I would be interested in seeing a build vid for adding the diodes to the power cables.

It really is a neat little radio. I wish they would use an encoder for the VFO instead of push buttons. That's a deal breaker for me. I have a Sony receiver that uses buttons for changing the frequency, I hate it. They did have a model that used an encoder but they discontinued it a few years ago. What a loss! Thanks for posting the very informative video. Well done. Barry, KU3X/QRP

Awesome video Kyle. Just ordered myself one of these radios. With the diode instal, aren’t the diodes, directional? It’s been awhile since I played with diodes.
@AA0Z
@AA0Z 3 года назад
Correct. Diodes are directional

Kyle, I just ordered the same rig you have. This will be my 1st MTR. What battery do you use when you're in the field? I noticed you are using a 9 V for the demo how long will it last? Also what type of key are you using? I'm looking for a good key that I can take in the field and one that will survive being portable all the time. Tnx Rich. KG5IF
@AA0Z
@AA0Z 2 года назад
Hey Rich. I've only used a 9V battery on a couple of activations for less than a hour and replaced the battery each time, so I'm not really sure on how long a 9V will last. I typically use a 3Ahr Bioeno and made a power pole to power pole adapter with a diode in line to bring the voltage down to around 11.5 volts.

Nice review. only downside to the mountain topper is it isn't happy if you go over 12v by even a little

I’m going with a 9v Bioenno 3aH when I receive my MTR4b.

The V2 like this MTR4BV2 can work up to 13.0v fine. I use a LiPo 1300mah with initial chargev12.6v with no problem.

How do you adjust the side tone monitor volume? I know the access port is a rubber stopper on the back of the radio, but when I look in I see no way to adjust it. I really don't want to take the case apart unless I need to change the battery.
@AA0Z
@AA0Z Год назад
Sidetone monitor is fixed on my unit, I can't adjust it. I know in V2 they had a monitor up/down setting, but I don't know if that was for sidetone or general volume coming in.

@@AA0Z My version is the V2, it has a red body. Thanks :) I guess I'll have to open up the unit and look. I'm guessing it's a dip switch of some sort.

dot dash memory?
@bluegrassdan
@bluegrassdan 3 года назад
@@AA0Z Dot Dash memory. When you hold the dash paddle and tap the dot and then release the dash, the character formed will be a K. Without dot dash memory you would get T maybe N but not K.

@AA0Z 3 года назад
Sorry, I didn't show that screen. When your in straight key mode, you hold down the dit key and it displays the SWR and power out on the lower line of the screen. Just says SWR 1.0 PWR 4.0W that's all it says. There is no meter or bar graph.
