I was an 11 year old English lad who fished loch Tay for weeks holiday in the 80s. And every morning a loan bagpiper use to play flower of Scotland and amazing grace out on a jetty every morning. Absolutely epic and every time I hear bagpipes it takes me back to being 11 on them misty murky mornings epic👍
Me too, and the pipes send shivers down my spine, they're magnificent. I know all the words to Flower of Scotland. Ask me to sing more than a couple of lines of GSTQ and I'd be a teense flummoxed!
@@kathrynp8080 I know every bloody verse and gstq is one bloody awful dirge...Love the Irish and Welsh Anthems...Parcel o Rogues should be Scotland's Anthem by Luke Kelly...google that.
@@klimeyjohnston8452 I love Luke, but he gets the words wrong in the version I've seen. I think it was just before he was diagnosed, poor man, which would explain quite a bit
@@Cruithneach Parcel o Rogues written by Burns in lowland Scots dialect and many Scottish singers dont quite get it spot on either but what a great version nonetheless by the legendary Luke Kelly.
I am Irish and went to Murrayfield to see Scotland take on All Black's a few years ago, always wanted to see the Haka live but the thing I remember most was the singing of Flower of Scotland, absolutely amazing experience , take a bow Scotland!
@@mattimeo117 Indeed it was. I just love the second verse as it is sung unaccompanied (at Murrayfield). The atmosphere is just stunning. We were within a cat's whisker of sending the All Blacks "homewards, tae think again"
As a proud American with Scottish heritage, all I can say is that Scotland must truly be the best nation in the world to have such proud people belt out their beautiful anthem with such vigor. Long live Scotland 🏴
No matter where in the world you are when flower of Scotland plays your chest puffs out that little bit more with sheer pride ours & the Welsh national anthem must be the top 2 in the world bar none
My great grandparents were from Stonehaven. My grandparents were Glaswegians. My dad was Scottish by birth. I was born in the States, and I love this song, and will always say Alba gu Bràth!
Aye! It's rousing! ... but as Sir Big Yin himself once said... the 'british' anthem God save the Queen is boring and drab.... theme from the archers would definitely be better! Lol
Absolutely overwhelming emotion when I hear that anthem, because it expresses the freedom fight and the dignity of indepebdent nations. Such things that are precious to me being a latin american.
I'm English too, and love the Scottish anthem. I've got it as my ring tone on my phone. Many are suprised with "Oh are you Scottish " lol I'm as Yorkshire as they come !
Am 100% ah wee Scots lassie, Born in Glesgia the gorbals, but ah live here in Birmingham, ah cannie thank yae auw enuf fir yer compliments oan oor bagpipes and the Scottish crowd singing their hearts oot tae everybody, Thank all of yae fir loving it auw the exact same as me, BLESS YAE AUW MILLIONS 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💙
I am an American; however I love to watch the Commonwealth Games when they are shown here in the USA. Marvelous athletes from all the Commonwealth countries.
I'm proud that this country gave Paralympic sport to the world, and I'm proud that we support it so strongly. It's a huge step towards inclusiveness, and is helping change the image of disability around the world...
I may be American, but I am glad to be part Scottish. Brings tears to my eyes hearing the national anthem being played by bagpipes and being sung by the great people of Scotland.
James Wilson Yes your right. Then you and Sturgeon's gullible fools will dance to Brussels tune, Scotland will be told what it has to do. Even to the point where Scotland will have elements of a foreign EU army stationed on its soil. That is if we are stupid enough to leave the UK.
+Natalie ナタリー Correction, Doric is our main way of speaking. It is more of a dialect but it is spoken by all Scotts so rightfully in it's own perspective it is a language. So if you think about it, even though we write in English, we do not speak English as we have our own way of speaking, which is called Scotts.
Whenever I watch the Rugby, and I hear the Scots,Welsh and Irish anthems being played it always makes the Hair on the back.of my Neck stand up(they''re all fantastic)And then u have listen to "God save the Queen" and the less said about that the better! .
I'm English but I can say one thing about the scots they have an anthem that shows passion and raises the crowd, not to mention one of the best instruments in the world 'The bag pipes' - Us English have to suffer an Anthem that isn't English as its the British National Anthem. I'd feel more passionate if we sand the real English Anthem 'Land of hope and glory' :0)
+Susan Littlejohn Exactly! In one line it literally says "Rebellious Scots to crush" how fucking low can you get making us sing it, especially when it's a Scottish athlete at say, the olympics. It's embarrassing.
It is the best sporting anthem By far from another English man .............stirring stuff I love the part where.the music Fades but the singing continues
Proud to be Scottish!!!! Best anthem in the world!!! Good thing about being Scottish everyone sticks together through thick and thin. Get rid of the coronavirus!!!!!!! 😍
Love that they even added the "against who" bit before king Edward's army 3:00 ... like kids add in "like a light bulb" when signing Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, just pure Scottish!
+Sean Dundee (SeanDundee02) there's no official lyric but many people say 'who' and after proud Edwards army many also add 'Wankers! '
What is always cut from these videos is the second part! Anthem: "Proud Edward's army" Crowd: "Wankers!" Anthem: "That sent him homeward, tae think again...."
Or in DC-MD-VA where the Draw out the Ohhhhhh in “Oh Say does that Star Spangled”........ I grew up in NY-PA and never heard that at sporting events until I moved down here.
Are you living in the clouds fresh air in old Europe is it This would be the Europe were You have to applie for Membership a Europe that's Parliament is based in Brussels and Funded from Frankfurt were the true power lies in Berlin and you have little say on air quality as that's decided by the council of ministers Wake up small the air its full of the vile odder of lies and make believe of the yes campaign people who don't even know what money they would be using
As a proud Englishman, I just wish that we had an anthem like this... this has to be the best ever, the pride it gives you Scots when singing it is unbelievable.. All we have is that poxy crap " God save the queen " one....its about time we had our own independent identity....
Vote YES! Freedom after all! 2.000 years waiting for total FREEDOM! We can still rise now and be the nation again! O Flower of Scotland, When will we see Your like again That fought and died for Your wee bit hill and glen. And stood against him, Proud Edward's army, And sent him homeward To think again. Those days are past now And in the past They must remain But we can still rise now And be the nation again! That stood against him Proud Edward's army And sent him homeward To think again!
It's a good job you didn't, or your country would currently be a banana republic: the piss-take of the entire world. How's that oil-based economy doing for you now? lol.
Daniel Powell Oil based economy? Oil revenues would have only made up 15% of an independent Scotland's economy. Oil revenues make up 30% of Norway's economy, and yet somehow it's still vastly wealthier than the UK. It's almost as if every economic decision the UK makes is wrong.
