Hunter Original 52" ceiling fan in brushed nickel. This fan recently came down off of the display (you'll see vlog updates eventually), so again it's best timing to get this video out of the way before going into storage. This is and always will be among my top favorites of fans I own. Production didn't last long, so they're not the easiest to find, and I think this finish in particular really spoke to the evolution of the Original in the early 2000s. It's in pretty good shape aside from some finish issues with the blades and some scratches here and there, but I'd still love to find one truly new in box at some point just to have a near-perfect example. Evidently the switch cap was also homemade to match as closely as possible, so again it's not quite perfect. Unfortunately this is one of my loudest Originals as far as hum is concerned. I've tried adjusting the stator a bit without taking the whole thing apart, since misalignment can be a contributor to excessive motor noise, but I haven't resolved anything with that so far. I've kind of just let it be for now, because at some point I need to do an entire disassembly and cleaning, as there's a slight rough spot in the rotation. Not sure if it's a bearing issue itself, or just something obstructing inside the oil cup. Nothing's been a big priority because the fan doesn't get much run time, it runs ok basically just for the display videos I've done the last couple years, and has not presented any compounding issues that I was worried about. But I figure I'll do an entire service at whatever point I have some time, rather than try to do one or two non-critical things at a time.

I have the same type of Hunter Original when they were still made in the USA. Twenty years and three houses later; and still runs like new.

I truly hope that hunter sells these in this finish again. Now would be the best time to do so as many crave for older looking fans with a modern touch to them.

Thanks for making this remake. Also i had no idea these were so rare. Is this more or less rare than the antique brass original.

Hi I have a question. Had you thought of getting a camera that can record 60 frames per second? A lot of other fan collectors including me upgraded to 60 frames per second, though RU-vid only plays them at 720p or higher.
@vfandm
@vfandm 4 года назад
My new one does 60fps. It's what I've been recording at, but iMovie typically doesn't like to export them as such with the other graphics contained in them. It's getting to the point where I need to upgrade editing software to continue elevating the quality, but as always, it's been cost-prohibitive.

Cole, are those blades Maple? i really like that combination together its really pretty!
@vfandm
@vfandm 4 года назад
I think so? They're kind of a unique tone, I don't remember what Hunter classified them as offhand. They perfected the blade finish pairings for this model, it's quintessentially early-2000s.

Vintage fans & more.. which in your honest opinion moves more air the 4 blade combo or the 5?
@vfandm
@vfandm 4 года назад
It is fact that fewer blades technically move more air in any scenario. However, my opinion is that the human body usually can't tell an ounce of difference unless there is a significantly greater weight or drag difference by removing a blade. Example of weight: Casablanca BXL blades, which create a 72" span on a motor that would normally drive a typical 42"-50" span. You literally remove pounds by taking a blade off, it's going to spin faster and the airflow change will translate to some extent. Example of drag: usually anything fabric, excessively wide like some "carved" wood blades, or even palm leaf. Casablanca Avalon or Fanimation canvas blades are great examples. Removing a blade drastically reduces the drag on the motor, so it can rotate faster and get a leg up with RPMs. Normal wood blades in the typical 42"-56" spans are not going to show major difference in any department. They don't weigh all that much, and don't cause the significant drag that even a single, more decorative-material blade like the examples above would. So, in the end my overarching opinion is that the number of blades are mostly for appearance and should only be selected for preferred appearance, not performance. You don't gain anything worthwhile by going with the minimum.

Can u flush mount these bc I want one for my living room but it has a low ceiling so can I flush mount a hunter original
@vfandm
@vfandm 3 года назад
There is no technical flush mount option. Best you can do is get a very short pipe nipple, so that the canopy essentially sits right against the top of the motor. There's a specific length that people have gotten for this purpose, but I forget what it is. If the ceiling is significantly lower than 8' I wouldn't do an Original, they already hang low as it is.

You know I really love that fan. I have seen one of the brown finish at My elementary school. It sure is nice to have fans around. So, any more ideas of your display? I know some fans on your display that are due for change like the Northwind, or the Orchid, or the Regency model next to the Orchid. Or even the 19th centary. I think the reason why is you don't have anything in mind to replace them with. I know a fan I would to see on your display when you take down another fan. Do you want to tell you what that fan is? Or do you want to guess (Hint: the fan I'm thinking of has 4 blades, and by Fanimation)? See you on Shop Vlog 20. ;)
@vfandm
@vfandm 4 года назад
The issue with most of the fans around the perimeter is that they need to be pretty specific sizes and profiles. I wouldn't count on them changing very often, if at all, because I have very few other options that will work in their places. I don't even want to swap the 19th with another finish of 19th because all my others are Inteli•Touch and I don't have the wiring in place for that to work well. That said, I do have some changes coming in regards to the perimeter, but most of what's there already will remain or potentially be moved around a bit, and will further limit the options for what I could change out. Those changes are probably going to come more into vlog 21, I'm very backlogged right now.
