Wow Kevin, that 7300 really is a sweet radio - signals going from completely useless to weak but readable. Thank you again for another great demo vid. 73 John

This is an awesome video Kevin, thank you! I've played with the notch filter on my TS-590S, but having the spectrum display and seeing it work was just way more useful for making a mental picture of how it works. Well done!

Great video as always. I think the 7300 is such a popular /widely used radio that the instruction you offer on its use will be appreciated and used to good effect by a wide audience,

Thank you for another great video! I recently bought an IC 7100 and after your video I was able to figure how to use the notch filter on it! One of these days I hope to upgrade to a 7300. Thanks again! Love your videos!

Kevin, I don’t believe you have done a video yet, of remote operation. Many people now have the Ic 7300, which is capable of remote operation using the RSBA1, version two, software. Moreover, hams are finding it difficult to install and use this software for remote operation. Part of the difficulty is configuring the software or using router instructions. - And also routers that go off while the person is out of town, on remote location.Several problems are included in this subject, and I wish you would explore them because I think a lot of your readers would be interested.
@loughkb
@loughkb 5 лет назад
I would be willing to do so, except that I don't run windows. All my machines are linux only. I believe that software is windows only. Router issues are common with any kind of remote access stuff. The router is a firewall, protecting you from the constant scanning of black hat hackers looking for machines they can exploit. Ports have to be opened to allow your desired incoming connection through. That's complicated by the multitude of routers and their varying user interfaces. Setup of port forwarding is different for each router brand and sometimes models from the same manufacturer. It would be difficult to cover just a few of them. One could speak to the general concepts and leave it up to the viewer to navigate the maze of configuration menus for their particular router. But not much more could be said.
@boopymd
@boopymd 5 лет назад
@@loughkb general concepts video would be great. I know the success rate of hams using RSBA1 is low and there is a lot of grumbling. You would be doing a service to all those who need to operate remote if you could review that software, plus general concepts.

Yo Kevin!: ANOTHER GREAT video! I have an IC-735 with a notch filter, but has pass band tune control. Is that similar to a wide filter like you demonstrated? Still learning my radio Hi. Look forward to your next video. Got my HF radio back on the air. When's next live chat session? 73's de seeker / Jeff WA7LFP

Hi Kevin, Great video. I love my 7300. What causes the carrier wave interference?
@loughkb

Solar charge controller, switching power supplies, TV sets, just about any electronic device can potentially generate signals.

DX Engineering sells copper plates to place under the radio. The radio is grounded to the plate and the plate connects to the bus ground. Think this is worth it for noise reduction?
@loughkb
@loughkb 5 лет назад
I don't think it would make any difference as far as noise is concerned. Noise generally comes in via the antenna primarily, maybe a bit on the power line. It would help protect the radio from static discharge though.

How does one build a notch filter ?
@johnkershaw9575

I second remote operation video. I use HRD but cannot get remote operation to work.
@loughkb
@loughkb 5 лет назад
Unfortunately, HRD and Icoms remote software are windows only. All my stuff runs linux. Port forwarding through the router seems to be the biggest problem people face. The concept is simple, but routers all have different interfaces and it's often hard to find the correct menus within to set up port forwarding.

Nothing major really. You have to deal with the weather on a more direct line. That is, it has more of an effect on your day-to-day life.

Sorry to be a pest. I have a delta loop antenna classic triangle fed from the upper bottom left side. Works great. Receives 80m crystal clear. Always lots of traffic at night. Thinking of an ICOM AH-4 automatic antenna tuner and possibly 450ohm ladder line. Would this get me on 80M or would I have to go with a "random" length at say 111 feet? If 111 feet could it be in a connected in a loop to accommodate my smallish yard? Thanks. Always value your opinion.
@loughkb
@loughkb 5 лет назад
Delta loops are one antenna type I have yet to play with. As far as going as big as you can and using a tuner. Experiment! It only costs time to try it.
