saved him thrice, the one who carried him in his arms, the prettiest girl she seen, a Spartan, and she died with a smile right before him. Just wow.
This and Daisy’s story are the best ones in my opinion, it showcases no matter how much Spartan 2 changed them the 2s are still human and there are those who know it
Wait you mean there's a better way to show that Spartans are human other than having them take off their helmet every other scene, show off their butts, and dye their hair pink? :O
@@splentforcer1475 never ever even if they had a assault rifle and only shot 3 round bursts out of a 60 round mag I'd still try to always save them when playing lmaoooo
Anyone else think Spartans just give off big mom/dad vibes? Like they just pick a random person or group of people and be like “I shall cherish and protect these smaller humans with all I have” and then do shit like this
There are two types of Spartans: the ones who reset to the last checkpoint until they clear the level without a single casualty, and the ones who rob recruits of their power weapons in exchange for sidearm peashooters.
Spartan IIs, definitely. Spartan IIIs less so, as they tended to range from functionally professional to very damaged, as one might expect from war orphans given life-altering surgeries and drugs then sent on literal suicide missions. Spartan IVs are literally just marines but bigger.
Sad fact, the first spartan casualty in the Human-Covenant war was 14 years old when he died. All spartan IIs and IIIs are child soldiers that never knew anything other than the ONI laboratories and the field of battle.
@@MotivatedVergil111 Probably one of the few good things about Halo Infinite is that they acknowledge Chief's best friend. Chief uses Samuel's serial number at one point.
Also O'Brien lost both his weapons at the cliff side so they only had 6 weapons between them one of which had to stay on target for the shot on the prophet
@@RandomInternetUser-yi5cc The brute wasn't the only other surviving Covenant solider and even if no one's left, you automatically assume that they are so you WON'T get ambushed.
I wish so too they are so well done that a full length Halo film should be a thing, There was one attempt by Peter Jackson but unfortunately the project was scrapped for unknown reasons.
As much as i would love for this to come back modern writers would probably screw the spartan up considering the fact that they would make her a feminist
“Men just can’t handle a female protagonist that is stronger then everyone else” This is a prime example on why that’s false and it’s purely just the way the characters are wrote
@@peachpie3597 not only that, i think. Cal literally save orion from dying, twice. First was at the waterfall scene and second when she took a heavy gravity slam from a brute
@Gravestone999 Male or female has nothing to do with it. It's either a well written charcter or it is not a well written charcter. That is what would make the charcter acceptable or not
How a single 18 minute episode can do more for a series, and humanize spartans without making them have weird E-Sex/remove their emotion 'inhibitor' is really funny. This explained more lore about halo than the entire new halo series paramount put out.
And this is the reason why spartans usually go in missions alone or with other spartans (at least the Spartan II's), marines and even ODSTs in this case become obstacles instead of support
I think the only reason this Mission was executed as such is because O'Brien is the best shot available at this point and given time, and for this specific Mission, Time has Priority/Target availability.
@Haruno Caleon They do actually have a better ai than normal marines and have a few buffs in their stats, especially things like dexterity. There are spartan teammates, but its the best teammate you'll get that can die, maybe aside Spartan-I Sgt. Johnson
@@johncongdon7398 8 months late... Actually, I find that Marines paired with me (when I play Halo games) live longer or do better than ODSTs. Yeah, A.I. this and that, but still. I have no idea why I saw ONE marine murder 2 hunters, 7 elites and a slew of Grunts. By herself. A few other times I've seen 1 or 2 go toe-to-toe against a squad of high-ranking Elites and Jackels without my interference. ODSTs? they charge in and die. I try to help them and kill off nearly everything and they still die. To Grunts.
there no need to say thank you because she never needed it but O’brian and others understood what happened and respected her even after she passed on....
14:09 This part really articulates how close the ODST’s and spartan had grown. These three ODST quite literally threw all their weight to take down this chieftain who was carrying a gravity hammer. Most of the lore states how dangerous it was to come near one let alone TACKLE a user. These ODSTs were willing to give their own lives to protect the spartan
What I find funny is this is more or less the exact tactic the ODSTs use in the game when Romeo gets injured. I like to imagine some ODST squad tried it first, was shocked it worked, and a manual was made UNSC official guide for ODST squads to neutralise chieftains. Step 1: hook the legs, preferably one ODST per Step 2: wrap the waist, multiple ODSTs advised Step 3: pull the legs, shove the waist until enemy finds themselves on their back Step 4: dog pile one top to reduce their mobility Step 5: unload whatever ammo you have left into their face Step 6: check your squad to ensure no one died during the process Step 7: reload your primary firearm and repeat step 5
This is wild when I rewatch this. For over a decade we thought these ruins that predated the Covenant were Forerunner in origin. Knowing what we know now, these ruins were definitely Ancient Human.
With how successful Star Wars Visions is, it makes me wish that we got another season of Halo Legends but instead of the Covenant war era, it should be during the Banished war era
I wanna know more about ancient humans and forerunners, tbh. I wanna know about the culture that made those buildings, how they measured distance, what star patterns they held as sacred, all the Graham Hancock things.
I love how despite a brief union the Spartan Cal-141 set a new everlasting example of who they really are to their rivals. A totally unforced, likely unbeknownst, shattering of prejudices, ill-will, doubts, and slander. She carried the mission forward while saving a fellow soldier's life thrice throughout enemy territory with no hope of re-enforcements. Yet, although her self-sacrifice was militarily vetted, the meaning of her death seems as though it is still being processed by O'Brien. His demeanor post-mission suggests he has a changed mindset over what he is actually capable of and what it truly takes to be an elite soldier in an intergalactice conflict: focus to no end and not just with aim. On a personal level her self-sacrifice is only as worth while as O'Brien and fellow squadmates are changed and truly understand that privilege and ego has no place in Spartan life. The only hint that O'Brien finally understands just how dire and unanswerable the situation is for average, non-augmented humans and that his prejudice of Spartans was completely unfounded is his ambivalence over the foolishness of the interjecting Private and went on mentally reflecting over his own physical reflection. Spartans are not just Super-Soldiers they have the coded character moralisms of idealized chivalrous Knights or Honourable Samurai, in the flesh. The real deal. Possibly from their warped childhoods, of course, but nonetheless totally admirable on their end. This episode is also beautifully illustrated and animated, the Covenant troops were not merely deranged monsters, I even felt slight remorse for the alarmed grunt killed after the tree branch was trampled. The way the Elites reacted from the assasination was golden too. I can go on and on
The point of Halo is = Hopelessness. Every mission is do or die, delaying the covenant and giving humanity time. Halo TV show and story of 343 made, is all about melodrama. Has no direction and everybody chilling out too much. Also Spartans shouldn’t be the main character, they should always be supporting unless the cast is all Spartans, then it’s a better story if it’s the least effective Spartan.
Judging on the thwack from the gravity hammer they were lucky her head was in one piece but honestly based on how little blood and the no obvious signs of deformity wound might've been survivable except head wounds are often hard to tell and the damage could've caused swelling of the brain or something
i mean generally spartans can take a lot more damage and not show it , feel it, or notice it and half the time its a lot worse then it seems ie kelly whose organs were basically being kept in by her armor... also their skeletons are a lot more durable than a normal human never mind the armor however regardless it was most like the concussive force that past tensed her
Spartans are incredibly durable, allowing them to continue pushing even when death has already claimed them. One Spartan fought a battle despite his organs being melted by all of the plasma. He only died once the fight was over
I'm pretty sure the reason they didn't show the escape from the planet is because it would have included the ODSTs dragging her lifeless corpse to extraction because people (or atleast Spartans) can be revived if the body and brain is intact.
She likely couldve lived if she received instant medical attention, but attempting to transport a injured spartan-II in armor is a futile endeavor. Simply impossible. No equipment & no land based vehicles (a warthog would’ve been perfect, no doubt in my mind they have the combined physical strength to lift her inside one).
@@JakeTheComicBookDude That’s the Mjolnir Mark V a lot of Spartans used it, Jerome 092, Jorge 052, Kurt 051 It was supposed to be a “Simple Mission” but they needed an advanced and sharp eye of a Spartan for the mission, that’s where Cal 141 fit on the mission, eventhough it wasn’t a fight Spartan due to being a woman, she still had to do the labor of using super force and high reflexes due to O’Brien Mistakes
@@JakeTheComicBookDude I´m so sorry, thats not the Mark V is the Mark IV, That armor wasnt as durable as the MK V and also it didnt have any shield besides the armor itself
9:16 what’s funny about this scene is that in actual halo lore and the games, grunts are almost as tall as the average human and can rip the arm off one with relative ease, which just proves how huge of a man Dutch is. Even In game he can punch grunts in half too😂
Going back to an amazing series like this, more specifically this episode, reminds us of why we love Halo. The new stuff that keeps coming out strays way too far from the source
I mean it makes sense. Think about, what if Navy SEALS and CAG suddenly got side stepped by a new type of Super Soldier, twice as strong, fast, better gear, higher reflexes and no matter how hard they train, they would still fall short to them. Also O'Brian would still have missed, flight time for 2 miles, wind, correolis effect, drop and elevation.
I'm pretty sure real life snipers in the military are taught to compensate for wind, corriolis effect, drop and elevation also I'm pretty sure in real life there have been multiplie confirmed kills over distances which were further than 2 miles and that's without 2500 future tech sniper rifles
The Sniper Rifle uses hitscan. There is no projectile, the game just instantly damages whatever you were aiming the gun at when you pulled the trigger.
this would have not only been a lot more believable, but also more lore accurate, if that Spartan DIDN'T have non-regulation hair length in the military, where she's required to wear a pressure sealed helmet for the hair to get caught in. The skin tone makes sense, though, being that Spartans would be extremely limited to exposure to the sun (what with being in their suits for extended periods of time). Also, odd that the Ancient Human ruins would resemble Asian architecture, with what almost looks like a Buddhist religious depiction?
@@idkwhatmynameis53 I don't know.. that much hair is going to make a bun at least the size of your fist, so trying to make that fit under the helmet would be Very tricky

Why was no one covering their backs? The Spartan was doing her job and the rest of em just decided to stand and spectate rather than cover the exit? 🤦♂️
I remember watching this on Spike because they had some special going on before the release of Halo 3: ODST and I thought the whole Halo Legends movie was going to be like this but I was disappointed because I didn't expect it to be an anthology. i hated this he basically got in the way of the spartan like 5 times and never said thank you even when she died saving his life. i didn't hate the episode i just didn't like o brian he was so winy and unreliable in the field
Unreliable? I'd say he just has tremendously bad luck. Botched landing, being the only one to encounter a brute and later the brute just happened to target him because he was the closest.
You didn't need a scene of him saying 'thank you'. Everything was in the look on his face when the Spartan died in front of him. You know that that moment changed him.
@@braedench I mean, he was doing a REALLY shitty job at the end there. He should have either been spotting or if he's being useless covering the six. Dude was basically taking a coffee break during the single most vital 5 minutes of the operation.
there is a lore conflict the silenced smg used to kill the brute chieftain ejecting spent cases when according to the official lore said smg uses caseless ammunition
9:16 and then some people say that grunts are stronger than humans but here grunts were beaten up by humans and had their necks broken so normal non Spartan humans are stronger than grunts
Trained professionals, the Grunts come straight out of kindergarden to the straight to the battle field. Check out my Halo and Marathon content! More coming!
What's depressing about Cal dying is the ODSTs probably had to follow Cole Protocol and scuttle her neural implant. Obviously it's not implied but a disturbing thought nonetheless.
The first time I find out that there is also a cool female spartan in Halo and in few seconds it broke my heart.. damn.. why them doing these kind of things😭😑💔
There are plenty of female spartans. Halo: Reach features Kat-B320 and B312/Noble 6 are female if the player chooses. I know 4 and 5 also feature female spartans but I haven’t played them so I don’t know their names.
As these guys said, there's also Spartan II's : Naomi (Kilo-Five novel trilogy) Nicole (Dead or Alive 4 unlockable character (Confirmed canon) and Spartan IIIs : Lucy (Ghosts of onyx, Kilo-Five and Last Light) Olivia (Ghosts of onyx, Glasslands, Last Light Novel series)
Kelly and Linda from Blue team, in the old books at least, were and still are awesome, if you can find Halo: Fall of Reach, and First Strike as a book or audio book, go for it, old is gold in this case
i know its cool but isn’t her hair an annoyance for her to operate in this type of situation? realistically men and women had to cut their hair like Kat, Linda for example in halo reach and Forward unto dawn
I just assumed she had it tied back or something and either when she got hit or when they took off the damaged helmet it came undone. I’m pretty sure there are a fair number of militaries that actually allow long hair as long as it’s tied back in a regulation manner.
ODST watch a spartan die, one even gets a crush on the spartan for being a girl. Your usual UNSC grunts be like: Hahaha, guess spartans aint so tough as they are said to be, LOL. Wouldn't be surprised if next halo is a civil war between ODST and UNSC xD
