Hampton Bay St. Claire 52" ceiling fan in white/polished brass. One of Hampton Bay's better works for its day, in regards to both quality and execution of design authenticity. It's a good Fern Leaf/Victorian-based knockoff; decent quality and detail of cast components and a nice chunky appearance for a home center fan of the period. Having worked with more and more nice quality newer fans over the years, I will say it feels somewhat underpowered at high speed, but it's not a bad performer for what it is by any means. Really a pretty quiet performer. It doesn't match up to a good showroom fan in any area for me, but it executes decently across all the board and doesn't fully lack anywhere. Mine isn't in prime physical condition, a little beat up here and there with some finish issues. A couple of warped blades. Nothing over the top detrimental, but far from mint.

Definitely want to find one of these in white and brass. I feel they look best in that finish but that’s just me.

If I ended up finding one of these complete, I will put it in my friend's house.

I have one of these that came with my house. Red and white blades, but all the brass parts were painted white. I'm not a fan of it, would you say still keep it?
@vfandm
@vfandm 3 года назад
🤷‍♂️ If you don't like it I don't see a reason to keep it. They're okay fans, but nothing of great value or significance. Especially if it's been painted.

Okay, thanks. Yep, it was polished brass and white, but the previous owners painted it completely white. Minus the blades. Thank you! 😀

How do the holes line up? Is it similar to Casablanca and Craftmade or like a late 90s Encon

It's like Craftmade.

All typical fern leaf vents, as in the antique Emerson, then repopularized by the Casablanca Victorian.

Is there a way to fix blade warpage? I picked up a 40 inch Craftmade Decorative and it has a badly warped blade causing it to wobble when I use all 5 of its blades
@vfandm
@vfandm 4 года назад
Not really. People have said all kinds of different stuff about it over the years, I've never had any success. I had a Halogen Star blade sitting under weight for years, even now the set is stored on the bottom of the pile, but as soon as the weight is taken off it springs back. Realistically it could be done, but I think you'd need a controlled environment where humidity can be strategically increased to allow the wood to relax, then set in the desired position, and then lower the humidity and dry it all out again. A lengthy process that you could never just do at home. I will say, something like MDF could potentially be easier to correct with weight than an actual laminated plywood or other such solid wood blade. You wouldn't want to expose MDF to nearly as much moisture, either.

How much would a full one of these go for today in good condition?
@vfandm
@vfandm Год назад
Not a lot. Maybe up to $50 or so if someone is actively searching and desperate to find it immediately. Otherwise like $20 max in most scenarios, I'd think.

8:56 this fan makes the same start up noise as a CEI or a CEI made ceiling fan does.

Are those the original blades? I do not remember that Hampton Bay model having points at the end of the blades.

They're what was on it when I picked it up fully assembled in the thrift store 10 years ago, that's all I know. I've never really taken note before, but you're right. There don't seem to be many with pointed tips. IDK if that was an earlier thing or what, like I said I've never bothered to pay attention.

Why did these get discontinued
@vfandm
@vfandm 4 года назад
Same reason any product gets discontinued: people quit buying it. Decor tastes shifted, newer desirable designs came out, this design is arguably dated in terms of what became popular.

Why don't you ever mention the year of manufacture or what era the fan is from in your videos?
@vfandm

Those specifics don't tend to interest me, I guess. And this is not to say you're coming at me in any way, but as I've said to a lot of people in the past who didn't like a certain way I do things, I'm selfishly here for me and what I like. This content is mostly consumed by people who have a pretty good idea of general ceiling fan timelines, I don't see a need to say "this fan was from the mid 1970s" or "this fan was made in the late 1990s" because 99% of people know that. As far as specific dates and stuff, I know a lot of people show interest in that, but I don't always have that info for every fan and also literally don't care myself. Could care less what number a Casablanca fan was off the assembly line or during which quarter of 1997 a Hunter fan was made. It's extra stuff I'd have to keep track of when it's of no personal interest to me. 🤷‍♂️
