This was one of my first videos watching when I came to RU-vid years ago. It was so fucking awesome, just as his work on Red Vs Blue and RWBY were. He was a great person, and will live on in our hearts
Wow 90% of the RU-vid community knew Monty. Its good to know that his legacy will pass and that his creativity will shine despite his unfortunate demise. Everyone here enjoyed the videos and his animation and he was a great guy to be around. I didn't know him personally, but being a huge fan of his I literally felt tears in my eyes when I first saw the reddit post saying he was dead. We all will miss him Alan. RIP Monty
I feel terrible!! In the very end, the screen shows Monty Oum on his computer and PRETENDING to be dead in which a long time ago, I laughed, but now I just want to sit in the corner and think that I laughed at his fake death and mourned at his real death
I remember watching this thousands of times as a kid thinking this was an actual halo cut scene from halo 2 and I would be replaying all the missions to try to find this lol
Someone else once said in a RU-vid comment "RWBY may be Monty's masterpiece, but Haloid will be his legacy." I couldn't agree more. Monty inspired a whole generation of people, still inspires animators even though he's no longer with us, and will continue to do do fo r.c as long as we remember him and his work. His animations were like an art form rather than something cinematic. I hope to emulate his style while I grow as a 3D animator. His name will never be forgotten. Thank you Monty for inspiring us all.
I think it’s the other way around. RWBY is his legacy because it’s what he’ll be remembered for. Most people who know or remember Haloid don’t know or care about who created it. Hell, most people who have heard of Monty don’t even know about it. Haloid is much more niche; but it’s a masterpiece in the category of “early piece made by a hungry bright eyed young creator”. Similar to how Duel is a minor Spielberg work, but it’s a small masterpiece in its own way.
Reading all the most recent comments brought legitimate tears to my eyes at how many people you impacted... Monty, you will be missed by many. My respects. RIP.
The part where Sam throws the Jackal shields around the battlefield and Chief uses them as paddles for his high caliber ping pong bullet will remain the greatest thing ever animated.
Can we just appreciate that Monty's added feature of Samus having rocket boots became a LITERAL thing for her in Smash Bros. You can't deny that his video inspired that.
I remember watching this when I was, like, 12. The rocket boots thing never clicked for me. I NEVER considered this was the first time Samus was shown with them. oh my, Monty inspired Smash. rip legend.
Hiro Murdoch+ i never saw the very end before... to think what happend later. i think he will be remembered. many in the industry and anime fandom will never forget.
@@gfyGoogle ahh so he is an old time creator actually having some talents.....i watched some of his videos and they were fun to watch.....wonder how i missed this og youtuber for all these years. And he died? How? anyone knows?
Wow.. Oum had just gotten sick when I liked this and left the comment... I can't believe he passed. Definitely one of the OG gaming video guys and I have infinite respect for Monty Oum. The internet would not be the same place if it weren't for his work.
@@callumkristofer7793 I know MC is a guy. I did some digging here, and this IS NOT Master Chief. This is actually supposed to be Nicole 458 I believe. A canonized Spartan who last appeared as a guest star in dead or alive 4 as a guest character.
CptVonSwaggerNaut that may be in your eyes but i've sunk far too deep into my obsession with it to be convinced that it's anything short of perfection ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Watching the Monty oum fights, I was really pissed. His animation was so good and I wanted to see what more he could do, but he was taken from us too soon. At least he has inspired us all, and I hope one day to be as good as him. Thanks for being awesome Monty. Torrian is doing a good job keeping animation awesome
2020 Quarantine: The world needs a smile, so I looked to the past for inspiration. A brilliant yet dated animation better than most modern fights in fiction. Maybe, somethings are best kept the way they are.
Monty Oum will be missed. All of his works till his passing were great. His work with rooster teeth was nothing but amazing. His attitude toward his passion and work made it seem he knew his time was limited.
Uhh can you please not say the Q word, that word makes me depressed and you literally had no reason to say it in this comment. This comment would' ve still been a perfectly normal comment without that horrible word
Even if the models are outdated, this is still one of the coolest animations I've seen even in 2022. The fact that this was 2007 is still fantastic. RIP Monty and your talents and life are never forgotten 🙏
I saw this when it came out but completely disregarded who made it. It wasn't until Monty passed away I found out he made this. GJ, Monty. See You Space Cowboy
Today we remember one of the most brilliant and creative people the world has ever known. Monty was more than an animator, more than the mind behind RvB animation and RWBY, he helped encourage creativity throughout the rooster teeth community. He has touched more lives than one can count. Please I urge you, today, do something creative, do something kind, and just please be decent people "I tend to get a lot of response from people who are also not sure what they're meant to become, a lot of them, also with the same bright imaginations, and with the way the world is, the hardships of what it means to grow up tends to marginalize who you are, and I'd hate for that to happen to anyone because, Because, you know, the future is in creativity, and that's not something you can just manufacture" -Monty Oum 1981-2015
that quote is the most perfect one i have ever heard with all my to say delusion about well the point he sounds like the number one man i would like to go meet
Monsieurr Claw If not one of the most brilliant, then one of the most hard working and dedicated people. Monty put work over sleep, food, and everything else he cared about.
Funnily enough I've left a comment on this video every 5 years since 2011. So it's time for another I guess. Rewatching this really hits the feels. Still miss Monty everyday. Would have liked to see what else he would have created. Proud of all the animators who carry the torch in his honor. ^_^
Yeah, although i didn't really care about RWBY (wasn't my type of show), i loved this video when i was a kid and he was a really good action animator who inspired me a lot (The scenes he made for Red vs Blue are also very good) R.I.P
"Why do the most talented, passionate, caring people always die young? When you pick flowers, which ones do you pick first? The most beautiful ones." R.I.P Monty Oum. You will be missed.
The RWBY Yang Shotgun Gauntlets. When Master Chief was swinging around that shotgun while also doing fighting moves. The world may never know how RWBY’s seasons 3-7 and beyond would have been like, if he was still alive.
lazychino Yeah... or at least according to Bungie she is, but they aren't running the show anymore and she hasn't been featured in any of the _Halo_ games.
HOW IS SOMETHING FROM ALMOST 8 YEARS AGO, BETTER THAN WHAT DEATH BATTLE COULD PUT OUT?!?! A whole team doing research, animating, scripting, VS. ONE F*CKING GUY. AND THAT ONE F*CKING GUY DID IT BETTER! R.I.P Monty, you rekt death battle.
First time I watched this video I was ten years old; almost eight years ago (8 yrs in April), a few days after it came out. Loved Monty's work, and this became my favourite video not only of his but one of my favourites in general... and then he joined RT to be greater. And now he's gone. Just like that. First Colin Wyckoff (Kitty0706) and now Monty... God dammit. Rest in Peace.
I remember seeing Haloid and I was 7 years old. When I saw it I was like "Holy Crap, this is AWESOME!" And loved it. I also saw a bit of his other work, but not completely. Then I saw that RWBY was announced. "YO! It's the Haloid Guy!" And watched both seasons. Then he was on the podcasts and that one stream where they played fitness games. Now he's gone like that.
SikantoCentral I didn't even know it was Monty who made this video. I mean, I never paid attention to the name of the creator, and it wasn't until a year after Monty was hired by RT (2011, I believe) when I realised HE was the MONTY OUM who made the famous Haloid video in which my absolute childhood crush Master Chief was a freaking girl. I remember I was amazed. I truly feel for his friends and family... They're the ones left genuinely suffering.
This is a sad reminder of, what was that saying? You never knew you had something until it's truly gone? or something like that. I watched Team Fabulous 2 and it was hilarious but I never payed attention to who made the video. Same thing with this until I saw the RWBY trailer and remembered seeing that name somewhere before. I guess in a way it's also a reminder to check who made an awesome video or thing because you'll never know if he/she'll be gone the next day
supernaturalnoscope True. Colin's death shocked me harder, though, because I loved the guy and he's the reason (along with DasBoSchitt) I bought G-Mod to create my own stories. I, for some reason, even started to watch his videos a lot around January 20th, had a small marathon until January 25th. Then on January 26th at about 4am I read the news he died. Now Monty, all the sudden too? It's just crappy.
Monty said gay rights...I’m glad I was able to witness part of his legacy today. I haven’t known of him until very recently, but I’m sad he was taken from us so soon. I’m glad he was able to create such splendid artwork during the time he was here.
Elder Maxson Rooster Teeth? Well, Monty did work for them. Monty was the lead director and creator of RWBY. Though most of the series were written by other people, it was his idea, and he had already planned 9 seasons before he died. As for Red vs Blue... Monty only worked from season 8 and upward till he died.
I remember seeing this the month it was posted. Graphically, for its time; it was really good, I showed so many of my friends. I couldn't believe how it was choreographed. Finding out the guy that made it passed, is really sad news. But this video will live on as a testament to his skills and talent. This art is what made the halo community what it was. RIP Monty
You can see the Matrix influences in this lol you can tell Monty was a fan. He used some soundtrack from the second film in the first Dead Fantasy episode.
He got his influences from all over. You can see specific scenes from movies scattered throughout, even. For example in Dead Fantasy 2, when Tifa drinks the potions, it's straight up Jackie Chan from Legend of Drunken Master 2
This is animated quite well, of course it doesn't look as good as it did when I first watched it, but I can say that this is animated better than Death Battle.
Okay for the sake of your argument, let's use Death Battle 4 years ago. And let's use the 3D ones for comparison as 2D Sprites aren't really a fit. Now, not to say this isn't an amazing animation, it is. But be honest with yourself. This is a 2007 Animation and it shows. Are you really gonna say this is better than Megazord vs Voltron, which came out 4 years ago when you made this comment. Or hell even going back Iron man vs Lex Luthor. Are you REALLY about to say that.
Samus Aran > Master Chief All video game opinions aside, from an objective standpoint Samus is physically superior, underwent superior training, and has superior armor and weapons. And I'm not just pulling this outta my ass. I read half the Metroid manga and the first Halo novel. Both sucked, but they gave insight where the games did not. The only combative thing Chief might be better at than Samus is marksmanship. But, hell, since Samus has bird DNA, her eyesight is probably akin to a super-hawk, so she'd probably win that, too.
***** The unfortunate reality for this fight though is that really Chief would stand zero chance against Samus. If we assume both are fully prepared and powered as use info straight from the games, Samus has 99 energy +15 reserves versus Chief's single bar of shields. Even these don't equate properly: Chief can be killed by a single missile in Halo whereas Samus takes around 20 damage from one (MP2 multiplayer). She can store 250 of these, all of which lock on. Factor in Samus has more equipment, can bring in more versatility through the multiple beams stored in one device, and a comparable if not greater level of agility than Chief and the result is that the fight is so unbalanced that the only way to make it work would be to nerf Samus' equipment extensively. But then the fight is made artificially fair so that makes the principle of comparison in the first place redundant. Bear in mind I've played both series extensively and enjoyed both, this is just the reality of the situation.
***** How does MC have greater durability? Samus can stand in lava indefinitely, and breath in space FOREVER. Sorry if this sounds crazy, but can MC have 10 health bars? Or freeze people? Plus, Samus exterminated an entire race AND blew up their planet.
Can Master Chief jump forever? Can he run at a speed so fast your molecules make solid objects explode? Does MC have a weapon that can blast through ANY surface and could bake you from the inside out? I thought not...
But then you look at the downhill run Osiris did at the start of the game, which is a lot faster than that scene. I think the difference here is that the John V Lock fight was motion captured to have accurate human motions, while the downhill fight was animated by hand because they were doing things that just were not possible for humans to do.
+BowlingGlaceon No it isn't. It shows that 343i don't understand the Covenant for shit. When Vale jumps in the Phantom there are 2 sword Elites standing there and doing nothing. Jerome vs. Brutes & Elites is a far better example.
Basically Master chief was doin his daily bussiness, all of a sudden Samus come's out of knowhere and takes on master chief like a hot bad ass, gets turned on by samus's hot-ness, gets wet or has a boner {Futa} Aliens attack them, they both work together and nuke the place. After that chief gets out of the suit as a chick and become lesbians. Then some dance that makes no sense unless ur using Vr
Man. . . I can just remember it like it was yesterday, just finished halo 2, and was still waiting for halo 3 and the hype was all over my mind, then one of my friends tells me about this guy who did this video, with Master Chief and Samus Aran, just throwing it all at it and here I couldn't believe it until late one night I found the video and watched it. . I was in awe and grew this love for this man's work. Jump some years later, I meet him at one of the cons, the guy was a great, calming, really full of life and I couldn't believe how much his work has changed and how people just enjoy crazy fighting mashups like this. Thank you, Monty Oum. . you shall be missed by your fans, love ones and family.
Oh definitely, looks a lot like Nora's style when she is fighting Weiss in the food-hall. My first thought (after rewatching, since last time I watched it was years ago) I actually thought it was the basis of Agent Carolina fighting the 100-Tex army. Come to think of it, a LOT of the moves used in this are repeated throughout both Red vs Blue and RWBY.
Bub Bub Neither were the episodes of RVB that Monty animated. This video was created a while before Monty even got into contact with Roosterteeth. What I'm saying is that he repeated a lot of stunts from THIS video into his newer animations.
I used to watch this all the way back in '07 / '08 I never would have thought the person that made this was the individual that went on to create RWBY. Wild world we live in.
Imagine the action scene with today's graphics. That would be the only thing that could make this video better. The choreography is amazing, and the intensity is so great. I have loved this video since it first came out, and it is still amazing today!
Might I suggest watching Red vs Blue or RWBY? Monty Oum, the guy who made this, was hired by Roosterteeth years ago to do their animating. It isn't just the graphics that have been bumped up either, Monty's sequences are much better than they used to be and seem to take physics a lot more seriously, so its more realistic too.
"One of life's great mysteries isn't it? Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence? Or is there really a God, watching everything. You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don't know man, but it keeps me up at night."
cause its in New Mombasa at the time when the Covenant were invading Earth, there were no other Spartans on active duty on Earth during the invasion they were all scattered either out fighting on small colonies or on Onyx fighting both the Covenant and the Forerunner Sentinels
Hacksaw606 Maybe he was letting us know. Monty was actually a robot and he knew his programming would fail after 33 years of use. You can only hold off rampancy so long.
Yes it is. Burnie Burns hired him a short while after because he was that impressed with the animations. If I remember correctly, he said something like "I remember watching this video, the graphics and the sounds weren't that great but the animation just blew me away". Since then, Monty has been coming to the studio everyday and made the best damn animations any Halo fan has ever seen.
This video is amazing and badass..................*Spoiler Alert - and of course ruined by sexist comments bitching about Master Chief being a girl. Ah damn, people are stupid.
I'd say it is most sad that he did not get to finish his creations, and he probably had so many more ideas and projects in the future days that are no more. R.I.P. - Mounty Oum - 1981-2015 I really do hope that his family will recover from this deeply terrible loss.
115_zombie_slayer It's not that Halo 4 itself is too smooth in terms of graphics. making any sort of animation against their map backgrounds make the animation look raw and stale. In the final episode they create their own environment and the animation looks really good against that.
"The brightest sparks always burn out the fastest..." Rest in Peace Monty, this was the first time I watched this today and that picture at the end of you passed out made me sad because now you will be in eternal sleep. You deserve the rest man, thank you for everything.
Guys, the reason why Chief is a girl in this is the same reason you'll never see a male character do well against any female character in any forms of entertainment...Society has this whole idea that if a man and a woman fight, the woman must kick his ass by default, so I kind of expected it to be a woman, because today I don't expect anyone to make a fight scene where it "ISN'T predictable in showing a man character winning against a woman one. Which is why it makes you assume it is a "man" until the end, so that it seems like a woman is beating the man easily. It's something that pisses me off colossally, because it just makes every fight between a man and a woman in TV predictable, hence not worth watching. It's why I am reluctant to watching the next 300 film, I know for a fact that the woman character will kick the main character's ass, or be the primary reason of how the main villain is beaten, and honestly, I don't watch predictable films.
LOL This was animated by Monty Oum. Do you even know who he is? If he's animating, it's sure that the most badass of characters are female. Look at Red vs Blue, or RWBY. Both animated by Monty with help from others.
