Hamilton make one of the finest watches you can buy, In fact I just purchased the 40MM Chronograph Instamatic 60 hour power reserve model that was reintroduced in 2018. It is a H38416711 with a H31 movement. I have to admit it is the most expensive I have ever paid for a watch, "no regrets". I recently subscribed to your channel and love the variety of content, and like you I have a fascination that has prompted me to collect several over the years.
Great review. The proportions are perfect. This has been on my wishlist for a while but thanks to you it made the short list. Only other watch to beat it is maybe the Khaki Pilot.
Debating between this and the standard Hamilton field watch. Love 'em both. Seems like a minor quibble, but I wish this had the red-tipped second hand. I just think it's a beautiful little feature on the standard field watch that really makes the dial pop.
I own the Champaign dialed version, and it is indeed excellent. I put mine on a bund, and it suits it brilliantly. It's a great movement, but I would have kept the bph at 28,800 and lived with the 38 hours power reserve. The day date is a bit Marmite, but I love it. Glad you are getting the timegrapher, all enthusiasts should have one. You are right, the lume isn't great, but I don't own any field watches that have a great lume. Come to think of it, Pilot watches either.
It's a great package, and good value. I can handle having 12 missing, but I just can't get around the way 11 and 1 have been ruined by the day window. Nice straps at the beginning 😎
Hamilton knock it out of the park. Got the steel bracelet version on my hit list this year. There really is not better watch for price. Top brand and makes other top brands look in shame. I really wish i got this watch before some of my others am still paying for!
I'm considering a Khaki field mechanical myself but have heard about a few problems with the H50 movement, so I'm searching for an ETA powered version.
Hello, I am hesitating between buying this watch or the Seiko Alpinist. I really like both of them and would like to buy my first good quality watch. What would be your choice? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance. I am also afraid of scratches from wear on the bezel, but both watches come with a polished bezel and I think that will be the same for both, isn't it? Regards
Thats a great pair of watches to choose between! I would say both are fabulous watches, and both have many merits. The hamilton is a good value swiss alternative, and the alpinist sarb017 is the Japanese classic with beautiful details. As an everyday watch, the Hamilton is just that bit more appropriate for more occasions, but is slightly blander compared to the seiko. The seiko holds its value better too at the moment. Just go with the one that just edges it on desirability for you. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
Oh yes, a WMWW review on a military style watch. Very nice. I mean, I hate field watches and pilot watches, but it's fun to see someone who actually likes these things, so just in case I get a brain tumour or go blind or something and my tastes change, I know what to buy. I've got 3 Hammy's and love this one, but my favourite is probably the hand wind mechanical. The perfect field watch for me, and an absolute pleasure to wind. Butter smooth.

Thanks for the review. I do not like it when they cut off numerals to fit the complications. To me it is designed poorly. At that price, and especially as a tool watch, lume is a failure. Others do this watch better and cheaper with an NH35/36. My main issue is the missing parts of the numerals. Size is bang on.
@michaelriera6277 57 seconds ago Bought mine several years ago for $340 from Jomashop. It’s gotten lots of use and the polished bezel is all scuffed and dinged, but I love this watch. I’ve taken it swimming , hiking, vacations, daily work, evening out…it goes with everything, everywhere. I generally find field watches boring so really appreciate the day-date complication. This is a watch for life.
