I made this video to demonstrate the differences between the three head lamp types halogen, xenon and LED. These differences were much clearer in real life, that´s because of my cameras. I´m sorry about that. I will make a better video in the future, with better cameras and better ideas =)
Till then I hope you enjoy this amateur stuff here =)

He put a hell of a lot of work into making this, FairPlay to him. For me the xenon’s are superior as in further and wider, and more clarity, the LEDs are slightly brighter, but the xenon’s are more high definition

Best video demonstrating the differences I watched quite a few and none of them were so straightforward interestingly the LED never had as much coverage I thought I am installing xenon in my car right now but I'm glad I checked this video out first it confirmed that I'm making the right move

When in comes to halogen, the design of the reflector matters a lot. I could always see a huge difference between my c classes, s203 vs w204. Hoping that when I get one with xenon's/ILS I get better low beams, as the high beams are already bright enough!

That’s why I gone from Halogen to HID! While I got LED in main beam so it light up instantly while HID takes a while to get up to its brightness!😊 although you do need projectors for HIDs because if you retrofit the HID kit to reflector, what will happen is the HID bulbs disburse all around the reflective surface of the reflector housing and what that does it just send the light everywhere and you’ll be blinding every single oncoming traffic at the opposite direction and the police will pull you over and they won’t like it at all!

Probably the best video I've ever seen regarding the light bulb illumination source type. Most cars, especially old ones, got the halogen lamp installed which is not bad. It can be easily improved with some LED's (I'm referring to cars headlights that have no embedded LED's). This upgrade is cheap, easy to install and low consumption. There is a noticeable difference between the halogen and the rest. (and not only the colour temperature) I also noticed that there is a slightly difference between the xenon and the LED's. Defo! the xenon looks much brighter on a country road but they come with a price. I'm gonna wait for the next LED generation. What a nice video and thanks for spending the time creating it!

Not much difference between Xenon LED in terms of illumination level. As far as I know that has to do that Xenon already puts out as much light as its allowed on european roads.
@Brian-jv8iy

No LED low beams sold in Europe or anywhere for that matter have an output that’s even close to xenons, especially BMWs. Most LEDs are like the “low energy” xenons which were offered a few years ago.

Xenon and LED are the best. For rainy and winter conditions you want to use warmer light around 4000k (kelvin). If you use bulb that is over 6000k so its pretty much white, you will have worse light in winter or rainy conditions because whiter light reflects back to you from rain.

God Bless German thoroughness! You provided a very nuanced comparison for real world night driving aspects. Mercedes mechanically steered Xenon's were able to extend the usefulness of the beam that other brands will not. The newer switchable did LED's still couldn't match the 50' post detail of the old physically steered and leveled xenon's. LEDs just created a harsh hot spot in front of the car but were unable to spread and project beams like Mercedes steered Xenon's. Sadly realtime on-demand physically steered Xenon projectors are gone in favor of stationery switchable diode LED's. These results are going to upset a lot of people. Xenon performance is being maximized by virtuoso Mercedes engineering in a way rudimentary brands can't replicate with their "dumb passive" projectors. Imagine the Mercedes results with an all Xenon strategy.

Glad to see Mercedes funs here but.....it is not true. It is not just Mercedes designing great lights. There is quite a few including Audi, Volvo, Subaru as some examples . You may want to see the tests. And yes it can be done with LED technology. And remember: what you see on your screen is quite far away from reality (the white spot on many screens is just low dynamic range of such devises). Cheers

@@myslecinaczej8674Driven mechanically steerable Bi-Xenon's and switchable matrix LED's in identical Mercedes Classes. Steerable Bi-Xenon's with their big optically tuned German lenses can cover so much more wide area while reaching further into the night. Upgrading to 75 Watt bulbs makes it no contest: Upgraded Xenon performance is still superior to new LED's. Xenon's offer that distinct advantage of huge aftermarket improvement.

Thanks for a great summary! Possibly you are right but...the safety agencies tests do not show any obvious supremacy of Mercedes company. I want to see the numbers/charts/comparative analysis...not just wishful thinking that something made by a Germany brand must be the best. History says it is not always the case (also with Mercedes ...) I am an engineer so give me data :) Still, it is great to argue in a a constructive way!

Forgot to add...the Xenons in my Volvo are really good...so good that I do not miss LEDs. If Merc made it even better .....great for the owners. But the "better"is these days marginal, in many cases. The "good" is good enough! Hope you agree. Well, at least this great comparative presentation proved that the Xenons are not that far away yet and still alive and competing.

@@myslecinaczej8674 Hey I can respect that. I'm a driver so ultimately the visual results on the road will direct my judgement. Numbers, graphs even projections on walls are but a measurement in time and space. The result on a standardized given road is the deciding factor for me. Mercedes development of mechanically steered headlights with the intelligence to also adjust rake and pitch according to traffic and terrain conditions deserves recognition for advancing automotive illumination technology. Terrific because they're so upgradable when better Xenon bulbs and ballasts come out. I particularly like the wider ranging Kelvin temperatures available with Xenon's vs. LED's

If you live in country with lots of fog, stick with halogen. Say low beam halogen, main hid. Also hid with shutter gives a sharp cutoff, which halogen more blends, not so harsh on the eyes.

LED has the worst, most shocking/surprising in a bad way cutoff between low and high beams. I grew up around halogen everything and it's most friendly to our eyes, and there's a reason LED never is. Being alarmed while on the road only because an oncoming car turned off their high beams is not enjoyable for the driving experience and comfort.
